Do you shower and not wash your hair?

Ideally my hair is in best condition being washed once or twice a week but I'm finding it really hard to shower more often than that because it's so long and thick and goes frizzy with the humidity.

How do you all cope. Do you shower just when you're washing your hair or more? If so, how?

I shower most days and only wash my hair once or twice a week. It's short hair so no problem, but if it was long I would wear a shower cap - that's what they are for.

Ozberry · 02/08/2021 20:42

High bun and don’t put my head under

Ohpulltheotherone · 02/08/2021 20:42

Shower cap, then if the humidity has got to me a little bit I quickly blast with hairdryer when I style it, like 2 mins with a bit of hair oil.

CrystalMaisie · 02/08/2021 20:43

Handheld shower hose attachment option with a hook that’s at shoulder height, and hair under a shower hat.

MaMelon · 02/08/2021 20:46

I have a pink spotty shower cap - wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week, shower every day.

Onelifeonly · 02/08/2021 20:50

Shower cap. Use hairdryer or straighteners if hair goes frizzy.

gymbummy · 02/08/2021 20:53

If you can't find a shower cap, a pair of thick tights on your head tied at the top also works well to avoid frizz. There is the slight disadvantage of looking completely mad

Dasher789 · 02/08/2021 20:57

I definitely look hilarious but I wear a T-shirt upside down on my head as a turban. I don’t have a shower cap and using a towel is too big. My hair gets frizzy too so I couldn’t have nothing on my head.

cornflakelife · 02/08/2021 21:02

@Crazylifewithlabs this is what I needed to hear. I'm sure it frizzes up Monica style just stepping in the bathroom. Shower cap seems to just make it worse.

@RunningFromInsanity

Yes, I use shower cap- it’s what they are for!
Same! It’s not a thing of beauty but it works! And I don’t put my head directly under the shower.
LauraFlashley · 02/08/2021 21:08

Yes, just use a shower cap.

I buy the plastic ones online. You get about 1000 for £1.20 or something ridiculous. I reuse them so I still have about 996 left.

Girlintheframe · 02/08/2021 21:15

Shower cap for me too.

Shower daily but wash hair once a week. It goes very frizzy with humidity so don't take the shower cap off until I'm dried, dressed and outside the bathroom!

WetBench · 02/08/2021 21:17

Shower cap and daily shower

Changechangychange · 02/08/2021 21:19

You can get your hair wet without shampooing it! I either use conditioner, or just get it wet and scrunch with oil/gel to set it again. Shampoo once a week.

DameCelia · 02/08/2021 21:21

@cornflakelife
An ordinary shower cap still means frizzy hair for me.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a Shhhowercap. Cost a fortune but completely airtight, essential for afro hair ime.

LidlMiddleLover · 02/08/2021 21:21

No shower with hairwash at least once a day Never shower without what would be the point in doing half a job

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 02/08/2021 21:21

I shower daily and wash my hair every 3 days ish. I just put it up and don't have any issues.

I have long curly hair.

You could use a shower cap...

joystir59 · 02/08/2021 21:23

Shower every day, wash hair once a week-ish. Hair too dry and lifeless otherwise.

Nitgel · 02/08/2021 21:23

I use a shower cap when I have a bath and shower and when I wash my face. They're fab but not as well made as they used to be

MellowBird85 · 02/08/2021 21:24

@goose1964

I have a flamingo showercap
Best MN comment of the day.
Peoniesandpeaches · 02/08/2021 21:40

@Hissysnake

My hair is naturally curly, so I wet it everyday to scrunch the curls up anyway. If I straighten it, I just touch it up with the straighteners if it's got wet in the shower.

I can't believe this is something people find hard. 😕

I bought a shower cap lined with terry cloth after one too many times of the towel inadvertently hitting the water but I agree that you need something towelling to tackle the humidity
bigbaggyeyes · 02/08/2021 21:40

I shower every day but wash my hair 2/3 times a week. Just put my hair up and use an angled shower head rather than one that comes straight down from the ceiling

TheOrigRights · 02/08/2021 21:46

I do usually end up washing my hair every day because when I swim or run it needs a wash. I might get away with not washing it when I bike depending on how warm it is and sometimes in the winter my hair is OK after a run, too.

Sometimes I'll just get it wet and condition it rather than a full shampoo.
I spend much of my life with wet or big hair! But I have worked from home for years, it looks fine tied back wet.

When I'm not washing it I use a shower cap.
