You have to choose ONE shop to buy clothes from, for the rest of your life...which shop are you choosing?

It has to be a stand-alone brand, so no asos or zalando type choices.

Mine is a close call between Cos and Uniqlo. I really like that monochromatic, vaguely Japanese, minimalist but striking look. I only rarely achieve it though.

It'll have to be Uniqlo, I don't really have a Cos lifestyle I don't think. I find the clothes aspirational though.

So what are you going for?

John Lewis Kin. Half my wardrobe is from that range.

Lndnmummy · 25/09/2021 16:03

COS

DGFB · 25/09/2021 18:53

Sezane has lovely thick jumpers! But if I had to choose one it would be Jigsaw

Floisme · 25/09/2021 19:08

If I had to stick to my current budget - my local dress agency.

If I had a much bigger budget - Margaret Howell.

If money were no object at all, I'd have all my clothes custom made.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/09/2021 19:09

EMP, their black premium and RED ranges.

Mossstitch · 25/09/2021 19:20

If money no object I'd say fatface but as it is Sainsburys Tu range always seems to have what I want.

mangodreams · 25/09/2021 19:32

Mint velvet

M&S. Yes, it's a boring choice, but it would provide everything (bar outdoor wear). I'm tall so lots of other stores only have a few items that fit. I wear men's jackets and shirts, already wear M&S jeans.
I'd miss my Curvy Kate bras though. And running/hiking shoes could be a problem.

PostItNow · 26/09/2021 07:53

Toast or Uniqlo - tricky one, I love both!

madaboutrunning · 26/09/2021 07:53

@onedayiwillmissthis

Cotswold Outdoor...I am probably beyond hopeBlush
You are not alone - this would also be my choice too!
SusannaM · 26/09/2021 07:57

All those saying M&S - do you really think the stuff is good quality?

Never had an issue? Always found their school uniform far better than others. Their jeans last fine, I've never had the lycra fail in them like some I could mention. Shirts wash well. Exercise wear is uninspiring (though they are finally putting thigh pockets in their leggings), but it does the job. Really rate their boots, I've got two pairs that have lasted really well. Sizing is very erratic though. Their online ordering and quick delivery to store is first rate.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 26/09/2021 07:58

New Look

ScumbagDave · 26/09/2021 08:05

Yes, I find M&S quality fine. Better and more consistent than &OS, Hush etc by a country mile IME, and way cheaper. They also score higher than a number of pricier shops in terms of sustainability.

gogohm · 26/09/2021 08:26

Probably Sainsbury's, nice clothes reasonable prices. I too was thinking charity shop but they never have much underwear obviously! (Actually they do have sealed pack of knickers occasionally) so I'm afraid I do need bras in this imaginary scenario

Jumpingintosummer · 26/09/2021 08:36

@lots33

John Lewis. Decent own brand, good jeans, lots of dressier clothes but also clothes by Seasalt, Hush etc. Plus nice lingerie and nightwear.
Wishful thinking, stand alone brand was the remit.

Hush for me. DH seems to think I currently own a lifetime supply of underwear and shoes so should be good there Grin

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/09/2021 09:45

I mostly shop at charity shops, but if I can't have them I'll have to go for UNIQLO too, it's great for basics and cashmere. Their dresses are bit rubbish though, so I'm going to struggle if I want anything fancy.

Crackletranton · 26/09/2021 09:52

EMP, I think.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 10:01

M & S, Sainsburys & Charity shops,

NalPolishRemover · 26/09/2021 10:08

Whistles or sezane - 80% of my wardrobe is from there already

In my 30s I would have 100% said jigsaw (which I still love)

MargosKaftan · 26/09/2021 10:40

Pre covid, id have said Oasis as well, I used to always find something in there and they fitted my body shape well. Must say everything I've ordered since they were taken over and went online only has been returned though.

Sadly, the bulk of my wardrobe is Boden. I dont think I buy much from there, but have been buying one or two things every year for over a decade and they last so well, this has ended up being the majority of my "long lasting" wardrobe. Perhaps I should just embrace it?!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/09/2021 10:47

I would go for Uniqlo too, they're good for apple-shapes and their stretch trousers fit on both my waist and my hips. Every other brand looks super baggy on the hips if it fits on my waist. Their clothes last for ages too, I've had some of their trousers and tops for about 8 years and they still look ok after lots of heavy use and washing.
