Can’t see a thread so I thought I’d start one. Yes, it’s unbelievably early, but I noticed Glossybox have already revealed their Advent Calendar contents for this year. Saw this reveal on YouTube this morning:

Have to say it doesn’t wow me, but there’s plenty of time and many more Advent Calendars to come, I’m sure! Grin

I’d like one with a posh candle or two, I’m drowning under little skincare samples and make up I’ll never wear, like weird highlighter abd bronzers. I’m far too blue-hued for the bronzer

Cocossponsor · 23/08/2021 19:03

Thank you for making this thread! I was watching last year but have made an account earlier this year. Last year I had the Ted Baker, Holland and Barrett, ASOS and John Lewis. JL was my favourite but this year I’ll be looking out for the Cult Beauty Advent.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 23/08/2021 20:16

@Coniferhedge

Can I just say I’m so glad people are enjoying this thread. I was unsure about starting it. I thought I might get my head bitten off by people saying it was too early! Personally I love Christmas and the run up to it with Halloween and Bonfire Night, so all this speculation about advent calendars just adds to it for me. I lead a very boring life..…!Grin
Thank you for starting it! The advent calendar threads are always fun...never too early.

What are people's hero and villian products in a calendar? I always love skincare - day or night creams, serums etc, and have a soft spot for the weird stuff that pops up in the H&B calendar like the face vinegar and charcoal toothpaste. I love body products too - soap, body lotion, bath stuff. Oh and perfume.

I hate getting black eyeliners (obvs), eye cream (at the last count I had 4 unopened ones and at least on the go Blush) and shampoo as I don't use it. Things like mirrors, nail files etc are a not very exciting but often very useful.

MidnightMeltdown · 23/08/2021 21:24

@IToldYouIWasFreaky

I'm similar to you. I like to stock up on fancy versions of useful products that I use everyday - face creams, serum, face wash, makeup remover, bath and body products. I also like a good mascara and some hair care products to try.

I'm less enthusiastic about eye creams, face masks, and face oils as I have loads.

Dud items for me are jade rollers, eye shadow pallets, highlighters, pulse point oils, and of course, the dreaded black eyeliner!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 24/08/2021 00:27

I think this is probably the most boring advent calendar ever.

AnnieSnap · 24/08/2021 00:36

I wish REN did one. I use (love) their products for my daily skin care and their hand cream is the best I’ve ever used (really moisturising, but with no sticky finish). It would be great to have an advent calendar to introduce other products in their range.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 24/08/2021 07:11

Idle receiving full size day cream of night cream, mascara, high bed make up (but then colours are often an issue), I don't mind an eyeliner as it means I don't need to buy one, same with eye cream, I don't like mini skincare much, I don't mind an accessory like a headband or nice brush, I like a bath bomb... but it also depends on the brand and how much I paid for the calendar

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 24/08/2021 08:28

Meant to say I like receiving...

Betsy88 · 24/08/2021 08:49

Mystery product in the Space NK calendar is apparently a lip and cheek colour from Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s new make up range (not her M&S stuff!). I don’t feel very excited by that.

Roll on the Liberty and Cult Beauty content reveals!

wheresmyshoe · 24/08/2021 09:35

Thank you @Betsy88 that's a bit underwhelming for me. Look forward to Liberty and CB reveals.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 24/08/2021 10:24

Not an advent calendar and I couldn't link it but next has a Nars set with full size blush, full size lip balm, full size eye primer plus mini mascara, mini lip pencil and possibly a bronzer for £40

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 24/08/2021 10:24

Thought it was a good deal

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 24/08/2021 10:26

haha! Yeah, I think you are right. I mean Invisibobbles are great and all but a whole calendar of them?! I forsee a LOT of those being in the January sales Grin
latedecember1963 · 24/08/2021 10:31

Things I've hone onto buy after getting them in a calendar include M & S ultimate sleep creme, Eyeko mascara, Rituals shower gels, Percy & Reed wonderbalm, Wow volumising/shine spray.
Like others, I'm not a fan of the ubiquitous black eyeliner. I've never been brave enough to try the Liquid Gold as the idea of an acid sounds a bit scary, but I know others rave about it.

latedecember1963 · 24/08/2021 10:34

That Next set does sound good, Bunny.
I like the Next own brand nail polishes for durability for the price.

That sounds good value, I've just bought new NARS lipgloss, lip pencil and eye primer when I wanted the CB GWP otherwise I would have been tempted by this!
FredaFox · 24/08/2021 10:52

How did I miss this thread?!
I've been thinking of advent calendars for weeks!
I also don't want eyeko, luxe, REN tonic, funnily enough don't recall getting Avant but will look in my stock cupboard

I always had M&S and it was always the best thread, last year had LF and Feel unique, also had loccitane, grazia and asos before

Never tried a top end one before, wondering wether to splash out

MidnightMeltdown · 24/08/2021 10:58

Agreed. I'm not a fan of lip and cheek products. There's something that feels a bit unhygienic about them to me. I also don't like cream products on my cheeks.

I like Trinny London products. I really rate them, but I steer clear of her lipsticks and lip to cheek products as I don’t like applying lipstick with my fingers. As you say, it feels unhygienic to me and also it makes me feel like a five year old playing with Mummy’s make up. And however hard I try I can’t get a decent crisp lip line with my finger. I end up looking like Robert Smith of The Cure.

I love a cream blush, but have a few already. And just generally unenthused by a RHW make up line. Thought the ‘surprise’ product might be something more exciting!

Viviennemary · 24/08/2021 11:23

I dont like early Christmas threads. But advent calendars are exempt. I love reading about them.

Nanasueathome · 24/08/2021 12:03

Just a ‘heads up’ to you all
I pre ordered the Fortnum and Mason advent calendar, due October, and they have already charged me for it
It had better be worth it!!!!!!!!!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 24/08/2021 12:13

This is the Nars set

Carboncheque · 24/08/2021 12:31

I’m waiting for the Liberty one. It’s on sale from midnight on Wednesday October 6th.

MidnightMeltdown · 24/08/2021 13:37

@Coniferhedge

You've made me want to try Trinny London now!
