Ok @shopafrolic challenge accepted!

I had style analysis with House of Colour and it was quite useful - told me about necklines, leg lengths, jacket lengths etc and really solidified for me why some stuff worked and other stuff really didn't. I am a dramatic classic so quite structured tailor stuff, play with proportions, angular shapes work well on me. I could never do ditsy florals or floaty dresses.
In terms of looking good casual, (and remember we are completely opposite body types) I love tailored shirts and jeans, or thin knitwear with casual trousers. A decent haircut and taking care of skin and basic make up also helps!
I also love a jumpsuit but not sure re: your body shape. this is good.....

nostylenoclue · 11/02/2022 14:16

Thanks shop - I think a style analysis would be a good investment for me. I'll get it booked!

shopafrolic · 11/02/2022 22:39

@nostylenoclue love those two dress links.

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:48

Notstyle I think we may have similar style. I’m nearly 5ft 3 and small on the top (not boobs) bigger on the bottom. I prefer fitted styles and those 2 dresses you linked are very me. If you have smaller boobs then slash/boat/ crew necks are all good and balance out your hips.
Bet you have a little waist......belts are a good thing.
Don’t go too boxy as it will make you look dumpy, this is where belts come in.
I wear all sorts of length skirts but have to be careful with proportions.
Find a good alterations person, when you’re our height you will need hems raised, waists taken in, sleeved shortened and those little details will make clothes look so much better.
I could go on forever ........
Hope this is helpful.
Links coming up...

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:51

this vest arrived and I wore it immediately to work with an Arket pleated black skirt and R and B block heeled knee boots. White long sleeved t shirt under the vest and a wide black belt to since in waist. So warm and cosy.
Also.....

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:53

I’m wearing this one right now with Levi’s 501s and a white long sleeved top underneath (Looking forward a green one like the one in the picture)
Then.....

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:55

this top to go with my pleather khaki skirt

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:56

At last I’ve figured out how to put 2 links on one comment!!!!

DryWhiteagainW · 12/02/2022 19:56

I’m off to warmer climes next week. I’ll probably travel in that outfit with my Air and Grace trainers.......might melt in plastic mind you Grin

shopafrolic · 13/02/2022 14:59

Love those vests @DryWhiteagainW - are they itchy. I like the pic of the model in the grey one and would wear like that but not if scratchy......

shopafrolic · 13/02/2022 15:01

I've just discovered the Flannels Outlet and am browsing happily. Heading out for an early gastro pub dinner with friends in a bit. Hope you're all enjoying the weekend

DryWhiteagainW · 16/02/2022 22:33

Not itchy at all Shop, soft and cosy surprisingly

nostylenoclue · 20/02/2022 14:03

drywhite - happy to learn we have a similar style. Although we're the same height, I can only wish for no boobs! Mine are outsize considering the rest of me. Think a very short Jessica Rabbit :)

Posting today because I have exciting news and wanted to pick collective expertise. I'm being sent to New York by work in 3 weeks (first time I've been). How can I make the most of this from a style and beauty perspective?

nostylenoclue · 20/02/2022 14:21

wondered about this for a summer dress? No experience of the brand but the colour looks quite jewel toned. www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/jasmine-maxi-dress-cranberry

nostylenoclue · 20/02/2022 14:27

I'm also going to be a Mother of the Bride this May :) My daughter's dress has been selected and fitted, it's just stunning, so I need to focus on finding something for me now.

My ideal would be like this outfit from Bombshell www.bombshellhq.com/collections/mother-of-the-bride-dresses/products/emerald-green-silk-confident-3-4-sleeve-dress and www.bombshellhq.com/products/bombshell-occasion-coat-in-green-silk but in a royal purple or violet. I've already contacted them to see if they could make it in a purple but they said no.

Welcome any ideas or suggestions

nostylenoclue · 20/02/2022 14:31

I found this and I love it but think it's too a) evening wear b) bridesmaid vibe? www.carolinecharles.co.uk/product/athena-dress-marine-copy/

Hi @nostylenoclue it’s a great colour for jewel toned and it’s a lovely dress but unless it comes in petite, the cut will be wrong and might drown you.

Love this but I agree with you about the BM vibes!

I love this though I wouldn’t accessorise the dress the way the model has done!Grin

This reminds me of Anna Valentine dresses with coat (a la Camilla) but just looked on their website and can’t find anything decent.

If you do go purple, you might want to consider whether lavender/lilac shade is more Spring and wedding like rather than a deep royal purple. Otherwise it’s slightly too rich for daytime photos.

nostylenoclue · 21/02/2022 08:42

Caroline - good point about the length of the Wolf and Badger dress. Thanks for confirmation that the gorgeous Caroline Charles dress is more bridesmaid than Mother of the Bride :)

Sometimes, I long for a shop that only stocks clothes suitable for a petite hourglass jewelled winter :)

nostylenoclue · 21/02/2022 15:23

Just found this in NancyMac and I loved it so much, I've ordered it (with 10% discount)

maradesbois · 26/02/2022 10:38

Oh I love the florals on that cape @nostylenoclue , did you keep it?

Am yearning for spring and something like this dress. Would wear with trainers.

I’m also short waisted @CarolineBringley and @Stokey. Not sure I dress properly for it though so will be getting some tips from you both next time we can do a mu.

I love that cape @nostylenoclue! I hadn't even head of nanncymac so that was nice to look around. A nice distraction from everything else I have been looking at this morning.

@maradesbois that dress is so you! I hadn't thought about you being short waisted. You're always so beautifully dressed, so I think you're definitely getting it rightSmile

I am now back in the office most of the time and trying to figure out my post pandemic style. Last year, the City had definitely gone super casual for in office days but I definitely see a trend to smart casual rather than home casual. I would love to wear more patterns/florals which is what I started wearing during the pandemic but i prefer dresses for the offices and wonder whether patterns and florals dresses are too much for my petite frame.

maradesbois · 26/02/2022 13:53

Aw thanks @CarolineBringley. I wear high waisted jeans and think they look fine but used to have a really high waisted Vivienne Westwood skirt which my boobs used to practically sit on top of due to lack of torso length! I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t do florals as long as you stick to shapes and styles you are comfortable with. It may not be tailored enough for office but I could absolutely see you in this dress for example as it wouldn’t swamp your petite frame.

Oh my goodness @maradesbois I am in love, thank you! Literally the most perfect dress for me. Flowers I have bought it and will be gutted if it doesn't suit me. You will also had me looking around the NAP website which I haven't done for yonks so that was a nice bit of distraction!

You're spot on, high waisted and short torso are like an evil combo Grin
