You have to choose ONE shop to buy clothes from, for the rest of your life...which shop are you choosing?

It has to be a stand-alone brand, so no asos or zalando type choices.

Mine is a close call between Cos and Uniqlo. I really like that monochromatic, vaguely Japanese, minimalist but striking look. I only rarely achieve it though.

It'll have to be Uniqlo, I don't really have a Cos lifestyle I don't think. I find the clothes aspirational though.

So what are you going for?

eBay

LimpLettice · 25/09/2021 02:41

Next. There are fancier shops, but Next jeans, soft knitwear, basics, half sizes, nice pants and pyjamas, you always find some thing.

Monty27 · 25/09/2021 02:45

@SoloISland they're online too some of them 😏🙂

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 25/09/2021 02:51

Marks and Spencer. Their clothes are awful but they're pretty much the only shop I can imagine surviving nuclear apocalypse, zombie apocalypse and world economic disaster, and come the end of the world, M&S clothes are at least marginally preferable to being naked.

lots33 · 25/09/2021 02:58

John Lewis. Decent own brand, good jeans, lots of dressier clothes but also clothes by Seasalt, Hush etc.
Plus nice lingerie and nightwear.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 25/09/2021 03:03

M&S is like WH Smith — a cockroach company that despite being awful at its core business, and seemingly appearing every few months on business news programmes due to falling profits and apparently being on the verge of collapse, keeps existing for some reason.

LoveFall · 25/09/2021 03:46

Showing my age perhaps. But as a quite tall woman from Canada where tall clothes are extremely rare, I find M&S a great source for classics that actually fit me.

Mind you Covid has kept me away from my M&S fix for over two years so maybe I am out of date there too.

Cos

Gap; for some reason I can only find trousers that consistently suit my shape from them and would have to manage the rest with them

MissKeithsNeice · 25/09/2021 06:29

Def uniqlo

LeonardLikesThisPost · 25/09/2021 06:32

Free People probably. I only discovered them this year and have spent far too much already. Some of it is too out there for me and some is hilariously overpriced, but I'm an absolute sucker for a chunky oversized cotton knit, and they have soooo many.

Pheebs2021 · 25/09/2021 06:47

Dorothy perkins was my go to to always find something.
Now I guess next.

Picassosdove · 25/09/2021 06:48

I think M and S has massively upped its game this year, so to my surprise, I would pick them. Can get underwear/ swimwear /active wear as well as ordinary clothes and the prices are incredibly reasonable compared to Whistles, John Lewis etc. I just bought the perfect extra fine merino cardigan with grosgrain ribbon on the leading edge - £45, a bargain for the quality. This autumn I have also bought a quilted jacket, quilted coat, 3 dresses, blouse and shirt. Really impressed after years of not touching them with a barge pole.

Other years I would have said Whistles, Jigsaw or Brora.

hellololabells2019 · 25/09/2021 06:54

@Picassosdove which quilted jacket did you get?

AuntieStella · 25/09/2021 06:55

Uniqlo is a contender for me - but they don't really do party clothes and I don't like their sports clothes.

So it might have to be John Lewis - but not sure if department stores count for the purposes of this thread.

If I could have sports separately, it would be Decathlon

Picassosdove · 25/09/2021 07:01

@hellololabells2019 The padded collarless puffer. I sized down.
