Bags to die for (or just save up for)

My friend turned up for a night out with a gorgeous handbag. It was a Mulberry one. Lovely, but not quite the one I would like. But I don’t know what I would like.
She said she’s been wanting it for five years and been saving up.
So what bag should I save up for five years for?
Please show me the bags you’re lusting after, or possibly the ones you already own.

You will always find me on a handbag thread....ladies, you have to think of it on a 'cost per use' basis. If you pay £1000 for a bag but you use it lots and love it, and it lasts a long time, then it's value for money. If you buy a cheap thing which falls apart in 6 months, that's not good value. That's what I tell myself anyway...

Oh id love a puzzle too! I have decent dupe of it from Michael Kors, but still would love the puzzle.

(Blatantly hanging round for more gorgeous bag pics)

@purpledagger

I got one of these recently. I love that it's really versatile and comes in lots of different colours.

In terms of saving up, I asked for money for my birthday/Christmas etc and this really helped to increase the savings.

It's very sleek but is it really versatile? What different types of uses does it have?
Mirrorxx · 01/10/2021 17:36

I have a classic Chanel flap and that was worth waiting for. I’m just about to get a Celine classic, which I might be even more excited about than the Chanel

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2021 17:36

I fancy a monogrammed canvas type shoulder bag by Coach but it's wildly unsuitable for my life and would live a sad and lonely existence in my wardrobe.

Thischarmlessgirl · 01/10/2021 18:35

My Chanel bags, classic double flap and a beautiful wallet on a chain. They make me very happy 😃

purpledagger · 01/10/2021 19:04

Morris it's versatile for my lifestyle. I use it as a couch if I'm going out for dinner, or as a pouch in a bigger bag.

postingfortraffichere · 01/10/2021 20:05

@chocolatesaltyballs22 it's lovely Grin

Wagsandclaws · 01/10/2021 20:31

Ahhh bags, my weakness. I adore Chanel, I started off with Mulberry and gradually bought more Chanel and Dior.

I love my two Chanel wallet in chains, I have two Chanel 19's too which I love so much I think they are my favourite or it's a toss up between them and lady diors.

I try and buy one bag a year and have quite a few now. I also adore Aspinal - totally understated brand and amazing quality - much cheaper than Mulberry too.

Love the Bottegas as well, I went to Selfridges to buy either a Chanel or a Dior with my years savings and I had a look in Bottega and the cassette bag was amazing but reminded me a bit of the 19's I have.

I bought a Dior in the end, a gorgeous tapestry lady Dior that I love so much, its not leather though and I did baulk a bit at paying that much for non leather but they take weeks to make and it literally is a work of art.

Tbh OP, Mulberry is lovely, their older stuff is better quality though, I buy a lot second hand through Facebook groups, Chanel, Dior Ect and get them independently authenticated ( always pay by PayPal ) it's a great way to buy designer if that's what you want for a lot less than brand new.

I hope you find your dream bag Smile it can be addictive!

evtheria · 01/10/2021 20:51

In no particular order:

  • Loewe Hammock (small one)
  • Dior 30 Montaigne box bag (IN ALL THE COLOURS) with their different crossbody straps
  • Celine classic (small, black or nearly any shade of green)

I don’t usually bring a handbag out so DP was surprised and intrigued to recently find out I had a bag wishlist. Think he nearly choked when he asked me to send links to them.

saturning · 01/10/2021 22:18

the ultimate dream bags ... not going to happen soon for me as a sahp!

I got two of my dream bags for my 40th, a new mulberry lily and a pre-owned LV pochette accessoires new model from 2014 in red epi leather which took ages to find.

Other dream bags are LV Alma in BB size in damier ebene, Fendi Baguette and LV Noe BB bucket bag in monogram.

I have a Bayswater and an Abbey bucket bag which i have used for work in the past.

why do upscale handbags feel so good to wear and own? Marketing really works!!!

Do you feel like you are judged for owning £1k + handbags or do you live in larger towns or cities where pricey bags are frequently spotted?

saturning · 01/10/2021 22:20

And yes ... totally understand all the Puzzle love.

saturning · 01/10/2021 22:56

Can i ask if you own Chanel and Dior, where do you use them (eg down at Waitrose or Tesco), out and about at the weekends etc? Do they feel "very luxury" and compatible with the rest of your lifestyle?

I think I would love a more premium brand, like Chanel but carrying one would seem to at odds with my lifestyle as I am on school runs, running errands in town or on country walks at the weekends, maybe one or two meas out per month.

Anywhere! Yes supermarket lol

Never understand why people come on these threads to say they don't get handbags. This thread isn't for you!
There was an amazing Chanel handbag thread on here a while back, we should resurrect it.

NinnyNewName · 02/10/2021 00:25

I bought a red Gucci disco bag a couple of months ago. I have never spent that much on a bag before. I absolutely love it and use it most days. It's like a tardis!

Tai people have asked me if it's real. Errr, yes!

I think the Celine classic box is the prettiest bag. I was never into Celine but this one just sneaked into my radar.

I used to be (and still am) a Saint Laurent girl through and through. The YSL logo really has magic for me.

Wagsandclaws · 02/10/2021 03:55

Yes I use mine for the weekly shop sometimes, the little Chanel woc's are amazing versatile bags. I use something called a 'woc saver ' which essentially makes the bag twice the size - you put a hard bit of cardboard across the hitting of the bag and it opens it out so you can get more in it.

Dior is less of a day to day look and they are nice to use for shopping trips or lunch out.

I had a ysl college and Lou Lou but sold them on as I didn't use them enough but I still have a lovely ysl Kate and silver barrel style bag - I'm a big ysl fan too. Again the quality is outstanding.

I'd love a Celine, I haven't had one yet and it's on my 'to do' list so to speak.

I have a school run, dogs horses and chickens so my lifestyle isn't always compatible with high end bags but I also have the Aspinal, Chloe and Hill and friends bags that I use for general day to day stuff. Have a look at Hill and friends - Emma Hill used to design for Mulberry and her bags are lovely.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 02/10/2021 09:07

@NinnyNewName I have that in black and I love it as well. Such a classic design. The red is lovely.

ElspethFlashman · 02/10/2021 09:17

A Chanel Business Affinity bag.

Saw one on Lily Allen and was like, why does her Chanel bag look different...? Omg its smooshier and has a handy front zip pocket?!!

Turns out it has a pocket on the rear side for your phone too and fits looooads more than the regular Classic Chanel bags.

It costs bajillions so is definitely a Lottery win purchase sadly. I have several LVs but Chanel is just way out of my league no matter how long I'd save. 😭

Lucky Lily Allen!

OP, if you want a designer bag but don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money there is an increasing number of new designers pitching themselves in the affordable luxury space.
Have a look at Mansur Gavriel, Danse Lente, Wandler, Gu-de, Polene (my favourite), Strathberry, Staud.

For more established brands that have a good range under £1000 look at Lulu Guinness, Vivienne Westwood, Aspinall and Mulberry.

postingfortraffichere · 02/10/2021 09:31

Also OP, I never buy Jew I least buy second hand. Can pick up some real bargains of the high end brands if that's what you're after and then don't feel bad when you get bored of them selling them on as you break even or even profit in some cases

Mirrorxx · 02/10/2021 10:06

@MavisMonkey polene is great quality. I really enjoyed visiting their shop in Paris and have a couple of the bags now

This is my dream bag. Even if I could afford it, I’m not sure if I would actually buy it. It’s so much money for a bag, and unless you have nearly unlimited resources, you can use that money for a lot of other nice things too. But still, one can dream….
