Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

I recommend a better bra that lifts you more (don't be afraid of a push up with big boobs, it transforms the silhouette), pull the waist band up slightly and tighten (with a belt of necessary) and roll up the sleeves. Then it'll work Smile

@NotAnotherUserNumber

Is that the Jigsaw cotton silk shirt dress? I really wanted that but they had sold out in my size.

Now reading that everyone else hates it makes me wonder if I had a lucky escape!

Yes, this one! Very cosy.....

It is pretty frumpy, I'm afraid.

Iamthewombat · 19/08/2021 21:38

Enough with the cosy. When you are 80 you can go ‘cosy’!

VenusTiger · 19/08/2021 21:42

The rope style belt is all wrong and isn't flattering to your shape.

Ignore what's on trend OP - wear what suits you. It's a bit black and bleak too - what about brown or navy instead.

OverweightPidgeon · 19/08/2021 21:42

I agree with @user97495 about a better bra , it makes a world of difference. The waist of the dress doesn’t sit right on your figure so doesn’t flatter you.

Oblomov21 · 19/08/2021 21:48

I'm so sorry but it is very unflattering. A total no no. You have a lovely figure and something else will look fab on you.

Disneycharacter · 19/08/2021 21:54

Hideous

MrsMaizel · 19/08/2021 21:55

Another no sorry.

Mischance · 19/08/2021 21:56

I'm with your OH - but if you like it then stick with it, as what you like is what matters.

Personally I would bin it.

Plumtree391 · 19/08/2021 22:03

Not a nice dress, sorry.

It looks like something a maid would wear at Downton Abbey.

lyntheyresexpeople · 19/08/2021 22:09

You have a gorgeous figure op Thanks
But I agree the dress isn't nice at all.

Bluntness100 · 19/08/2021 22:11

Yeah I’m with everyone else, that’s a really bad dress. Not sure I’ve seen something so unflattering and Ill fitting before.

CommanderBurnham · 19/08/2021 22:12

I think what your DH should have said is that that dress doesn't do your figure any justice.

steff13 · 19/08/2021 22:12

Frumpy and unflattering.

Cornishclio · 19/08/2021 22:13

I don't think those sort of dresses would flatter anyone with an hour glass figure especially in black. A wider belt or a dress which is fitted under the bust rather than the waist may be better and definitely in a different colour and maybe with shorter sleeves. Glad you have decided to send it back and I am sure you will find something better.

HollowTalk · 19/08/2021 22:17

I think it makes you look like a prison warder, OP! You look great, but the dress isn't flattering.

Givemebackmylilo · 19/08/2021 22:20

@KatyS36

Mmmm, smart dressing gown....
Haha I'm really sorry it just looks so comfy and practical for wandering around the house after a bath

Although appreciate this isn't the look you were aiming for

nancyclancy123 · 19/08/2021 22:21

It’s not the most flattering dress and looks a bit too big. With some bright tights and a chunky belt it might look better.

You have a great figure though, it’s just the dress!! Smile

Iamthewombat · 19/08/2021 22:22

I was thinking that hard case nun off Derry Girls but I can see where you are coming from.
Nixandwotsit · 19/08/2021 22:22

Op takes feedback on board and posts that she's going to return the dress. Was that around page 2?

Iamthewombat · 19/08/2021 22:25

Yes, and she’s subsequently shown herself to be a good laugh so the thread has continued.

Libraryghost · 19/08/2021 22:27

It’s not for you! Nothing wrong with you btw- it’s the dress. It’s a very unforgiving fit and would make most of us look a bit shapeless. Send it back and good on DH for being honest. Mine would just say ‘do you like it’

chaosmaker · 19/08/2021 22:28

I love that your husband gave you his honest opinion - that's real love :) Another one for send it back.

boogiewithasuitcase · 19/08/2021 22:31

The waistline needs to be higher and more defined, and the skirt more tapered, for it to show off your figure. Glad you are sending it back OP.
