Bags to die for (or just save up for)

My friend turned up for a night out with a gorgeous handbag. It was a Mulberry one. Lovely, but not quite the one I would like. But I don’t know what I would like.
She said she’s been wanting it for five years and been saving up.
So what bag should I save up for five years for?
Please show me the bags you’re lusting after, or possibly the ones you already own.

@iheartbaby there is a Chanel price increase coming in the next week/weeks. May help you decide either way as Preloved prices go up too when these happen. I live in greater/north London and don't see many high end bags here. I don't care though as I know I wouldn't judge anyone doing their thing so don't give a hoot what others think. I say do what makes you happy as long as no one is hurt.

Wagsandclaws · 11/10/2021 12:02

Just to say ( again ) if you are happy with pre-loved then there are quite a few Facebook groups that have plenty of Chanel, Dior, LV and even Hermes for sale at very good prices.

They are usually from trusted sellers and you can get them authenticated via an authentication company ( quite a few that are up for sale have already been and come with authentication certs too ).

Just an idea for anyone that doesn't want brand new, my experience is that ladies who have these bags take very, very good care of them so they are often in lovely condition Smile

LaBrujaPiruja · 11/10/2021 12:23

I have Chanel, Balenciaga, Fendi, Dior, Mulberry, etc. and am set to “inherit” a vintage Kelly (my mum’s, a present from his godfather in the 50s, when it was not that expensive/exclusive); I use them all the time but they are very “usable” (11.12, Boy, Lariat/City, Graffiti, Baguette, Saddle, etc.) and I’m in London, where you see people with this bags all the time. Anyway, my most used bags for work are the Mulberry Bayswaters although I use the Graffiti and Saddle all the time. Also the Boy, although it is more delicate and you need to be careful. Must of them are ‘bonus’ presents from my husband (chosen from my wish list).

There are, however, bags I would never buy (like Goyard, Hermès or Louis Vuitton) for different reasons, and I will only save for an ‘investment’ bag.

I agree that most second hand bags are very well cared for but would not buy from eBay or a Facebook group. I would only trust something like Vestiaire Collective or a very reputable authentication company.

LaBrujaPiruja · 11/10/2021 12:24

Sorry for the typos! Autocorrect at its best!

LaBrujaPiruja · 11/10/2021 12:26

Bulgari, I would never buy Bulgari. I think they are very ‘vulgary’.

Wagsandclaws · 11/10/2021 12:34

@LaBrujaPiruja Vestaire and hardly ever worn it have been selling super fakes themselves. Facebook groups such as Chanel addicted very often have ladies who have huge collections, are extremely knowledgable and have their bags authenticated by not one but several stand alone parties.

I wouldn't touch Vestaire especially as they have been selling fakes that get past their authenticators, I know of several people who've bought and sent back bags from there.

I'm not talking about buying on Facebook market place but there are dedicated pages full of ladies who have extensive collections and know what they are talking about when selling and buying.

Does anyone buy liners/organisers for their bags, and if so can you recommend a seller please. I saw a few on Etsy but what concerned me was they were selling them as fitting each particular model perfectly but when buying you were asked to measure your bag yourself and input the dimensions- sorely the dimensions are standard so if they’re saying this organiser fits the neverfull MM as an example, then it should fit it?

Wagsandclaws · 11/10/2021 13:00

@sammylady37 Handbag angels are brilliant. They do bespoke sizes and then you have to put in the dimensions but all the liners I've bought you just look for the model and they fit perfectly, I have a liner for every one of my bags as I think it helps them to keep their shape.

stevalnamechanger · 11/10/2021 13:02

I just want a vintage Chanel 😻😍 cannot locate the one I want ( large : caviar : double flap : gold hardware ) currently ! I'm on the wait list with a few sellers

Thank you! I love getting recommendations rather than purchasing from randomers and hoping for the best!

I love my Senreve Maestra. I paid £580 but it seems to have gone up by a lot, you can get slightly flawed bags for a big discount though. I bought a clutch in such a Senreve sale and don't notice anything different.

It's a backpack and a crossbody/shoulder bag in one. Came in quite handy yesterday when the staff at the palace museum I was visiting told me I couldn't carry a backpack on my back. My DH had to wear it on his front while I easily converted it into a crossbody :)

@Wagsandclaws

I said “something like”; I know they’ve had bad reviews, but also know people who have purchased items from them without any issues and one case where the money was refunded (2016-ish). What I want to stress is that at least you would need to buy from a person or site who offers some kind of “guarantee”, not from a random group where the transaction is going to be, let’s say, anonymous.

But… I prefer to buy myself directly from the brand or in-store concessions. To be honest with you, I’m very distrustful when it comes to this. I ordered something from Dior a couple of years back, to be delivered to Italy because it was much cheaper if paying in euros, and once received I checked it inside out to confirm it was no fake… and it has been bought directly from them!

LaBrujaPiruja · 11/10/2021 13:53

Better not to edit posts in preview… I have added that ‘myself’ without reading the sentence, hahaha

Daisy829 · 11/10/2021 15:04

@Ireolu can you only get the polene bags from their website? I’m wondering if there would be import fees now we are out of the EU?

Ireolu · 11/10/2021 15:57

@Daisy829 yes from their website and no import fees. It took 4 days to arrive from Paris but was ordered over a weekend. Hope that helps.

FatBettyintheCoop · 11/10/2021 16:06

I love all sorts of bags but I'm not really keen on the typical 'designer bags' usually posted on here, as they're all so plain looking and really not my thing at all. I love bright colours and lots of patterns.

I've been practising sewing different types of leather and plan to make my own leather bags (just for me) when I've found some skins I like. I've already sewn a number of fabric and faux leather bags. I do get fed up of friends angling for a freebie or telling me I should try to sell them though. Confused

On Purse Forum, Samorga is the favoured brand.

However Zoomoni is very popular too.

sammylady37 · 11/10/2021 19:47

@ElspethFlashman, thank you!

@Wagsandclaws

I have a few Chanel and I love them. You can buy a Chanel and just use it as your every day bag, the totes are a good idea especially if you can buy one in caviar leather. I have goatskin, lambskin and caviar and prefer the lambskin but you have to be so careful with it, caviar is pretty robust.

I have been coveting the Bottega cassette bags but they are quite fashionable at the moment and I don't feel that I can part with 3k on a 'bag of the moment' much like a Dior saddle bag .

I've found a gorgeous bag that has the look that I'm after and it arrived yesterday and I've used it today, the leather is utterly gorgeous, Italian buttery leather and it's so stylish I'm super pleased! I bought it in Ecru ( Cream ) it comes with the cream crossbody strap and also the interchangeable gold Metis chain which I used today. It's amazing and under £200!

@Wagsandclaws where did you get your cream bag from, it sounds bargainous! ( Apologies if you've said elsewhere in the thread)!
Daisy829 · 11/10/2021 20:40

@Ireolu thank you. I think I’ll watch a few more reviews before I decide. I like the fact that it’s quite an unknown brand for now! The Aspinal arrived which is lovely but I’m not convinced the strap will hold up by the way it’s positioned on the bag
