For me it's 'Leggings must be worn with something that COVERS YOUR BUM'

I'm sorry, even with teenagers with lovely pert derrieres, leggings and top that stops at your waist look like you haven't got dressed properly, and on those of us with less than gravity-defying butts (such as myself) it just looks horribly unflattering, especially if you wear cheapass leggings where the fabric goes all see-through when stretched.

What rules do you stick to, even if out of fashion?

@Echobelly me too, unless sports leggings even then I wish they made longer line running tops!

Also brown shoes/boots with black trousers/leggings

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/10/2021 16:47

I wear blue and green and navy and black together all the time, and I prefer shorter tops with leggings, longer ones look frumpy on me.

I used to follow the Trinny and Suzannah rule of wearing v-necks due to my large boobs, but have recently decided slash and boat necks are quite flattering on me. Still don't think crew necks work on me though.

But I never put bright colours with black, and I absolutely cannot do double denim. I've seen it look ok on other people but I just can't.

ALongHardWinter · 06/10/2021 17:39

Magicpaintbrush Totally agree with you regarding buttons on coats. When did this ridiculous idea start,that winter coats have no fastening on them? The same goes for thick,chunky cardigans! Can't stand them flapping around in the breeze when it's bloody freezing!

Morgysmum · 06/10/2021 17:40

I agree with the leggings, especially when I can see the colour of your knickers. Or you are wearing a thong. 🤮 My son who is 14, things is fun to point out your VPL.
For me, it's White socks, i got told something about wearing white socks, I cannot remember, but it wasn't good. So I don't wear white socks, I also hate the socks and sandals look.
Also, I don't like guys with t-shirts on, as its always the pasty white skin and beer belly combo, I know I shouldn't body shame, but I am a big girl and don't wear bikinis, as I don't look good in them.

Bunchymcbunchface · 06/10/2021 17:42

Boobs OR legs
Never show too much flesh at a wedding

StCharlotte · 06/10/2021 17:46

See, I have no problem with navy and black but the top and that jacket look terrible together.

Quoting myself. I meant they look terrible because the top is navy with green tones and the jacket is navy with purple tones. They really don't go together and are quite jarring.

If the picture was black and white I'd say she looks great Grin

canyon2000 · 06/10/2021 17:46

@Morgysmum please tell your son that it is completely unacceptable for him to be pointing out vpl. It isn't fun it is horrible.

tearsforfears72 · 06/10/2021 17:46

Another one here who firmly believes leggings aren’t trousers and should only be worn with a long top!

IntermittentParps · 06/10/2021 17:50

@Yogsgirl

So if you want to wear a bright top what do wear with it if black trousers are out?
I've solved that for everyone Grin just above your post.

I thought exactly the same- I wouldn't wear two different shades of navy together but navy and black are not too bad- although I'd say a lighter navy looks better than those very dark navies with black.
LemonadeSunshine · 06/10/2021 17:54

Wearing a petticoat (slip!) underneath all skirts and dresses to prevent them cling filming to your body and legs. I've stopped on the way to work, gone back home and then been late because I realised I didn't have a slip on under skirt and it was pretty clingy - I just couldn't bring myself to do without

Yogsgirl · 06/10/2021 18:00

Back to the bright tops dilemma though- I think brown or neutral colours like camel/beige look horrible with bright colours. I would only wear neutrals with other neutrals. I would wear a bright top with a tonal dark colour- eg. a bright blue jumper with navy trousers, but that's probably the only bright shade I would wear in a block colour.

Best solution is to stay away from bright block colours altogether.

Echobelly · 06/10/2021 18:01

A PP was commenting about larger young girls wearing unflattering stuff but actually I have to say i love that a lot of the 'rule book' about what to wear for different body shapes has been chucked out and honestly, you can get away with loads when you're a teenager.

I actually love the fact I'm seeing bigger teenage girls and young women just wearing the shorts and the crop tops along with their mates and killing it, rather than in the past where the 'fat friend' might feel stuck with frumpy baggy stuff while their friends got to enjoy fashion.

Trainers do not go well with dresses.

TheWashingMachine · 06/10/2021 18:08

My DS aged about seven came out with an old rule boobs or legs, not both.

Also for men, no brown in town. I cringe when I see men in brown shoes and a suit.

Also keep untoned arms under wraps.

Never wear a "Croydon face-lift"

DreamTheMoors · 06/10/2021 18:11

@LaBellina

Boyfriend jeans have this name for a reason. I think they’re for men and I refuse to wear them Grin. I’ll live and die in my skinny jeans Grin
@LaBellina

They can take my skinny jeans off my cold dead legs lol - I bought an expensive pair and the very next day heard they were over.

Morgysmum · 06/10/2021 18:13

@cannon2000.
It isn't nice, but very hard when you can see, white Hello kitty knickers, on the lady in front of you on the bus, so right in his line of sight, she had leggings on, but they were very see through, across her bum, almost like she was wearing leggings. If she had a longer top on, we wouldn't have seen her pants, or wore thicker leggings. They were black on her legs.

I like wearing a slip and have several

I really like a brown neutral with a blue or teal, personally. Also like greys with some bright colours.
And a brown/neutral leopard print looks awesome with colours.

Yes, some are a bit 80s itms

I think pink looks ok with navy or neutral

Courgetteandbeans · 06/10/2021 18:17

@MorrisZapp

Red and green should never be seen
I always thought it was blue and green.
Yogsgirl · 06/10/2021 18:20

I can't imagine myself in leopard print trousers with a bright top personally!

IShoveLula · 06/10/2021 18:21

I can't see me in any leopard print

cherish123 · 06/10/2021 18:26

I never wear black and navy together.
