I’m in love with a too expensive jumper

And I can’t get it out of my head.

If I owned it my life would be better and winter would be full of wonderful crisp walks.

Sigh

Washing instructions are dry clean or hand wash in cold water only. Make work/expense for yourself.

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2021 18:30

It’s not the washing, it’s the drying that takes for ever and takes so much room.

StarfishDish · 02/09/2021 18:36

@Maggiesgirl @WorriedWishingWell I understand 😊 I crochet and people don't seem to understand the cost involved!

ShingleBeach · 02/09/2021 18:37

OP, I have been hankering after the float stitch and or Donegal sweaters from that site for months.

But I read the washing instructions this week and it has put me right off.

Squidthing · 02/09/2021 18:47

As a knitter and IME buying decent quality wool for a jumper than size won't be far off the price so I don't think it's unreasonable at all.

NotMeNoNo · 02/09/2021 18:48

Natural wool doesn’t really pick up odours. If you didn’t wear it next to the skin (even if you did) and aired it, it might only need washing a couple of times a season.

I’m lucky wool doesn’t make me itch, I wonder when did we all get so sensitive? Wool was the UK’s main native textile for a lot of our history, everyone wore it.

Squidthing · 02/09/2021 18:50

Oh and there is literally no way I would knit it as a favour for anyone but closest family, it would take me much longer than a week (I do it to relax in front of tv).

PearlyRising · 02/09/2021 18:51

It's lovely but there must be a cheaper version

NotMeNoNo · 02/09/2021 18:54

Presumably the price reflects the fact it’s made in Europe (hopefully by people paid proper wages) from quality materials and the complexity of the design which will need a lot of manual input on the knitting machines. You can’t exactly compare with a synthetic jumper from H&M!

banivani · 02/09/2021 19:01

@Badgercity I wash my wool jumpers at the very most once every six months. I air them out and fold them away. But I don’t have them on naked skin so they get sweaty and if I spill something I do wash them because I’m no good at spot cleaning.

Badgercity · 02/09/2021 19:07

So with the “drying flat” - is that literally on a table or something? Not draped over something?

I love C&C. I spend my birthday money on something every September. This year I don't need to though as it's all still perfect! This is last year's Jumper of Joy - admittedly it was £90 with a code not double that.

Yes, exactly! Plus something made from good quality material and shaped properly is going to hang totally differently (and look a lot better) and last a lot longer than some cruddy acrylic item that is suspiciously cheap.

Not on a table or it won’t dry. I just use the bit of my drying rack that folds out flat, and lay things on that.
Foreverinthenineties · 02/09/2021 19:39

If you look on the jumper in grey colour it already pilling and bobbling. It’s made of Lambswool, that’s a disaster for bobbling.
I bought lambswool scarf for my DH from Lyla and Scott for Xmas and when he opened it started bobbling straight away.
We took it back on Boxing Day.
Totally waste of money.

melonhead · 02/09/2021 19:41

I bought Celtic sheepskin boots last year for £200 and I'm not very impressed with them or their customer service. They don't look like the images at all. I filled in a customer satisfaction survey about them and never heard anything back. I wouldn't recommend the company. I keep getting spam and it annoys me every time.

More on the flat bit of an airer. Which then means moving the airer around for a week, because I have dogs and a cat. I do have a reasonable outdoor hanging airer thing like www.amazon.co.uk/AYE-Sweater-Hanging-Delicates-Swimsuit/dp/B07Q4PKC9S/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=outdoor+mesh+dry+flat+airer&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1630609708&sr=8-2

Only better quality than that. But then it rains so where do you hang it inside?

NotMeNoNo · 02/09/2021 20:19

It depends a bit how it's spun as to whether lambswool (or cashmere or any other yarn) pills. I used to buy those M&s men's lambswool jumpers when I was a student and they lasted for years without going bobbly. Looser spun yarns are worse for it.

lonelySam · 02/09/2021 20:24

I am a good knitter and as everyone else on the thread said, it wouldn't he cheaoer if you wanted to make it in good wool.

Also, on a totally different note, I am in the EU and that sweater is €250 on their website!!!

Ddot · 02/09/2021 20:25

Dry flat, I place on towel and roll loosely to get as much water out as possible I then lay over clothes rack covered in another towel, making sure it is supported in a few places.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 02/09/2021 21:01

It's gorgeous. In my house it'd either be shrunk in the wash by a well meaning husband or get eaten by moths (both have happened too many times) I now only buy cashmere or lambswool items via ebay for under 20 quid. It hurts less that way.

Ddot · 02/09/2021 21:45

Oh lovely the whole outfit is lovely. But sorry I would if I could but I can't

Ddot · 02/09/2021 21:51

NigellaSeed Try ebay just looked got nice ones by that make
