Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Hello,

New dress, sale bargain, cosy, doesn't crease(!). Asked dh for an option on which size was the most flattering, but he really dislikes it.

Now I dress for myself, dh is lovely (and to be fair I did ask his opinion) but it's given me a bit of a wobble.

It mainly for work, in a kind of chuck on and not worry about. Dh massively prefers my other dresses. I'm an hour glass size 16, and a lot of my dressed are more fitted, but I think they look a bit dated now.

I though this was an on trend and flattering day dress, but now I'm doubting myself.

Tags still attached, it can go back.

What do you think? I'm late 40s.

Dh hates my new dress, what do you think?

Yes I would have to agree with the general consensus. However you are so right that shirt dresses are having a moment! So I think don’t give up on the concept altogether, just see if you can find a different version of the trend. One with a thicker belt might be nice and in a different colour and material.

pilates · 19/08/2021 19:33

Op, you are brave posting and gracious in your response 😀

WorraLiberty · 19/08/2021 19:34

As others have said, it does nothing for your figure.

But it's very unlikely to suit any figure really.

MeredithGreyishblue · 19/08/2021 19:35

I'm sorry. I'm not a fan either.

Knittedfairies · 19/08/2021 19:35

Some dresses are in a sale for a reason OP...

Craftycorvid · 19/08/2021 19:35

You look like you have a great figure but that dress is concealing it rather than flattering it. It also looks a rather severe colour.

amusedbush · 19/08/2021 19:37

Yeah, it's a no from me too! As a pp said though, I really don't think it's anything to do with you, it's just not a great dress. It's a very strange cut and the proportions are all off. It would look like a sack on a Victoria's Secret Angel.

CrazyCatStory · 19/08/2021 19:37

Do you have a chunky belt in a bright colour? That might break it up a bit, and give it a bit more shape, but I’m not a huge fan as it is, sorry. Also, I find I look better in shirt dresses without using the thin belt on it, they hang better.

Hullaballoonexperience · 19/08/2021 19:38

I am with your husband! It isn’t flattering to your figure at all.

muddyford · 19/08/2021 19:38

Shirt dresses are lovely but this fabric looks too stiff and thick, all bunched beneath the belt. It also doesn't look quite long enough. I would take it back.

user1493494961 · 19/08/2021 19:38

I have to agree with everyone else.

JennieLee · 19/08/2021 19:39

I like black and wearing fairly plain stuff, but I think clothing of that sort only works when it's well cut and suits your body shape.

But I think if you like it and feel good in it, and feel it was a bargain then keep it...

KatyS36 · 19/08/2021 19:39

I've (virtually) achieved consensus in S&B 😂

Yes, it's very comfy!

Blondiney · 19/08/2021 19:39

You deserve a better dress than that.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 19/08/2021 19:40

It makes you look dumpy and shapeless, glad you're taking it back!

It might be on trend but that doesn't mean it's right for you. I've had a terrible few years with skinny jeans being so dominant as I have the worst shaped legs ever - I look like two fat parsnips have genetically mutated to grow a body, a bit like a parsnippy centaur I guess (but with two legs instead of four).

Eralos · 19/08/2021 19:40

It makes you look frumpy which I’m sure your not. It’s not very flattering. I’d send it back.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 19/08/2021 19:41

OP, I'm a skinny but curvy size 8 and I would look awful in that! It's definitely not your figure, it is absolutely the dress. I'm not sure how you tell your DH that he was right either though... Grin

LimeSodaTwist · 19/08/2021 19:41

If anything (and I don't like to sound unkind, but I know it could feel like it), it looks as though you're a 20-22 with spindly little arms, not an hourglass 16. Which I'm sure you aren't.

I was going to say the same thing. I’m an apple-shaped 20-22 and the dress makes you look as if you’re my size and proportions, which is obviously a long way from your actual figure!

KatyS36 · 19/08/2021 19:41

Also, thanks for the recommendations but I don't need a new dress. I do an online shop at the very end of sale to see if anything I love turns up at a bargain price.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 19/08/2021 19:43

When I’m looking at sale items I ask myself “would I pay full price for this” and if I wouldn’t then I don’t generally buy it.

It has saved me buying things that would end up gathering dust.

PoppyDotx · 19/08/2021 19:43

LTB and the B being the dress, it's not flattering. They'll be loads of lovely dresses that fit you nicely

LividLaVidaLoca · 19/08/2021 19:43

We have a similar figure. I’d try this on and will it to be right because it looks easy and comfy.

Everyone is right tho Blush

MrMeSeeks · 19/08/2021 19:43

Sorry im with dh.
Nothing to do with colour ( love black!) it’s simply not flattering

ShrikeAttack · 19/08/2021 19:45

Have you tried it with a decent bra, a wide belt, sleeves turned up and the collar 'popped'?

Worth a go!
