Oh dear God help me. My first date in 18 years!

I am going on a DATE. I am 50, newly single and I need help to get ready!!!

It’s next Sunday, we are going around a gallery/stately home type place. I have never met him in real life and my confidence has just ebbed away!

I’m 5’8” very too heavy size 18 and blonde. I have good hair, a nice face and then it starts to go meh the further down I go.

So far I think I’ve settled on a maxi dress with a small sleeve, bit of cleavage at the front, but not sure about footwear. Or anything else for that matter. I’ve got one good hoik-em-up bra.

Help. I really don’t want him to be horrified and leg it. I mean, I know he’s a nice person and that’s unlikely but, well, you know...

Just remember that you are newly single so theres no pressure to jump into anything else. Infact, probably best to just enjoy being single for a while. Not to say that cant involve going on a few dates with some hotties of course!

You know, even if it comes to nothing it’s perked me up and made me take a bit more internet in my appearance etc which is long overdue after lockdown.

Good luck, but as you are newly single and I assume ready to date it will seem very exciting but do not get too carried away in your first venture. I hope you are one of the lucky ones.

I have bought:
Eyelash curlers
A new mascara
A new primer that’s a bit green
Posh conditioner
A new denim jacket
Tooth whitening toothpaste
New contact lenses.
And, having taken NLP type advice, a special new perfume which is just for dates!

I’m 50, not 15, I should point out!

Wear flat trainers or shoes in case he is not very tall. Matching undies lovely. Nails done, new foundation too. Maybe some nice earrings. Just remember if you make yourself look really hot he will expect you to look like that all of the time. If you eat no carbs at all until Saturday you would probably lose another 3 lbs. Drink loads of water and eat fruit. Have a wonderful time. If you get nervous a good tip is to ask him about himself so switch focus on to him.

Got my flats at the ready! He says his height is about 6” more than mine so that’s ok. Ok no carbs till weekend. Omg I’m excited!

I took my first date after 18 years with exH seriously. It was OK and we ended up dating for a few months, but then I learned to get through them more quickly to get to weed out frogs unavailable men.

At one point I set up a few dates on the same day as date 1 is really date 0 and should be a low key chat. I always stopped chatting to other men if I was really interested in one man. The OLD thread recommends more than one iron at a time and it does speed things up.

I'm now 3 years with my lovely partner courtesy of POF!

Your plan sounds good. Some flat, white trainers that are all the rage and maybe a well cut denim jacket with the dress? Nails done, maybe a blow dry and you’ll feel a million dollars. Well done!

Ok the foundation garment has arrived, as has a posh conditioner. Going to have a try on later tonight and then commence some hair removal. What’s the deal about that these days? We were taught that naice gals only shave below the knee but I think the backs of my thighs might be a bit hirsute too.

Got some tooth whitening stuff too which I’m hoping doesn’t give me a reaction. Got it off tinternet so it could be Harpic in a gum shield for all I know.

And finally have dropped 1lb so hopefully another couple by Sunday!

Now, for all this excitement, he’s VERY quiet this week, to the point that I had a bit of a crisis and posted on the dating thread, thinking he was going to blow me out but I texted to see if we are still on and he replied straightaway with date and time - but then nothing!

But as has previously been pointed out, this is all good anyway as it’s sorting out my dating “trousseau” as it were, and there’s another chap that’s also interested and is much keener but doesn’t seem to have the same slightly loopy sense of humour as this one.
