Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

I don't like the dress sorry.

OldMamaOf3 · 19/08/2021 22:33

It's not doing a lot for you tbh....much better styles out there

starfishmummy · 19/08/2021 22:33

It's not great. Looks like some sort of uniform for somewhere cheap. (Sorry).

VodselForDinner · 19/08/2021 22:34

Dump the dress.

Keep the husband though.

Libraryghost · 19/08/2021 22:36

Loving the DH. I have to ask my Mum to get a brutally honest opinion. I bought a long white dress I was a bit iffy about and she asked me which hospital I had escaped from. Return!

Satansballsacks · 19/08/2021 22:38

OP, you are a great sport. And you're right to be sending it back!

I am reminded of a dress that I was absolutely in love with. When I finally bought it in the sales, I tried it on and demonstrated it to my Mum. She said it made me look like a monk.

I returned it.

CommanderBurnham · 19/08/2021 22:40

Yes. Don't worry OP. I bought a belt bag with purses attached. My children were really impressed 'Mum will you be working in a prison? With real criminals?? ' looked in the mirror again, and yes, I looked like something out of cell block H. It went back.

RiverSkater · 19/08/2021 22:41

I think it just needs to be styled differently, wider belt to accentuate your waist and high heels and some simple jewellery.

me4real · 19/08/2021 22:41

It looks nice on your top half but then not as nice lower down (I don't think it's you, it's the cut of the thing.) Yep good plan to send it back. The material doesn't look good either.

jozipozi31 · 19/08/2021 22:43

Omg omg omg 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈

You look like you are gorgeous underneath it but a dustbin bag is a dustbin bag!! Noo! No no no!

Bless him. He said it. He's a good husband.

spongedog · 19/08/2021 22:45

I'm very late to the party not being good at S&B. But I think as has already been said here the star of the show is DH - I love that he was brave and told you what he thought. That honesty is worth so much. And yes I agree with him - you clearly have a gorgeous figure and from the photo lovely hair too - that dress and the colour are not doing anything for you.

I love bright colours and had an epiphany the other day - I had thrown on a fairly new T shirt. Looked great upstairs then I caught a glance of myself in the downstairs mirror. Just yuk. Probably a style 20-30 years too young for me (I am mid-50s). I was quite shocked. I have been wondering what else in my wardrobe I am clinging onto or even worse buying new that simply no longer suits. So have managed a minor clearout but that shock remains.

FamBae · 19/08/2021 22:48

seen it online, It doesn't even look nice on the model to be honest.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 19/08/2021 22:49

Op you are a very good sport.

vixeyann · 19/08/2021 22:58

Sorry, it's not flattering. It's too big and sack like round the middle.

Maybe not the right style for you, but if you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?

Livelovebehappy · 19/08/2021 23:22

Very drab and matronly.

Givemebackmylilo · 19/08/2021 23:23

@MrsRobinsonsHandprints

Op you are a very good sport.
Couldn't agree more!
SamiReed1 · 19/08/2021 23:25

The style and cut is not flattering at all and looks 1940s matronly.

ozymandiusking · 19/08/2021 23:29

Take it back, you need something brighter.

margotnotrobbie · 19/08/2021 23:46

Maybe a wide belt to break it down a bit.

stevalnamechanger · 19/08/2021 23:46

It could do with a seamstress to make it fit you properly

DottySpottyZigzag · 20/08/2021 00:16

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-linen-blend-a-line-sleeveless-dress-426339COL09SMA005000.html

Try this instead OP. I live in these dresses! Very flattering

HauteGirlSummer · 20/08/2021 02:33

The dress does you absolutely no favours . Take it back. I wouldn't even bother to add a nice belt to it, not worth it imo.
DH is right.

Yaya26 · 20/08/2021 03:04

Sorry but the belt isn't good. Xx
