Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

Blimey! No

Evidencebased · 19/08/2021 19:48

You look lovely.
The dress does not.

idontknowwhyibother · 19/08/2021 19:48

No it doesn't suit you I'm sorry. You'd kill a fitted type dress though!

pointythings · 19/08/2021 19:49

It's shapeless and dreary. Easy workwear doesn't have to be that bad, I'm with your DH.

newnortherner111 · 19/08/2021 19:50

If it's only for work and unless you are in marketing or somewhere full of hipsters who fret over such things, perfectly OK.

yesterdayisgone · 19/08/2021 19:52

Nope . Show off your hourglass figure with something else

Benjispruce5 · 19/08/2021 19:52

Try pulling in waist with a belt. A coloured belt maybe?

CharlotteRose90 · 19/08/2021 19:53

I think it makes you look bigger then you are sorry. I wouldn’t keep it.

RaisinRainbow · 19/08/2021 19:53

Sorry to say I agree with DH. It's not a good fit, you look frumpy and black is such a draining colour.

Perfect28 · 19/08/2021 19:55

Wear whatever you like. Clothes don't have to be flattering. When I go to work I have no desire to 'accentuate my shape'.

ZZGirl · 19/08/2021 19:56

If you cinched the waist with a belt, it'd look a lot better. Right now it's not flattering your figure.

godmum56 · 19/08/2021 19:56

sorry but I am with team DH on this. Its not flattering at all.

ColourMeExhausted · 19/08/2021 19:57

I have a similar shape to you OP and bought a similar dress. Like yours, it's cosy, doesn't crease...but the shape just doesn't flatter me. Such a shame as I really like the dress! Keeping it just in case I find the magic accessory to transform it. It does look better with a tight belt, maybe yours would too if you try a few?

Pollythecat15 · 19/08/2021 19:58

It's fine.
It's what you chose for yourself and what you feel comfortable in.
I don't see an issue with it at all.

mynameisbrian · 19/08/2021 19:59

Embrace your shape and dont buy ill fitting outfits. It makes you look bigger. You can get nicely fitting outfits that flatter your figure.
So I agree with your DH

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 19/08/2021 20:00

I'm with him. Shapeless OP. Throw it back. You can do better.

Audit · 19/08/2021 20:00

Can't believe the posters who think it looks black.

It is definitely blue or gold.

meadowbleu · 19/08/2021 20:00

DH steered you in the right direction. Glad it's going back because that dress has absolutely nothing to commend it.

Toooldforthis321 · 19/08/2021 20:01

OP, it's not a dead loss just yet. I have a similar style dress in maxi length and how I wear it makes a huge difference. Try pulling it in at the waist and not so flat against your chest. I also make sure I have a decent bra on. You'll lose some length on the dress (by pulling it in and up a bit on the top) but the top half will look completely different.

Blueskytoday06 · 19/08/2021 20:02

Seeing as tho you asked .....,I'm sorry but I don't like it x

ForestDad · 19/08/2021 20:02

Blessed be the fruit dear.

JulesCobb · 19/08/2021 20:02

I looks awful in the photo. Really unflattering. Would look better with a better bra and a belt.

Tubs11 · 19/08/2021 20:03

Great you're sending it back. Can tell you have a lovely figure and this dress is way too dowdy.

sabbii · 19/08/2021 20:04

not a fashion expert but it looks far too loose. maybe accessorise with a nice belt. It does look comfy though

Whybirdwhy · 19/08/2021 20:05

OP, I know you dress for yourself but you are lucky to have a DH that a) has a good eye and b) cares enough to look properly and tell you the truth! I have a DH the same and he's saved me from a bad outfit many a time! On the plus side, he's also helped me go with some fab outfits and accessories that I might not have chosen. So your dress might be a fail but your DH is a winner, well done! (And it's definitely the dress btw, you have a good figure)
