Bags to die for (or just save up for)

My friend turned up for a night out with a gorgeous handbag. It was a Mulberry one. Lovely, but not quite the one I would like. But I don’t know what I would like.
She said she’s been wanting it for five years and been saving up.
So what bag should I save up for five years for?
Please show me the bags you’re lusting after, or possibly the ones you already own.

I know they’re not high high end but I’ve always bought my bags from Russell and Bromley and they are rather fabulous. I like that red Aspinall beauty though. Could be tempted to change…

Cruiser11 · 03/10/2021 10:34

I’m a Russell and Bromley fan too.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 03/10/2021 10:41

@Ireolu please come back and tell us about the Polene - I like the look of the numero uno in trio green.

Iloveabourbon2 · 03/10/2021 10:48

I swear by my Darley wallet in black with a gold clasp. So classy and it has lasted ages.

Marc jacobs snapshot DTM bag. Much cheaper than the other high end bags.

Howdidigetsoold · 03/10/2021 10:53

I have Chanel, LV, Gucci, Mullberry etc

Wandered into Hermes to see if they had any Birkens for sale and got told no. So yes I think you have to have built up a relationship with the store to get them.

I think I will get on of the Bottega Venetas this year - my friend had a couple and they seem to wear well - though if anyone knows any dupes let me know

Ireolu · 03/10/2021 11:04

@DietrichandDiMaggio will do. Bought by my enabling husband on Friday. Coming from Paris. Will update on thoughts when received.

slipperyeel · 03/10/2021 12:24

I have a beautiful Danse Lente bag which is great quality but very impractical. I love the de mellier ones, that might go on my Christmas list.

RunningOnFumes · 03/10/2021 12:36

I like the Acne musubi www.acnestudios.com/uk/en/musubi-midi/A10100-640000.html
Loewe and Bottega are v on trend now, not sure about in 5 years..they are beautiful though
Quite like those tapestry Dior bags too.

Wagsandclaws · 03/10/2021 13:08

@RunningOnFumes this is my Dior, I bought two months ago and love it so much!

The silk scarves you have to buy separately but I bought them to help preserve the bag handles from general grubbiness.

Mirrorxx · 03/10/2021 13:55

@Ireolu I love your Chanel. I’m desperately looking for a chevron flap bag but my local store only had it in lambskin and I want caviar

RunningOnFumes · 03/10/2021 14:12

Very nice Wags - I think tapestry is fab on bags.

Yorkshirelass04 · 03/10/2021 14:18

I have the tan puzzle bag and i have literally not stopped using it for 2 and a half years. It goes with everything.

I always though designer handbags were for those with imaginary sex and the city lifestyles but I'm a convert with the puzzle.

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 14:30

@Mirrorxx If you’re only going to own one Chanel, absolutely make sure it’s grained calfskin/caviar leather. Lambskin is way too delicate.
@Howdidigetsoold yes, you absolutely have to build up a relationship with a Hermes sales associate to get your hands on a Birkin. Even then, you may not get a choice of colour, leather or size. I’ve never heard of anyone just going into a boutique cold and the team even divulging that they have one in stock, never mind selling it.
If you know your rare Hermes scarfs, and buy enough, that should unlock the secret door pretty easily.

Mirrorxx · 03/10/2021 14:39

@MummyJ12 my jumbo classic flap is caviar and it is very easy to use and look after

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 15:06

Exactly, thankfully most of my classic flaps are in caviar. I only have one in lambskin. As gorgeous as it is, it’s just too high maintenance for me!

Ireolu · 03/10/2021 15:23

@Mirrorxx thank you. I remember sharing your excitement a while ago when you got your jumbo caviar. Chanel stopped releasing the minis in caviar a few years ago. I think I got this one in the last season they were available so I know I am lucky to have it. The chevron is definitely a Chanel fan thing. Most people recognise the quilts/diamonds not many the chevron pattern.

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 15:48

It doesn’t look like there are any chevron classic flaps in the fall/winter collection. Only chevron 2:55s. Definitely worth holding out for though @Mirrorxx good luck with the search 💗

Howdidigetsoold · 03/10/2021 15:49

@MummyJ12 good to know! Have some scarfs so will add more to the Christmas List

Howdidigetsoold · 03/10/2021 15:50

Or is it scarves…

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 15:52

Scarves @Howdidigetsoold Blush my fault for rushing and typing x

Howdidigetsoold · 03/10/2021 15:56

I googled it - both ways are correct :-)

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 16:01

Ah! Thank you Smile wishing you luck with your search also! I can recommend etoupe (goes with everything) and togo leather. (Light and pretty low maintenance) x

MummyJ12 · 03/10/2021 16:03

This is my collection. I use the etoupe the most 💗

@mobear

I love this LV Métis. It is difficult to find an excuse to buy it though as I have several bags in black in this size including a Chanel and a Saint Laurent Loulou. I have a wallet in the Monogram Empreinte leather though and it’s divine.
The LV Metis is my most used bag - absolutely love it.

On the subject of Mulberry, you can buy some really nice pre-loved bags from when the quality was better.
