You have to choose ONE shop to buy clothes from, for the rest of your life...which shop are you choosing?

It has to be a stand-alone brand, so no asos or zalando type choices.

Mine is a close call between Cos and Uniqlo. I really like that monochromatic, vaguely Japanese, minimalist but striking look. I only rarely achieve it though.

It'll have to be Uniqlo, I don't really have a Cos lifestyle I don't think. I find the clothes aspirational though.

So what are you going for?

I'd go for Fat Face. I live in their jeans and stripey tops but there are decent coats and fancier tops and dresses etc. Plus undies. Lots of cotton too.

Blessex · 25/09/2021 07:21

Well you didn’t specify money was an object - so Prada! Great basics and knits. Brilliant dresses and going out clothes. Fab shoes and boots. What’s not to like Grin

Cazzovuoi · 25/09/2021 07:22

I’d pick Massimo Dutti. I love their faux silk material. It’s not polyester but I can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head.

Genehuntsfanclub · 25/09/2021 07:23

M&S I already do buy all my clothes there.

sanityisamyth · 25/09/2021 07:36

I love Mantaray clothes from Debenhams.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 25/09/2021 07:38

The hate for M&S is a bit 2017 - they have massively upped their game over the past few years. Loads of good quality basics (t shirts, merino knitwear etc) and some nice dresses , as well as stocking Ghost collaborations etc. Their shoes have always been good.

If I can’t have John Lewis on the basis it stocks multiple brands, then it would probably be Uniqlo or M&S. Would love Sezane but unrealistic, although & Other Stories might be a contender.

onedayiwillmissthis · 25/09/2021 07:39

Cotswold Outdoor...I am probably beyond hopeBlush

Little lies

I just looked at Free People on the back of this thread and found this ‘creation’ for £500 Shock

M & S here too

Have to admit I've not been in since 2019 (for obvious reasons), accompanying DM who wanted some simple basics. Some of the clothes themselves weren't horrendous IIRC but it took five times longer than it should have to find anything — so much tat, wacky organisation, dodgy sizing etc.
ClumpingBambooIsALie · 25/09/2021 08:01

So yes the overall experience may have led to me being a little unfair about the clothes Grin

Yes, case in point 😁

There's a lot of that sort of thing. I sort by price low to high to push the weird expensive things to the bottom of the list and find nice things in the £100 range, still a bit overpriced, but I've lived in their Nightingale cardis this spring/summer.

EllieSattler · 25/09/2021 08:04

Next. Brilliant, amazing range of jeans and a great selection of basics. I might not be the very height of style but then I never was Grin

savvy7 · 25/09/2021 08:05

Toast

lazylinguist · 25/09/2021 08:06

As you didn't specify whether budget was an issue, I'd go for either Hobbs or The White Company. Having recently had some birthday money to spend and having decided to spend it on a couple of more expensive items rather than in my usual M&S/TKMaxx etc, the quality difference and cut was so much better that I'm going to find it hard to go back! I went shopping all day and those two were the only shops where I found loads of things I liked.

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/09/2021 08:06

Popgoesthebandit, I was going to say killstar!

Nitgel · 25/09/2021 08:07

Uniqlo. Cos clothes just dont suit me.i buy lots from Free People too.

schmalex · 25/09/2021 08:11

I'd say Reiss. Their stuff just suits me!

Ozanj · 25/09/2021 08:12

H&m

BillyAndTheSillies · 25/09/2021 08:14

Arket or Uniqlo

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 25/09/2021 08:14

I would say John Lewis, because they stock multiple brands I like or at least dabble in: Whistles, And/Or, Kin, Jigsaw, Toast, maybe a smattering of Toast, Reiss or Ted Baker... I also mourn their in-house brand Modern Rarity deeply. Sad

If I can't cheat and pick a department store, Cos, although I think I'd look a bit funny in the undies.

I agree that m&s has massively upped its game this season. It has many, many bang on trend pieces for very reasonable prices. I browsed online and had a rapidly growing wishlist. I'm toying with buying several pairs of their balloon jeans right now.

Lockdowndramaqueen · 25/09/2021 08:15

Another one for Cos. Am I allowed underwear from somewhere else though? 😂😂😂

Cocolapew · 25/09/2021 08:18

Next. I've never understood the hate for it on here.

UsedUpUsername · 25/09/2021 08:20

Second Uniqlo. I was probably wearing 80-90% Uniqlo at one point in my life ….
