Oh dear God help me. My first date in 18 years!

I am going on a DATE. I am 50, newly single and I need help to get ready!!!

It’s next Sunday, we are going around a gallery/stately home type place. I have never met him in real life and my confidence has just ebbed away!

I’m 5’8” very too heavy size 18 and blonde. I have good hair, a nice face and then it starts to go meh the further down I go.

So far I think I’ve settled on a maxi dress with a small sleeve, bit of cleavage at the front, but not sure about footwear. Or anything else for that matter. I’ve got one good hoik-em-up bra.

Help. I really don’t want him to be horrified and leg it. I mean, I know he’s a nice person and that’s unlikely but, well, you know...

Oh, thank you Shuffle! I’m very happy for you. Are you sticking with separate houses etc? While I suspect it might be hard to navigate I think that’s my best bet for the next few years, after a rather difficult experience of cohabiting with a somewhat narcissistic and abusive man for the last few years. Having separated in February I still don’t feel quite over it but I’m hoping that OLD will be a pleasant distraction rather than demoralising and depressing…

My preparations and ‘toilette’(!) are severely hampered due to currently living in a caravan while my house is renovated - I had planned on enforced celibacy and reflection but the darkening evenings are just too dull! Plus, I need access to a shower and this might just be the best way. For tonight I’m going to brush my teeth especially well at the garden tap, just in case!

Teeny update from me!

All still good with my Mr. Curly!

He took me abroad to meet his old college mates who live Very Far From Anywhere and we had a wonderful time, for which I invested in an enormous knee length down-filled coat. He bought me two packs of Nordic socks, as I’m always cold, so I’ve had to buy bigger boots to accommodate them but I was toasty. I’ve

And we are just back from Abroad-del-sol where I met his dad, who never comes back to England. His Dad is famously difficult and cantankerous but he likes me and at the airport we had a big squeeze and he said “you’re lovely. I’m so happy he’s found you.” He was very sweet and it was lovely to see him unfurl from being a bit grumpy to actually, a bit of a giggler!
I also set up his new phone so he can do FaceTime with the rest of the family, and some voice activated stuff, so he’s very pleased.

My Mr. Curly excelled himself though this weekend. It’s too outing to say exactly what he did, but it was basically finding a thing for my eldest teen, bringing it home and entirely refitting it for him. We could never have afforded to have bought The Thing from new and yet Mr. Curly worked tirelessly for hours and hours, all for my boy, who is very very happy. In the process he managed to split his trousers so I did very good Wifing and patched him up neatly.

We have had a Serious Talk. I said I don’t want to get married and I don’t really want us to move in together, but I DO want something sort of official even if it’s just between us two, and I feel funny sometimes with no rings on. That’s about as far as I’m prepared to go, and he laughed and has been calling himself my “future husband” since. I could not be happier!

little update from me! All is still very well indeed with Mr. Curly! We started an enterprise/business together and that’s ticking over very nicely and we work really well as a team. We still laugh loads, he’s still the sexiest man on the planet, and I still get butterflies when he kisses me!

Work circumstances have meant he is here more than ever but we still have our own spaces which we both love. We have done a lot of travelling and eating, and are very happy just being in each other’s orbit.

Familiarity is creeping in but I find it very funny. He said the other morning “oh god don’t squeeze me, I need a poo!” Ohhhh the romance!

We are going on a Big Posh Holiday soon so I’ll get to see him in his (handmade) dinner suit. Nom!
