Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

It's ok. Just ok

AlbertBridge · 19/08/2021 20:22

I like dresses (especially black ones) in that style. What I do is tie the skinny belt at the back, so it doesn't go round the front at all, but simply pulls the back of the dress together to give a more hourglass shape at the front.

Plus you need to shorten your bra straps, or get something a bit sturdier.

But I fully support sending it back.

BasiliskStare · 19/08/2021 20:23

@KatyS36 Am I alone ( & I can see I am ) with some nice shoes that dress could do a job at work ) Grin

RampantIvy · 19/08/2021 20:23

Well done for taking it on the chin. I'm with team MN and team DH.

Marriedtothesilverfox · 19/08/2021 20:24

Horrible, something that could be dragged out for funerals

Marriedtothesilverfox · 19/08/2021 20:25

Ps I’d kill to be an hourglass, stick with the fitted look

KatyS36 · 19/08/2021 20:25

Team dh, over 100!
Team Katy, less than 10!

Thanks for the lovely comments about my figure and about my dh 😊

Also, thanks for the accessorising comments. Would be helpful if it was the only dress I had and I desperately needed something , but fortunately not the case. Gave belts to charity shop once I discovered levis jeans that fitted property didn't need one!

Depending on the material, it does look like something that would be nice to wear once you've just got out the bath, almost a 'smart' dressing gown

Winterflower84 · 19/08/2021 20:28

To go to your local supermarket - yes, any farther- no.

ParistoLondon · 19/08/2021 20:28

You've got a lovely figure but this dress does nothing for you.

KateTheEighth · 19/08/2021 20:28

You just need a white apron and you could be a two soups waitress

You'd look so much better in something else OP

joystir59 · 19/08/2021 20:29

Dreadfully frumpy

moynomore · 19/08/2021 20:30

I'm with DH. Maybe with a thicker belt?

KatyS36 · 19/08/2021 20:31

Mmmm, smart dressing gown....

Doesn't flatter you at all, I'm sorry. You have a nice figure and you need something that flatters it!

AmyDudley · 19/08/2021 20:34

It doesn't flatter you - too black and sack like. Something a bit more fitted and with a bit more colour (not a solid colour) would be better.
Like you I have many times allowed excitement about a bargain over ride fashion sense Grin

I don't have a DH to put me right though - although my DD does her best (her comment on a very colourful skirt I bought in a sale 'has the circus come to town or is the elderly Russian peasant look back in fashion ?Grin)

Oddbutnotodd · 19/08/2021 20:36

You don’t suit black at all. Make you look bigger than you are.

spicychickenwing · 19/08/2021 20:36

I think its ok. But their are some dresses i can only wear with my best hoik em up bra and my m and s support tights. Id put this in the category if it were to wear it. As a result i wear different shape dresses in summer and winter as tights help a lot!

CrazyCatStory · 19/08/2021 20:36

@KatyS36 ohhh, which Levi’s jeans? I hate having to wear a belt with my jeans (and thus end up with the worlds biggest muffin top).

RampantIvy · 19/08/2021 20:36

You can't see the OP's figure on this dress.
RampantIvy · 19/08/2021 20:37

in this dress

Twatterati · 19/08/2021 20:37

Another one on team DH! You are SO LUCKY to have an hour glass shape so should definitely flatter that (which this dress doesn't!).

You need to enhance your boobs, hips and waist, and this dress hides all of those lovely parts.

It's the dress that is wrong though, not you, your shape is fantastic.

MasterChefz · 19/08/2021 20:37

I don't like it . You cannot see your figure .

Iamthewombat · 19/08/2021 20:38

COSY AND DOESN’T CREASE????

COSY AND DOESN’T CREASE?????????

Come on, OP! You are messing with our heads now. Really glad you are sending it back.

JeanneDoe · 19/08/2021 20:40

You have a great figure not unlike Kirstie Allsopp. That dress does nothing for you. You should look at the dresses she wears on LLL and get one of those. I think she said before she gets them in Liberty.
