For me it's 'Leggings must be worn with something that COVERS YOUR BUM'

I'm sorry, even with teenagers with lovely pert derrieres, leggings and top that stops at your waist look like you haven't got dressed properly, and on those of us with less than gravity-defying butts (such as myself) it just looks horribly unflattering, especially if you wear cheapass leggings where the fabric goes all see-through when stretched.

What rules do you stick to, even if out of fashion?

Dark blue and black don't go, unless the dark blue is denim and even then not as good as paler denim and black.

woodhill · 06/10/2021 11:37

@justasking111

40 denier tights does anyone still wear them?
Yes especially navy opaque in Winter

Navy and black look great together. Pale denim? 🤮
Fozzleyplum · 06/10/2021 11:55

I think when the likes of Ines de la Fressange say that navy and black work well together, they refer to French navy, which is a much softer and paler shade than "standard" navy blue.

IMO, putting a deep navy with black just gives the impression that you got dressed in the dark.

LaBellina · 06/10/2021 12:02

I think this combination looks great. But then again it’s Emmanuelle Alt….she would still look fucking fabulous if she wore a bin bag.

Yes! Like you thought they were both navy or both black!

No! Like you think navy and black look fine together.

knackeredcat · 06/10/2021 12:17

My eyeliners will be prised from my cold, dead hands Grin

Also a tart like PPs with my red toenails Wink

Have been guilty of red lipstick and plenty of eyeshadow, have toned the latter down over the years, but without red lipstick I look like a corpse with my colouring

I definitely have always had to cover my big arse when wearing leggings! Grin

shrugshrug · 06/10/2021 13:01

40 denier opaques. 60 denier opaques, 80 denier opaques, 100 denier opaques.
Yes I wear them all through November, December, January, February, March and most of April.
My legs would freeze otherwise. Smile

Oh no.....dull and dreary.

She looks great but only because the cropped jeans are on trend. I don't do cropped anything.

See, I have no problem with navy and black but the top and that jacket look terrible together.
IShoveLula · 06/10/2021 13:36

The outfit is quite shit, but she carries it off because it's her wearing it

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 06/10/2021 13:56

I think EA’s style is boring

She looks good though, because she has a beautiful face snd is slim so she could wear anything

Don’t aspire to her style though (or Parisian style at all tbh)

LaBellina · 06/10/2021 14:52

I really love her style! If I could copy anyone’s wardrobe, it would be hers. But then again, my style is quite minimalist and classic and I love dark colours.

HappyDays101010 · 06/10/2021 15:13

I think it makes her look top heavy.

LaBellina · 06/10/2021 15:13

Apparently I have a very different taste then most on MN Grin. Oh well.

Echobelly · 06/10/2021 15:15

I've never gone for the 'chic' look myself - it can look amazing on other people and I can admire it but I'd just feel boring in it and I'm too lazy to get the degree of (subtle) polish you need to carry it off - neat, unchipped nails, subtle, well-applied makeup etc. Unless you are super-polished it can just look like you're very unadventurous and want to be invisible.

Also a friend pointed out that the typical 'chic' look is unwearable for anyone like her with big boobs.

OP posts:
LaBellina · 06/10/2021 15:17

Yes, you’re probably right about that OP.
I do love the chic look but I spend a lot of time on subtle grooming and I am in the fortunate position of being tall and slim plus having a resting bitch face which I believe, really helps Grin.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/10/2021 15:45

Oh I think she look great!

SirChenjins · 06/10/2021 15:51

I think she looks great too - and she’s definitely perfected the scunnered face (which is a brilliant catch-all word we use up here to describe a range of emotions including annoyed, discontented, or bored. nauseated or disgusted Grin)

IntermittentParps · 06/10/2021 15:53

Black trousers shouldn't be worn with a brightly coloured top. As said by Trinny and Susannah back in ye dayes of yore. The early 00's.

Seriously. Can someone please explain this to me? What's wrong with this combo? What's the alternative?
Can't really explain except I think it looks too 'officey' in a naff way. Like a junior in HR in their first pair of smart trousers.

Alternative: grey, brown/neutral trousers, or a check or animal print.

Yogsgirl · 06/10/2021 16:32

40 denier tights are not actually that opaque! I much prefer 80-100 denier!

If you don't wear opaque tights what do you wear instead?

Yogsgirl · 06/10/2021 16:33

So if you want to wear a bright top what do wear with it if black trousers are out?

woodhill · 06/10/2021 16:36

Good question😃

I wear whatever tights are still knocking around till they are laddered. Dds left home and there are still some to wear.

Some tights are heavier denier
