Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

No no no!!!

Deffo shorter sleeves - a better bra too required and a thicker belt.

But you're right to send it back

tommyhoundmum · 19/08/2021 20:41

Not very flattering and won't make you happy when you wear it.

Tal45 · 19/08/2021 20:42

I think if it was a shirt it would look fine but the bottom half is really shapeless, lumpy and frumpy, like a sack.

Mindyourbusiness22 · 19/08/2021 20:42

I hope this doesn’t come across as harsh but that dress does absolutely nothing for you, hides your figure, send it back!

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 19/08/2021 20:45

Unless you're really young, knee-length shirt dresses tend to look as if you've forgotten to put on your trousers - as with Theresa May's. A midi length is much more flattering

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/08/2021 20:46

Sorry - it's awful and doesn't flatter you at all.

GrandmasCat · 19/08/2021 20:46

I have a similar one, I think I look slimmer without the belt so I just don’t use it.

Musmerian · 19/08/2021 20:47

I’m a similar shape to you but that’s really unflattering- as others have said the waist part fits badly and makes you look frumpy.

Skyla2005 · 19/08/2021 20:47

It does nothing for you

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 19/08/2021 20:49

You clearly have a nice shape OP but this isn't especially flattering. However, you should keep it if you like it and think you'll wear it, it's your opinion that matters, after all!

OnTheBoardwalk · 19/08/2021 20:50

Bet you’re glad you didn’t enable voting!

You’ve taken it with very good grace but this isn’t the dress you are looking for

Hugoslavia · 19/08/2021 20:57

I was expecting something hideous given the title. I actually really like it. I'm not sure how your DH can object really. There's nothing objectionable about it.

honeybuns007 · 19/08/2021 21:06

OP if you are an hourglass then this dress is awful as it makes you look like a potato. Seriously, rock your curves and kick this shapeless thing to the curb

Tallisimo · 19/08/2021 21:09

Sorry, but I think it would struggle to suit anyone!

AngryWhompingWillow · 19/08/2021 21:17

Awful dress. Sorry @KatyS36

NotAnotherUserNumber · 19/08/2021 21:22

Is that the Jigsaw cotton silk shirt dress? I really wanted that but they had sold out in my size.

Now reading that everyone else hates it makes me wonder if I had a lucky escape!

Claypotkitchentable · 19/08/2021 21:25

It’s awful and does nothing for you at all.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 19/08/2021 21:26

I’m on team DH. I don’t think it suits you at all, it’s just very saggy in the wrong areas.

If you want to keep it perhaps a belt to winch it in in the middle?

Allycott · 19/08/2021 21:26

I don't think this post is genuine. In what world is this a good look?

LowlandLucky · 19/08/2021 21:28

Sorry hiney but i am sure you would look gorgeous in another dress x

WetBench · 19/08/2021 21:29

I think under the dress you have a lovely figure but the dress doesn’t work sorry, team DH!

Brimorion · 19/08/2021 21:29

I think the issue is mostly that the waist of the dress doesn’t sit at the right place for your actual waist. I’m high-waisted and often have similar.

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 19/08/2021 21:32

It looks comfy but unkind to your figure, which would be better suited to something else

Grumpylate20s · 19/08/2021 21:34

If you wanted to wear a bin liner then sure but really hun, it does nothing for you. Team DH that man has taste let him choose next time you go shopping

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 19/08/2021 21:35

You have a great figure and I can imagine so many things you would look fantastic in but if there is one colour and one shape that you should never wear - this it it. It does absolutely nothing for you.
Chuck it and get something you look great in.
