To wear with a plain navy dress to an autumn wedding?

Is this fascinator okay

@ohthestruggles I have a very similar hat, same shape, a few less pheasant feathers from the same designer in a burgandy/Oxblood colour which I wore to a winter wedding a few years ago with a navy dress, and I had Oxblood shoes and bag to match, and I felt fabulous!

AlphabetAerobics · 14/10/2021 05:47

Wtf? How townie do you have to be to believe that you have to kill a bird to get a feather?

Never found a peacock feather? Confused

I really, really doubt that people in the business of selling feathers for fashion are on their hands and knees in fields and forests, looking for dropped ones.
ShirleyBadass · 14/10/2021 06:53

OP the dress is fab, the hat is gorgeous, anyone who thinks you can't do country and sexy at the same time obviously has no experience of Holland Cooper.
It looks brilliant and is a combination quite frequently seen down our way in the deep dark roadkill country 😂

ohthestruggles · 14/10/2021 08:09

I will update when said fascinator arrives. 😬

@ShirleyBadass I thought this too, you can be sexy and country.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/10/2021 08:13

I think it's great ,wasn't expecting to like it as I hate fascinators but it's fab!

iamme21 · 14/10/2021 08:18

I have a similar one by the same lady, wore it to a wedding last weekend and received lots of compliments!

On the basis of this thread, I'm delighted to agree that I do indeed have no experience of Holland Cooper, whoever or whatever that might be.Grin

'Country + sexy' really, really isn't my thing. Sounds like it's all the rage in 'roadkill country' though, so I'm sure you will look great in context.

You seem very sure of yourself so I did a quick google and found this:

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2018/may/21/the-ethics-of-wearing-feathers-its-not-just-live-plucking-thats-a-problem

and this:

fashionista.com/2018/05/fashion-feathers-trend-ethical-issues

which both confirmed my suspicion that at best, feathers are a by product of the food industry. I'm not here to tell anyone how they should feel about that but let's not pretend all the feathers on clothes have been discarded by free, happy birds and lovingly rescued off the ground.

QueenBee52 · 14/10/2021 23:42

which both confirmed my suspicion that at best, feathers are a by product of the food industry.

But NOT ALL ☺️

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/10/2021 23:55

I like them both but they don't go together

BoomChicka · 14/10/2021 23:59

I like it, and love that dress! Try them on together and see how you feel post a pic

PowerNap · 15/10/2021 08:59

Why are you pretending that the article backs you up in any way, when it just confirms that @Hoesbeforebroes is correct and you are not?

“Finding and collecting feathers that have fallen from birds in nature sounds nice – but it isn’t a viable business model to supply designers with the volume of feathers they demand,” says Taylor. “Peta has found that whenever parts of animals are used in the fashion industry, corners are cut and abuse is commonplace.”

And even the people in the article defending it, defend it as a byproduct of the food industry. Literally no one is crawling around finding dropped feathers. You are 100% wrong and should have the grace to admit it.

TheUnbearable · 15/10/2021 09:05

Thanks for the memory op it reminds me of swapping a marble at school for a pheasants feather back in about 1974.

You are incorrect ☺️

ducksalive · 15/10/2021 13:37

I think it would go well at a country wedding, also like the dress OP.

DameMaureen · 18/10/2021 09:25

Wow @ohthestruggles Carol it was you all this time 😂

Is this fascinator okay
ohthestruggles · 18/10/2021 09:29

@DameMaureen yes, yes it is.

OP posts:
PowerNap · 18/10/2021 09:37

Fuck me. CV is a nice-looking woman but she looks like it crash-landed and died on her head.

ohthestruggles · 18/10/2021 09:41

Fascinator is en route. Will update in due course. Hopefully not resembling CV.

OP posts:
sunglassesonthetable · 18/10/2021 09:47

I like the fascinator because it's more of a 'hatinator'. Love the brown/blue colour scheme and slightly retro chic vibe. Go for it OP.

Also really like the dress.

Tbh Not a 100% whether they are a really good match for each other though. But would probably have to see all together.

Keep us updated OP.

ohthestruggles · 18/10/2021 09:49

Out of interest, what style of dress would be a better match? If they don't go then the head gear is getting the boot, not my nice dress Grin

How about a roadkill fox to match the crash-landed owl? Grin
