Oh dear God help me. My first date in 18 years!

I am going on a DATE. I am 50, newly single and I need help to get ready!!!

It’s next Sunday, we are going around a gallery/stately home type place. I have never met him in real life and my confidence has just ebbed away!

I’m 5’8” very too heavy size 18 and blonde. I have good hair, a nice face and then it starts to go meh the further down I go.

So far I think I’ve settled on a maxi dress with a small sleeve, bit of cleavage at the front, but not sure about footwear. Or anything else for that matter. I’ve got one good hoik-em-up bra.

Help. I really don’t want him to be horrified and leg it. I mean, I know he’s a nice person and that’s unlikely but, well, you know...

3 hours was way too much time wasted on a first date. You could have discovered he wasn’t interested with a thirty minute coffee. As much as you sound like you have a good sense of humour and you’re amusing people on this thread, being so keen and forward will generally only lead to men from OLD treating you like crap. I can’t imagine you felt very good after his dismissive comments. He knows quite well what he’s saying calling you cuddly and telling you he’s too busy ‘relaxing’ is code for ‘you’re not a priority’. Never say ‘Call me’. It’s not cute and light it’s the opposite. Men don’t need to be told to call you.

Gosh @Itsbeen84yearss that’s very useful to know! He was interesting and we talked a lot so the time flew! So the one tomorrow, you think I should only give him 30 mins? He’s driving hours to get there! And what if I like him? Have chatted on the phone for an hour too.

I only gave one hour max if they were taking me for a drink / coffee regardless of their travel time. One to two hours if lunch was involved. Two to three hours if it was a proper dinner date. Liking them had no bearing on it. OLD is a numbers game. 90 percent of your dates will not be even close to a match

I took another approach, arranged brief dates if they asked about length, but otherwise kept it vague.

Once I had briefly chatted if it was a no from me, I could get out quickly (e.g. feel tired or need to pick up a DC in 30 min), if a potential match I could stay longer.

An enjoyable date for a few hours isn't wasted time, it's all practice.

I might have mentioned this before but dipping your toe in to old is a steep learning curve.
I am impressed that you are getting men out on dates, I have not managed one in forever and no I am not a minger :)
In the days when I was more popular I did tend to meet my dates in the same couple of places and yes I did wonder if the staff noticed, who cares?
I have always gone for quick dates, usually a coffee in daylight even if it is in a bar. I have been known to get through two in a day, but those days seem to be long gone.

Just another thing as well, always chat on the phone first, saves a lot of wasted time if you do not click. If they then mention a meet up you have the option of going ahead or simply saying you'll get back to them to arrange. Or simply be harsh....

I used to! The waiter in my favourite cafe knew my order without asking me, I went there so many times with various 'date zeros'. I'd meet for coffee, that gives leeway for extending the date if it's going well, or needing to get away if it wasn't.

Right then! The dating dress gets another run out! Might do another glycolic peel thing tonight even though it hurts. Not sure about the teeth whitening again. That proper twatted.

Tbh you will come to realise that same people are on both the free and paid sites. Many are on multiple sites.

God I don’t know where they get the energy.
