Beauty Advent Calendars 2021 Thread 3 - Decisions Decisions! (Spoilers included)

Peridot1 · 08/10/2021 09:57

Hope it’s ok to have started the thread as we seemed to run out of the last one a bit quickly! And I was really enjoying the thread and reading everyone’s thoughts.

I started reading the first one determined not to buy one this year.

Currently I have the Rituals one and have just ordered the Origins 12 Day one for the 12 days of Christmas!

Let the chat and decisions continue!

Regarding sorting and sorting like others I have my stash sorted into bags of cleansers, toners etc. Now that travel is back on the cards I will use them up that way.

I’m really hoping to get the more glam and more indulgence boxes. I’ve never known the edit boxes sell out super quickly before but these do seem well promoted and hyped. Tbh I fear that after these boxes cult beauty might be on a downward spiral having been taken over by The Hut Group. I just have a feeling the quality of edits and GWPs etc is going to nosedive. I’ve never liked Look Fantastic.

LoveLabradors · 13/10/2021 13:41

Also I’ve noted that the Liberty advent calendar is hardly flying off the virtual shelves. I hope Liberty take note and improve - they also have declined with GWPs and the advent calendar doesn’t have the appeal either. Think they need to up their game! I’ve signed up for the beauty drop though and waiting for first box any day soon. Will be interesting to see if it is worth it….

Stokey · 13/10/2021 13:54

Agree @LoveLabradors. Liberty's is too similar to previous years, I've had it twice so don't want it again. Even the same box is a bit off putting to be honest.

Anyone had the Selfridge's one? I was thinking it looks quite nice except for the Le Labo perfume which is the same as last year's Liberty's.

Yes I think this too Sad The website has already changed for the worse.

Whenever I see products mentioned online that I haven't heard of I always google 'x product Cult Beauty' and check out the reviews etc on cult beauty (very handy when researching calendars!) but now when you do that even if the link on google is taking you to that specific product on the cult beauty website, once you click on it it just takes you to the homepage!

MidnightMeltdown · 13/10/2021 14:03

I like the look of the more glow box, but probably won't buy as I don't need the products and already have the alpha h.

More indulgence also looks good, but not sure that I want to pay that much alongside acs. Also, that Costa Brazil cream smells revolting. I was unable to use the last one I got.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/10/2021 14:08

@MrsMcCluskeysCat

It's worth checking reviews on space nk too. I often find that they are less positive than cult beauty for some reason. Not sure why. Maybe an older market who are less easily impressed.

I do find it a bit odd sometimes when you get women in their early 20s buying and gushing about very expensive anti ageing products. I was buying the cheapest I could find in Superdrug at that age! Confused

Thanks for the tip you are probably right! I do shop at Space NK as well as CB normally as got a Space NK shop in my local town centre.

Although I'm only mid 20's so you might find me a bit odd Grin I don't buy any anti-ageing products other than any that come in AC's/beauty boxes and I certainly don't then review them! I am very partial to a bit of Elemis though!

AprilLady · 13/10/2021 14:33

@MidnightMeltdown, smell is such a personal thing. I loved the Costa Brazil cream, and it’s one of the reasons I rather like the look of the More Indulgence box!

Agree that Cult Beauty is likely to go downhill from here. The Hut Group is struggling altogether; according to today’s papers they did an investor presentation yesterday which completely backfired and their shares took a huge tumble.

I think as long as you usually spend money on beauty in Liberty anyway (or are happy to divert some spend away from, for example, Cult Beauty(!) and spend in Liberty instead) then surely the Beauty Drop can't not be worth it, as the quarterly boxes don't actually cost you anything!
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/10/2021 14:50

Rock you've convinced me, that's excellent logic > now where's my bloody invite?!! < Grin

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 13/10/2021 15:04

I've never purchased from liberty before but I'm going to take a look at the website as the beauty bank seems a great deal and if they stock a lot of the things I use/like they could be my replacement for CB when it inevitably goes downhill.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/10/2021 15:04

@AprilLady

Yes that's true. To me the Costa Brazil cream smells like liquorice which is something that I absolutely detest, but I understand that some may like it.

It's probably a nice quality cream, I just could bring myself to try it as I hated the smell so much.

Housewife2010 · 13/10/2021 15:05

Re the Beauty Drop I also think it's handy that there's free P&P for members.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/10/2021 15:08

I decided not to sign up for the beauty drop as I probably won't need anymore products until 2023(!). Would be intrigued to hear how others get on with it though...

LoveLabradors · 13/10/2021 15:09

Rock - yes you are right - it is good value as the box is free snd if after three months I change my mind I can cancel! Smile

RockaLock · 13/10/2021 15:11

Tellmewhenthelang happy to be an enabler Grin

RockaLock · 13/10/2021 15:15

Labradors yes exactly, there's not really much of a downside as far as I can see.

Except for maybe if I love some of the freebies but they are £££££££

Oh, here's another potential downside: if accumulate so many products through this and advent calendars and GWPs, that I struggle to justify buying more stuff with the £20s I've been saving up in Liberty's beauty bank.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 13/10/2021 15:23
@OchonAgusOchonOh, I wonder if CB will release the boxes just after the advent calendar in the hope that they will sell to those who don’t manage to get a calendar?
I hope not. I'd hate to miss out in the frenzy Grin

It would make good business sense though.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/10/2021 15:49

Re the Liberty Beauty Drop ; Do you know if the free p& p applies to non beauty items too ?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/10/2021 16:01

So are Liberty staggering their invites for the beauty drop? And is there some unknown mystery qualifying criteria, such as an email address with a minimum of 4 consonants or something? Wondering why I haven't heard Confused

RockaLock · 13/10/2021 16:27

Tellmewhenthe I didn't get an email from Liberty either, which I was a bit miffed about because I'd completed a survey about it for them a while ago when they were mulling over the idea.

I only managed to sign up because someone on here posted a link. If I spot any signs of them opening up for new subscribers, I will post on here for you!

LoveLabradors · 13/10/2021 16:37

I’ve just ordered the Neals Yard winter beauty box with an order. It has some really nice things in it. I ordered the aromatherapy rituals night time kit which was already discounted and the beauty sleep shower oil is just gorgeous. I’m obsessed with sleep and night time rituals (my treat after work) and their beauty sleep stuff is the best I’ve tried so far. Only had to spend a fiver more then to qualify for the beauty box. Annoyingly though it seems that Neals Yard have been taken over by the Hut Group too - they are taking over the bloody beauty world! Disappointed in NYR for selling out…

Re the Liberty beauty drop I would love to pretend I am a valued and esteemed customer but I clicked on link on here Grin - I had registered for it but didn’t hang about when I saw the link!

TheDuchessOfMN · 13/10/2021 18:10
