Bags to die for (or just save up for)

My friend turned up for a night out with a gorgeous handbag. It was a Mulberry one. Lovely, but not quite the one I would like. But I don’t know what I would like.
She said she’s been wanting it for five years and been saving up.
So what bag should I save up for five years for?
Please show me the bags you’re lusting after, or possibly the ones you already own.

Oh wait, mine is called a Cookie Lily? Lol, I just found that out now. Thanks Google!

@Lipsandlashes I have the small Amberley in black as my everyday bag and it’s brill. Quality is good, it looks really nice and goes with everything. I think I’m going to get it in burgundy for the Autumn too.

I remember going to selfridges when they just opened their new Hermes concession a few years ago. I was chatting with the sales associate and buying some sneakers, I mentioned I wanted a Kelly and he whispered "we have a Birkin left if you would like to try that instead?"

Couldn't believe it because I know it's not that easy to get one.
Anyway, not surprised it hadn't sold it was a terrible (IMO) two tone - blue and orange.
Couldn't afford it anyway so I politely declined but I was oh so close hahaha

I have this and I love it, it's my favourite bag. But it's absolutely huge. The same company makes bespoke bags, and my dream bag is a scaled down version with a deep green or burgundy suede lining, and a few interior slip pockets. They cost about £700 to have made which at the moment is a fair bit beyond my budget.

I've had my current one for about five years and it's aged so beautifully. The bags have lifetime guarantees and they're brilliant at sending out things like locks or fastenings if they get lost (the bags are designed to be easy to maintain yourself).

One day!

Forgot to say, I have a few Mulberrys too, but the doctor's bag is the one that gets the most compliments.

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 03/10/2021 21:40

Glad to hear it @IloveJudgeJudy, because Birthday&Christmas came early and I ordered it today. Grin Will have to give it to DH to hide away for me till the big day though, but it will build the anticipation.

Loving looking at all the other recommendations too.

Thank you - that’s so helpful. I really love it and don’t want to be put off it Smile

Oooohh lucky @GingerBeverage Yes it is such a classic. Do you also find you can’t get much in it? I have quite a chunky purse but I suppose for nights out I would only need my card not the whole purse.

I used to be really into Mulberry but when they changed designer back in 2015 their bags changed and didn’t really speak to me anymore.

I’ve not bought a new one since then, instead I bought LV, Hill and Friends (the old Mulberry designer Emma Hill’s brand), Anya Hindmarch and YSL. But I’ve just spotted a new Mulberry, the Sadie satchel, and I absolutely love it, so I think that is going to be my next bag purchase.

29ac · 04/10/2021 08:16

Ooh and I forgot about the Chloe Tess. I saw someone wearing one the other day and it looked incredible, so that’s another option for my next one actually.

bravelittlepenguin · 04/10/2021 09:59

I love a good handbag. I've got the Loewe puzzle bag which is a brilliant size and goes with everything. I've also got the Marni Trunk which is a bit more formal but very understated. I don't buy them often and suspect I'll buy them even less now that I've got babies as I can't seem to get over the guilt of big purchases for myself now. If money were no object I would but a classic Chanel flap bag. I've fancied one of those for about 15 years so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go off it and it's definitely something you can hand down through generations if your children like that sort of thing.

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/10/2021 11:20

What colour puzzle bag do you have @bravelittlepenguin? Can we see a pic please?

Scoose · 04/10/2021 12:09

I like the shape of the mulberry Sadie but hate the hard wear. Now I'm in a dilemma again! My mum is kindly buying me the medium lily in oxblood so I need to decide what to get off my husband I was looking at the ysl or Gucci marmont but now I'm thinking should I get more of a day bag like the mulberry amberley (larger size) or the bryn argh I just can't decide

Snoopsnoggysnog · 04/10/2021 12:16

I really dislike the mulberry branding on the Sadie! Looks really tacky!

Scoose · 04/10/2021 12:29

I agree snoop it's like something you would get at a market stall such a shame because I love the shape of the bag

GingerBeverage · 04/10/2021 14:56

Enough for me - standard iphone, small purse, keys, lippy, pen.
29ac · 04/10/2021 19:57

Ooh interesting, see I like the hardware on the Sadie because it reminds me of diptyque Grin probably not the reason I should like it! The Chloe Tess is a similar shape so clearly that’s the shape I’m liking at the moment.

SunStruck · 05/10/2021 02:58

I recently just bought the YSL Lou Lou myself in white/cream and got the LV neverfull I really wanted for work for anniversary 🥰 a splurge I've made in the past is also Balenciaga motorcycle bag, the mini one in cream... think discontinued as can't find a pic online but I'll take later. It's so cute but fits nothing in 🙄😬

I absolutely LOVE the size of the YSL I got and The crossbody strap (got a baby - it's so handy!) and the leather, the color is also gorgeous (I live abroad in a warmer country, for UK I'd probably get black!).

I quite like Prada as a brand too, good quality and got a few bags from there for work.

Trying to insert pics, not sure why it's not working?? Says I've got no photos to add 🤔

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/10/2021 07:46

Oh just remembered there is another Strathberry I have my eye on (I have the midi tote on grey). I’ll find a link.

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/10/2021 08:03

This one, the Lana Osette 😍

LaBellina · 05/10/2021 11:30

That’s a wonderful bag @bendmeoverbackwards. Esspecially the one in burgundy 😍.

I love bucket bags too. I recently discovered this relatively unknown brand and now this one is on my wish list

slipperyeel · 05/10/2021 14:50

I love a bucket bag too, they always seem to be just the right size.
I have lots of bags but this is probably the one I use most. www.handsoftym.com/products/bucket-bag-in-soft-suede
Lovely quality and much cheaper than some.

Ireolu · 05/10/2021 15:52

@DietrichandDiMaggio as promised. Bag is great. Good quality for money spent. Only critic us cross body could be longer. Overall I am a very happy camper.

Bags to die for (or just save up for)
MummyJ12 · 05/10/2021 16:56

It’s a beautiful colour @Ireolu 💗
