Bags to die for (or just save up for)

My friend turned up for a night out with a gorgeous handbag. It was a Mulberry one. Lovely, but not quite the one I would like. But I don’t know what I would like.
She said she’s been wanting it for five years and been saving up.
So what bag should I save up for five years for?
Please show me the bags you’re lusting after, or possibly the ones you already own.

Just coming on to share my latest find with fellow bag lovers. For those like me that like buying pre-loved, check out Sellier Knightsbridge on Instagram. They are like Re-Bagged in NYC and all their bags are independently verified before sale. They also do high end jewellery, watches and fashion. I haven’t bought anything from them yet, but love a good ogle through their insta stories!

queenofarles · 02/10/2021 11:33

Can i ask if you own Chanel and Dior, where do you use them (eg down at Waitrose or Tesco), out and about at the weekends etc? Do they feel "very luxury" and compatible with the rest of your lifestyle?
Everywhere it’s just a bag , food shop, out with Dcs, sport clubs …etc .

Mirrorxx · 02/10/2021 11:38

I use my Chanel all the time. I got the jumbo size so I can use it in the day time

These are my babies.

@MissMaple82

Why haven't you been banned yet? I always see your name commenting either hideous, unkind or just outright strange things. Who wastes their time coming on to a bag thread to write that Grin

Gemma2019 · 02/10/2021 16:38

I've just bought this Louboutin Cabata after seeing it recommended on a recent thread. I am absolutely thrilled with it, I think it's the nicest bag I've ever had.

OP, if you want a designer bag but don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money there is an increasing number of new designers pitching themselves in the affordable luxury space.
Have a look at Mansur Gavriel, Danse Lente, Wandler, Gu-de, Polene (my favourite), Strathberry, Staud.
@MavisMonkey
Very interesting, thank you. I have had a look at some of those and have many more enjoyable browsing hours ahead of me I think!
I also really love the look of the Chanel business affinity bag. Too pricey, but I can dream.
Do you handbag lovers normally go for stiff leather bags, soft ones, or something in between?

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 02/10/2021 18:46

I don't go near stiff ones. I think they're quite matronly as a rule. Though I can understand if you're bringing a laptop around with you.

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 02/10/2021 19:23

I've been looking for the perfect red bag for some while now and lurking on the bag threads on MN looking for inspiration as I'm not very handbag literate. So, thanks to @Wagsandclaws I took a look at Aspinal and found this beauty:

www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/midi-london-tote-in-cherry-pebble

It was proper gasping out loud love at first sight. I have a birthday and Christmas coming up. Must write to Santa Claus.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/10/2021 19:27

Aspinal bags are fab

Nuffaluff · 02/10/2021 19:39

That red aspinal is a beauty, and not such a huge huge splurge as all that.
I might have a look at them in John Lewis tomorrow. (Children going on play date- whoop whoop!).
@ElspethFlashman I generally like soft leather, but I have a Coach handbag that flops over too much.

Noeuf · 02/10/2021 19:39

My favourite brand is Coach for every day, nicer than eg Ted Baker or other department store regular brands and so far hasn’t appeared too regularly in TK Maxx. Have a lovely Lulu Guiness orange box bag which I love, and an ancient Mulberry satchel back from when they were affordable.
Would love to find an interesting new brand especially a vegan one.

I finally after a lot of waiting got this beauty. And yes I wear it to Sasbo.. school run.. it's like my little best friend. I'm making the most of it & use it all the time!
Nuffaluff · 02/10/2021 19:41

I am really enjoying looking at all the bags posted on here. Thanks everyone!
I am a bag person, not a shoe person (wide feet, high instep🙁 - nb, only slight sad face - I realise it’s not a tragedy).

Where else do people buy second hand really posh bags from?
I saw a great post by Trinny on Instagram where she was just showing all of her handbags. That was an enjoyable half hour of my life Smile

@Wagsandclaws can you let me know the name of the FB group you use? I'm desperate for a Chanel but cannot justify paying full price when we are saving for our wedding and an extension! 🙈

Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/10/2021 20:03

Big fan of Aspinal, I’ve been carrying a black camera bag since the first lockdown but now we’re back in offices some of the time I’m finding it too small even though I have a laptop bag aa well. My birthday is coming up so I’m going to get this

www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/stella-satchel-in-chestnut-pebble

Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/10/2021 20:04

Personally I’m not a big fan of heavily logoed bags like Chanel or Gucci. I have a couple of old mulberry’s which have very subtle branding and are beautiful but they don’t seem to make that kind any more.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/10/2021 20:05

I want this maroon one from APC.

For more established brands that have a good range under £1000 look at Lulu Guinness, Vivienne Westwood, Aspinall and Mulberry.

I've got a Mansur Gavriel tote. It's lovely. A.P.C. Bags are also excellent quality for the price.
MorrisZapp · 02/10/2021 20:18

Handbag Heaven on Howe Street, Edinburgh sells pre loved designer loveliness from bags and purses through to shoes. They go from silly priced stuff like on this thread down to good quality high street. Absolutely worth a visit.
