anyone else still prefer skinny/slim fit jeans?

Or is it just moi? Grin

Im not too arsed with trends, but at 5'4 and slender I look like a chump in wide/mom/ even straight jeans. If slimmer jeans vanished off the market I'd probably just wear skirts.
We are all different so I know we all suit a variety of styles, but im wondering if there are more of us who still prefer a skinnier fit. This thread is for us!

Also would love to hear how you plan to 'update' the slimmer leg look this winter! Anyone have tips on how theyre making their skinnies stay 'current'?

Me. I am 5'8" size 12.

I loved bootcut jeans too.

Straight jeans look shit on me.

I just wear shorts in the summer.

Bluntness100 · 11/09/2021 17:11

Me, I prefer them and can’t see anyone looking good in wide jeans other than very slim teens.

lolliwillowes · 11/09/2021 17:18

Im very slim but wider styles look awful on me, maybe it's because I am not tall? My legs look their best in slimmer fits so any 'baggage' around my claves really makes me look shorter.

I don't get the 'teen' thing with clothing. I do think we just perceive teens as more trend driven and experimental, so are perhaps very forgiving. I can assure you I didnt suit baggy jeans at 16Grin

Me. I’ll not buy anything but skinnies.

CarrieMoonbeams · 11/09/2021 17:24

Skinnies all the way for me too.

I'm probably not the best person to ask about how to keep them "current" because it's not something I worry about, but in the autumn I wear them with black biker boots, same as every year.

Antsinyourpanta · 11/09/2021 17:25

I'm wearing skinnies and jeggings because that's what I like and I think they suit me. But I'm not too worried about what's fashionable or not!
I've had a pair of skinny flares once and I would consider those again but not sure I would go back to boot cut.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2021 17:25

I’m the same as you op, baggy stuff makes me look big. I’m still in mid-rise skinny jeans.

Dh saw some youngsters wearing baggy jeans and said they look awful, why are they wearing 90’s stuff. If you’ve never seen those styles before I suppose they look very new and different.

TableNiner · 11/09/2021 17:27

Me! I have short legs in relation to my torso. I don't like high waisted. Looser fits make me feel 'frumpy' and unattractive and swamped by fabric. My top half is heavier than my bottom half so if I wear baggier bottoms I look heavy all over.

Although not fashionable, I look slim and lean in skinnier fits. I've never particularly wanted to look like I have a massive arse, even though that is fashionable now and don't like that 'nappy' look.

I do think there's a possibility my eye will adjust in time as it took me a while to embrace skinny jeans but at the moment I just can't make them work for me.

DGFB · 11/09/2021 17:31

Skinnies and slim leg for me. All these barrel/mom jeans just make me look like a barrel.
I also like to tuck things into ankle boots.. so warm!

lolliwillowes · 11/09/2021 17:36

I agree, I look weird in anything wide at the ankle, but I did used to wear flares with huge platform boots in my teens. Unless I am prepared to wear 4 inch heels again (nope!) I aint wearing anything flappy at the bottom!

Seen some decent slim leg at Crew clothing and M&S, might try them out.

Was in H&M last week looking at the wide and flare jeans and every one of them were around 12 inches longer than my legs. Im not even petite.

Yarnandneedles · 11/09/2021 17:40

Slim fit for me.
Straight leg and skinnies are a no no, but I’m really fussy!
Can’t ever see me wearing bootcut again.

lolliwillowes · 11/09/2021 17:45

How do people classify a skinny. ?

I don't see much variation in fit between slim and skinny. Even many straight jeans are basically skinny with a slighly wider ankle. Ive never understood why people say they are 'freeing up their legs' Confused

Most jeans I see at the moment are basically skinnies with a wider calf.
Apart from mom and wide legs, obviously.

I like skinnies, I probably look tragic. I don't care. I ordered two new pairs yesterday.

lindyloo57 · 11/09/2021 17:58

Skinnie and slim for me as petite with top half slightly bigger than bottom half, so as TableNiner said baggie jeans make me look big all over, I did buy on ebay oasis bootcut jeans from 2000s that I used wear then, they fit me very well, as they fit like Skinnies down to the knee with a small bootcut.

lindyloo57 · 11/09/2021 17:59

oasis jeans are called scarlet if anyone interested.

BippityBoppity87 · 11/09/2021 18:00

Me. I prefer jeggings or straight cut trousers/jeans. I'm not a fan of the really big wide legged cropped trousers. Sorry, I don't know the name of them. I just don't think they look flattering at all and make even the slimmest of those look like they have a huge arse. They do look comfortable, but each their own I suppose

I asked this on another thread, but has anyone bought the m&s high waisted jeggings and if they're any good?

APurpleSquirrel · 11/09/2021 18:11

I love both skinnies & bootcut - but skinnies are great with boots for winter.
I've a friend who looks amazing in wide leg crops but they would look ridiculous on me!
I don't care what is in fashion - just what I like, think looks good on me & more importantly is comfortable!

lolliwillowes · 11/09/2021 18:38

I always love eyeing up those wide winter cords at Brora. Look perfect with cashmere jumpers and boots. In reality though I see them trailing through mud and looking bizarre with most of my rainy weather coats and jackets.

I notice they always photograph the models in a sitting position so you can see how nice the cords look with lace up boots underneath.
when walking though I imagine I'd look like Frodo.

I’m with you all! They can prize my high waist skinnies off my cold dead body!
I don’t know what on Earth I’m meant to do with mom jeans…

dontgobaconmyheart · 11/09/2021 18:59

I don't mind either way but haven't worn skinnies in a while. I'm 5ft 5 and slim (small size 8) and I really like high waisted straight leg jeans and long as the cut is a little slimmer. I did feel 'weird' in them at first but I don't think I look weird in them at all, they look cool and are far more comfortable, it's just what silhouette you are used to seeing.

Each to their own, I might dig out some black skinnies out in winter to wear with boots but I think its easier to look stylish in the looser cuts, skinnies look a little dated with some styles of tops I find, albeit still look good on!

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/09/2021 19:16

Mumsnet threads have been declaring skinnies as dated and out of fashion since 2012! yet River Island, Primark etc are full of them and in fact in my local store that is all you can buy. I don’t know why some people on here are so desperate to declare skinnies as dated, thread after thread, yet here we are in 2021 and skinnies are still holding strong.

AuntieStella · 11/09/2021 19:22

I'm not willowy enough to have additional material below the knees (where legs are meant to be narrower) without looking like solid tree trunk legs.

I've never gone in for the constrictingly tight skinnie, but will be staying with ordinary skinny.

Mercifully the rise of internet shopping means it's likely that they won't vanish completely as they did in the 90s (boot cut, wide straight legs, and straight legs never went away to the same extent - catalogues like Damart and the AbleLabel sticked then all along - my DMum prefers a wider look and has been buying them all along

TheWindow · 11/09/2021 19:27

Slim fit (not skinny) blue jeans or black skinnies til I die!

I don’t care if they’re not ‘on trend’. I’m in my 40s, I know what suits my shape, and I look ridiculous in loose or flared styles. Even straight jeans just remind me of 501s the first time around. No.

I’m a teen of the 90s, so I just cannot wear the 90s-inspired looks that the bright young things are wearing now. It would just be sad.

Marchingredsoldiers · 11/09/2021 19:28

It's the thick denim that I don't like. So bulky.

RubyGoat · 11/09/2021 19:31

Nope, hated them since the start. Only wearing them because I’m losing weight & I’ve promised myself some lovely jeans when I get slim again. Not wasting money on something that’s not going to fit for very long.
