@ToastCosILoveIt

PS, I haven't had a catalogue: what catalogue?!
Or me. What special kind of Toast customer is getting them?
ilovecherries · 27/08/2021 18:33

blossomtoes, they probably have a complex algorithm that enables them to target those of us with the least self control!

ilovecherries · 27/08/2021 18:39

@bellaiceberg

I mentioned buddycat66 in a thread ai started today on dresses, etc, as I love her style!

don't think it went down well.

I wonder if us toasties are a curious and misunderstood minority Grin

Oh, I think we are a misunderstood minority indeed. Which kind of suits me - I’d hate Toast to be like H&M and see the clothes everywhere. Although one can get carried away - after an hour with the new magazine, I was having vision of myself wafting about an allotment in a toast dress and wellies, before cycling home with my organic carrots to find a nourishing stew in the Aga. The reality: don’t like gardening beyond sitting in it admiring some carefully curated tubs, wellies kill my feet, I’m terrified of cycling on a road, and I have a teeny kitchen with no room for an Aga. Ho hum. I do like carrots though.

@Gonegrey31

I haven’t had a catalogue either , boo My Ruffle neck shirt has come and is going back . Buttoned up it is too constricting, and looks odd unbuttoned. Lovely blue colour though .
That’s a shame, it is an absolutely gorgeous colour. I just can’t do neck ruffles though - to much norkage, too short neck.
NoCureForLove · 27/08/2021 19:22

I tried it in in a rl shop and lsughed out loud at my reflection in the changing room mirror. I looked like an elderly toddler...

ScottishMouse · 27/08/2021 20:33

I tried a ruffle neck shirt last season and had much the same reaction. Short neck and boobs do not work with a ruffle. I loved the fabric and considered buying it and removing the ruffle, but never did in the end. The models often make me think I can carry things off that I really really can’t.

ScottishMouse · 27/08/2021 20:36

So I sent the denim jerkin back at the start of the week, but I can’t stop thinking about it. Has anyone happened across any photos of it on Instagram or elsewhere? I’d like to see other everyday styling ideas that involve trousers and regular length tops (rather than the long shirt of the styling video). I’d love to see how buddycat66 would style it!!! 🤣

Gonegrey31 · 27/08/2021 20:39

I think the Ruffle neck shirt would look fabulous on someone tall with a swan neck. This I am not !

I do delude myself sometimes when ordering....

Countmeout · 28/08/2021 11:58

I think I saw a picture of the jerkin looking nicely styled @ScottishMouse

Do anyone north of Watford understand jerkin to be a zip up cardigan? My father called his that? Just out of interest.

Here’s the cord skirt. With my Francis T.
Needs a tuck in I think. As I said I downsized so it’s quite snug but enough gathering for me. It’s very comfortable. Will wear with boots in winter. Defo not weighty if you see weighty as an indicator of warmth. Colour is lovely. I was worried it would be a bit muddy as I find what it looks like online sometimes a bit disappointing in the flesh but it’s a really nice green. Have plenty to go with it.

That is lovely @countmeout
Does it stretch a bit? I would size down but have hips ( pear shape) looks really gorgeous.

neveradullmoment99 · 28/08/2021 12:01

I mean would I get it on by wide hips lol!

Blossomtoes · 28/08/2021 12:06

@neveradullmoment99

Pull it on over your head! That’s the beauty of a skirt, you can put it on either way. It looks better on a person than on the Toast site.
neveradullmoment99 · 28/08/2021 12:12

You know, that is very true!🤣

ScottishMouse · 28/08/2021 12:17

I had never heard the word jerkin before @Countmeout. Though I am reading Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell at the moment and there is much chat of jerkins in it!

The cord skirt looks lovely on you, much nicer than on the hanger.

Nanasueathome · 28/08/2021 12:19

I saw the vibrant check dress in Cheltenham last week and it’s in my basket at the moment
I may also ‘need’ the harlequin dress

ilovecherries · 28/08/2021 13:16

A jerkin to me is a lightweight zip up jacket. What toast calls a jerkin is a waistcoat. IMHO 😆

Nanasueathome · 28/08/2021 13:32

My toast catalogue came this morning

Countmeout · 28/08/2021 13:36

Thanks @neveradullmoment99 and @ScottishMouse and think it stretches quite well. But I have boobs not hips and @Blossomtoes suggestion doesn’t usually work for me. I ordered an 8 (no way am I an 8) because I have 8 in Gabis and like the fit. I also had sized down in the check culottes from last year and it definitely means there’s less fabric.

I thought possibly jerkin was a Scottish word @ScottishMouse. I’ve looked it up now and in Shakespeare’s day it was like a waistcoat but longer than the Toast version and worn by men. Are you enjoying Hamnet? I really like Maggie O’Farrell.
Here’s the look I thought worked well with the jerkin. I think you need small boobs for it though.

There are some sizes of the elusive Tala dress back on the Toast website if anyone is still pining for it.

Countmeout · 28/08/2021 13:45

Sorry total fail

What a lovely look. And what green fingers you have!

Countmeout · 28/08/2021 14:04

Instagram @Blossomtoes.one of the Toast posts.
I kill plants 🤣

ScottishMouse · 28/08/2021 14:07

Thanks @Countmeout, the jerkin/waistcoat does look nice styled like that. It looks longer than I felt it looked on me and I am very short. I may try it again.
I am an honorary Scot, though I have been here a looooong time. I have never heard the word here or in Ireland where I’m originally from.
Loving Hamnet. I have read all her other books but hesitated to read this as I wondered if it was my kind of thing. But it’s great!

ScottishMouse · 28/08/2021 14:09

Had an annoying Toast delivery today. I ordered the graphic yoke sweater that I tried in store in the smaller size. I ordered both colours to choose one. The cinnamon colour doesn’t suit me, but the size was perfect. But the same size in the dark brown was so much bigger, and way too wide. I measured them against each other and there is about 4 inches difference in width and about 2 inches difference in the arm width. So annoying. Not sure if I should bother trying another order to see if I can get one that fits right though. Harrumph.
