Do you shower and not wash your hair?

Ideally my hair is in best condition being washed once or twice a week but I'm finding it really hard to shower more often than that because it's so long and thick and goes frizzy with the humidity.

How do you all cope. Do you shower just when you're washing your hair or more? If so, how?

Wrap my hair in a microfibre towel then shower my body, obviously try and keep my head out of the spray.
Sometimes I only shower every other day (which I know is a Mumsnet crime) as it dries my skin out too much.

Shower cap

UnaOfStormhold · 03/08/2021 10:02

Shower caps specifically for long/thick hair are great - easy to put on, don't squish the hair and don't get hair damp round the edges.

ElspethFlashman · 03/08/2021 10:35

😭😭😭 So jealous of people who can actually shower without washing their hair! Not something a greaseball would be likely to experience.

I hate the drudgery of showering and I'm sure it's because I see it as this dutiful daily hairwash chamber.

Deathraystare · 04/08/2021 09:49

Shower cap. Shower every day. Wash hair 1-2 times a week. In the sticky heat I also used dry shampoo.

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/08/2021 09:57

I once tried the plastic shower cap provided by a hotel I was staying in. Dh said I looked ‘efficient’ 😂

eurochick · 04/08/2021 10:06

I shower every day but wash hair every other day. I use a shower cap if not washing hair. Experiment with different types if you find your hair is frizzing.

Hair up in a scrunchie and a fat wide towelling head band on the hairline.

northernstars · 04/08/2021 11:58

Shower cap. On hair washing days I do it over the bath as my hair is falling out and I don't like the feel of it in the shower.

Miseryisabutterfly · 04/08/2021 12:00

Shower cap?!

starfishmummy · 04/08/2021 12:15

Hair tied back with or without a shower cap. I always direct shower to miss my head as well.

TiredButDancing · 04/08/2021 12:19

My hair is quite short so I wash it more often but aim for every second day only. On non wash days, I tend to run my wet hands through it before I get out the shower and then do a quick blast with the hair dryer - I find that peps it up. When it was longer, I wouldn't get it wet at all but might de-steam it with the hair dryer and then use straighteners very lightly to defrizz it. Would that work for you?

LittleMissPlant · 04/08/2021 18:10

I shower daily and wash my hair once a week.

nappysan · 04/08/2021 19:43

Is anyone else shocked by all this?
Showering everyday is a minimum, usually shower twice in summer and shower and bath in evening if weather cooler.
My long hair needs washing every second day or sometimes everyday.
I overheard a joke once… where do you hide a £10 note from a British person?
Under the soap

TeanupFlutter · 04/08/2021 20:01

UnaofStormhold please can you recommend one for longer hair, I've never come across one before. Sounds like a game changer, I always get the hairline frizz as all my hair only just fits in the cap... Thanks.

happymummy12345 · 04/08/2021 21:18

I have quite long naturally curly hair that is quite frizzy. I wash it every 3 days. On days when I'm not washing it I just don't get my head wet. It's never been a problem at all.

I usually wear my hair in a ponytail or in butterfly clips. If I've previously straightened it I just go over it again. If not it's up in a clip anyway so makes no difference

I guess it depends on how sweaty you get but I’d think most people only need to shower once a day. Twice is extravagant unless you’re filthy. Not good if you’re somewhere that needs to conserve water or is drought prone. And what about areas where you’re only permitted a 3 minute shower?
ThorIsAGod · 05/08/2021 05:39

Wear a woolly hat under a shower cap. Makes a huge difference! I look ridiculous but don't care 🤣

FullMoonInsomnia · 05/08/2021 05:43

I shower every day and use a shower cap when not washing hair. I wash my hair every three days or so.

Changechangychange · 05/08/2021 21:35

@nappysan literally everybody on this thread has said they shower every day. They just don’t always wash their hair. Hair does not need washing every day.

PolytheneRam · 05/08/2021 21:35

Washing my hair is the main reason I shower. Wouldn't a strip wash do the same thing otherwise?

DingoDollar · 05/08/2021 21:55

My shower is a rainfall so I can't really avoid it.

So have a shower cap. I always buy the most comical I can find.

fiorentina · 05/08/2021 23:06

As I exercise frequently I have to wash my hair every day. I like the smell of fresh hair though too, so even if I don’t it usually gets washed and left to dry naturally.
