You have to choose ONE shop to buy clothes from, for the rest of your life...which shop are you choosing?

It has to be a stand-alone brand, so no asos or zalando type choices.

Mine is a close call between Cos and Uniqlo. I really like that monochromatic, vaguely Japanese, minimalist but striking look. I only rarely achieve it though.

It'll have to be Uniqlo, I don't really have a Cos lifestyle I don't think. I find the clothes aspirational though.

So what are you going for?

Probably mountain warehouse.

They do walking trousers, T-shirt’s and fleeces. Dresses and skirts. Sun hats and winter hats and gloves. Normal trainers, walking trainers /boots and sandals. Coats are covered.

The only thing I’d struggle with is bras and knickers and evening wear.

LadySpratt · 25/09/2021 08:24

Ralph Lauren. Suits all occasions. Don’t have the budget for a whole wardrobe of it, but a girl can dream.

actiongirl1978 · 25/09/2021 08:25

J Crew. I could literly cover every event, every mood and trend. I adore the clothes there.

Sadly my budge stretches to one item every few years new and the rest via ebay.

*literally

@Guineapigbridge

Icebreaker
I am dressed head to toe (well, knee) in icebreaker today. But for this question I think I’d answer Sweaty Betty.

M&S . Agree with PP that they've upped their game with womenswear in the past couple of years. Plus, I can get everything I'd ever need from head to foot. And milk. Grin

Cissyandflora · 25/09/2021 08:27

Zadig if I could be slim again. Otherwise Uniqlo but only the large tent stuff unfortunately rather than the cool stuff.

WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy · 25/09/2021 08:28

I basically already get everything from M&S already

Zampa · 25/09/2021 08:31

I pretty much already buy all my clothes in Monki, so have to choose them.

However, if money were no object I'd choose Me + Em for luxurious clothing which looks ultra fashionable whilst remaining completely classic.

Acrackineverything · 25/09/2021 08:31

Mint Velvet.

All those saying M&S - do you really think the stuff is good quality? Agree they have some good designs at the moment but my god the fabrics are - imo - cheap and nasty. Even their cotton t-shirts (I bought a few this summer) shrank and went misshapen on the first wash. I'd put them lower than Primark on quality.

Divebar2021 · 25/09/2021 08:34

Did no-one say Zara?

My choice would be Arket probably although I don’t know what I’d do about underwear. I’m on the fence about M&S - I want to like it because it’s such a classic of the high street but some of the quality is terrible. I was given a dress by a relative and it’s unravelling after 1 wear. If I compare the fabric and quality of fabric next to a similar Arket dress there’s no comparison. I do have better quality items from M&S though so a tough one.

RubyFowler · 25/09/2021 08:35

M&S is loads better than it used to be. I've found the quality to be ok.

Labradabradorable · 25/09/2021 08:36

With my new perimenopausal waistline, I’d go for Hobbs. Lovely work and occasion dresses and a good smart casual selection.

But I’d have to have the odd furtive trip to the garden centre to stock up on dog walking wellies and waterproofs!

I think the selection is too large, and searching for higher quality items can get overwhelming.

But that said, I really rate the merino jumpers, the straight fit cotton t-shirts, the jeans (not every single design, but quite a few of them), the stretchy a-line mini skirts, their version of heat tech base layers, the 100% cotton pants, the wool or fleece lined or velvet touch tights, the hats and gloves, the shoes, and the boots.

Divebar2021 · 25/09/2021 08:38

@Acrackineverything

Agreed - cheap fabric. The dress I have that’s falling apart is Nobodies Child but other dresses I've seen are a similar quality. I have a couple of old St Michael pieces - one a velvet evening jacket and the quality is miles better.

jay55 · 25/09/2021 08:41

Ralph Lauren.

Mommabear20 · 25/09/2021 08:41

Primark! 😆

Can't remember the last time I bought anything that wasn't from there for myself or DC! 😂 I've even converted DH 80% off the time!

beigebrownblue · 25/09/2021 08:42

Asquith London.

But only in the sale. As I can't afford the normal prices.

It is comfortable, smart, sustainable and I never want to wear anything else.

Preech · 25/09/2021 08:42

Yeah, most of what I get from M&S is either M&S Collection or Per Una. I know I'm not supposed to like Per Una, but the bootleg jeans they put out this year have been amazing for me. And I don't have any MN street cred to lose anyway. :-p

Derrymum123 · 25/09/2021 08:45

Tu @Sainsburys. They know how to have a sale.

Ponks · 25/09/2021 08:47

I love Jigsaw.

But realistically, it would be M&S.

spagbog5 · 25/09/2021 08:50

Hush
80% of my wardrobe is from them already as they just seem to do clothes that fit and flatter my middle aged shape well.
The quality isn't always good but they do make me feel good and somehow manage to hide the bits I want hiding Blush

SoloISland · 25/09/2021 08:52
@SoloISland they're online too some of them 😏🙂
REALLY? WOW... Thank you...

Thirtyrock39 · 25/09/2021 09:03

I love marks and Spencer at the moment. I've bought some lovely really soft tie dye T-shirts from there that were under a tenner
