Beauty Advent Calendars 2021 Thread 3 - Decisions Decisions! (Spoilers included)

Peridot1 · 08/10/2021 09:57

Hope it’s ok to have started the thread as we seemed to run out of the last one a bit quickly! And I was really enjoying the thread and reading everyone’s thoughts.

I started reading the first one determined not to buy one this year.

Currently I have the Rituals one and have just ordered the Origins 12 Day one for the 12 days of Christmas!

Let the chat and decisions continue!

Regarding sorting and sorting like others I have my stash sorted into bags of cleansers, toners etc. Now that travel is back on the cards I will use them up that way.

It looks like the first drop of CB AC has sold out. They have said that there will be a second drop. It has been far better managed this year.

I don't want to spoil it for those who want a surprise. Happy to do a separate spoiler thread if anyone wants to see. From the info in the parcel it looks like we'll get free p&p on everything. I thought originally it was just the beauty department. Very handy for those of us miles from London who just want a few Liberty Christmas cards.[/quote]
A spoiler thread might be good for those who are considering signing up? As well as the impatient people like me!

Good news re free P&P as I do like to buy gifts and fabric etc from Liberty and as I live in Scotland visits are few and far between. Do love a Liberty bauble for the Christmas tree.

Jooox · 14/10/2021 12:29

Grin this thread makes me giggle.

Even though I’m not getting Harrods or CB I feel excited and anxious for those of you in the race. Especially the 4am pouncers - I have serious respect for you people.

Peridot1 · 14/10/2021 12:43

I had to go out this morning to avoid “accidentally” buying the CB calendar!

Just had to have a quick look, put one in my basket, quickly deleted it and went to Waitrose!

I think it's good that Cult Beauty are doing more than one drop this year. I always feel bad for people who don't work at a computer and wouldn't have an opportunity to get one.

I wonder whether they have split the drop in two, or whether they have double the amount of calendars? I'm thinking that it might be the latter as it seemed to take the usual amount of time to sell out.

AprilLady · 14/10/2021 13:00

@Jooox 😂. I frequently suffer from insomnia. For once this had an upside; purchased my Harrods calendar at 3am this morning.

@Peridot1, I can identify. I’ve done that on quite a few calendars - sort of reassuring myself that I could have got them if I wanted to.

Agree re. the eBay thing. I noticed that there were a ton of space nk calendars on there listed for hundreds of pounds more than the retail price. This was weeks before it went out of stock too, and sellers were still saying on eBay that it was out of stock! Angry.

I have been known to buy a calendar, take out a few things that I want, and put the rest on eBay, but selling for profit is different. It's a very selfish and greedy thing to do. They are often 'business' sellers too. In the business of ripping people off.

Peridot1 · 14/10/2021 13:31

@AprilLady - glad it’s not just me!

OP posts:
Housewife2010 · 14/10/2021 13:44

Are they ripping people off though? People are choosing to pay the inflated prices. Nobody is making them. I think it's a shame when ACs sell out quickly and it's partly due to sellers whose calendars are destined for eBay. When the ACs have been around for a few days though the buyers have had the opportunity to buy it at source. I'm an eBay seller but the only ACs I've sold are the empty boxes. I do sell the items I won't use. The Charlotte Tilbury in this year's CB is destined for eBay as I already have it.

HowToMurderYourLife · 14/10/2021 13:48

It annoys me that people who genuinely want the calendar can struggle to get as it’s all sold out. I sell the empty boxes and bits I won’t use. I think that’s fine and better than things going used. But selling the whole thing purely to flip it doesn’t sit right with me.

HowToMurderYourLife · 14/10/2021 13:49

Going unused that should say Blush

AprilLady · 14/10/2021 13:53

@Housewife2010, I think selling the bits you don’t want on ebay is very sensible (and I’ve been known to repurchase on ebay bits I’ve really liked from calendars too!). But it’s the sellers who are the equivalent of ticket touts - buying scarce calendars to sell at a profit- that really, really annoy me and I wouldn’t buy from them.

Stokey · 14/10/2021 13:57

To be honest I think the whole thing has gone a bit crazy. If you're a normal person, rather than a beauty fan, who decides in November you'd quite like to treat yourself to an advent calendar, you've got no hope. I was like this last year and only managed to pick up a Liberty one as they did a second run. The whole having to be on line at certain times to access one is pretty intense!

MidnightMeltdown · 14/10/2021 13:59

@Housewife2010

True that nobody has to buy, but as you say, when multiple people buy up a whole load to put on eBay, it can remove the opportunity for others to buy at source (particularly those who work full time and don't have a desk job). It's not just acs, I've seen it with other things too. Usually sale items, and last year, toilet paper!!

Vulnerable people couldn't get hold of loo roll in the supermarket because of eBay sellers buying it up to sell at inflated prices. I actually emailed my local MP to complain about it, and they put pressure on eBay to remove the listings.

MorrisZapp · 14/10/2021 14:05

The Lumene calendar is on ebay at a lower price than elsewhere online. I'm not getting it this year, I can get so much more bang for my buck by getting mixed beauty bundles on ebay instead. I do love the excitement of an advent calendar but I just can't justify it for a third year in a row.

Giftwithpurchase · 14/10/2021 14:09

I think CB limiting to one per person this year was a great idea and will have made a real difference.
I suppose ppl could make multiple CB accounts if they were really determined to get more than one, but the limit seems like a sensible thing 👍

Housewife2010 · 14/10/2021 14:10

But will they be able to make multiple orders on the same account?

Giftwithpurchase · 14/10/2021 14:15

Hmm good question - or buy one in each drop I suppose .. 🤔

Housewife2010 · 14/10/2021 14:21

No, I mean this morning could they have made multiple single purchases of the AC? On the site it said you could only buy one, but that didn't make it clear whether that was one per customer or per transaction. Still, it was around for most of the morning and there's a second drop so it's far better managed this year.

BurningTheToast · 14/10/2021 14:28

Liberty Beauty Drop Spoiler thread here
Thank you!
shinny · 14/10/2021 15:18

I managed to get the CB this morning thankfully!

Then thought I'd get an ASOS one too as there is a 15% discount code if you download the app. Downloaded app and now it says I can't use the code as its only for first time users. So annoying. Maybe Ill just wait for the M&S one - I also fancy Selfridges or JL but doubt there's any way to get any discount on those.....

StiffyByng · 14/10/2021 15:42

So proud of myself! Almost succumbed to FOMO this morning and got as far as putting CB in My Bag and then thought of all the unused stuff I already have, and what else I could do with £200, and closed the window. I feel like a real proper grown up with self control for once. Grin

PomRuns · 14/10/2021 15:49

I decided against Harrods, happy with my Fortnums treat. I would like a Liberty GWP/bag though.

TheChosenTwo · 14/10/2021 16:16

Me too @StiffyByng Grin
I gave a few bits away last year, still have some of the things unused and for the vast majority of it I had already used and knew I liked it (but probably didn’t need any more!) or just felt a bit meh about it and trudged through using it up to get rid of it.
I decided against an advent calendar for this reason and didn’t even need to fight with myself this morning when the email came through! I had another look at the contents and saw a lot of either repeat products or things I’ve already got so it ended up being an easy pass for me. I’ll be following the reveal threads though, it’s exciting even as a bystander Grin
