Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 26/06/2021 10:18

Conspicuous consumption.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 26/06/2021 10:19

My pet hate is a sensible black handbag that is clearly worn with every outfit, especially with an anorak.
Has it not occurred to you that some women can't afford to buy multiple handbags /other bags to ensure they have one which goes with every outfit? Or maybe they don't have room in their home to store multiple handbags?

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 10:20

@TheVolturi

Those sports leggings that look sprayed on, worn with a short top so you can see the whole bum cheeks.
I see so much of this on people whose backsides move so much when they walk they’d have someone’s eye out if they were too close. I don’t get it. I can only think they don’t care or don’t own two mirrors to investigate what’s going on behind them.
MareofBeasttown · 26/06/2021 10:20

Children's TV presenter clothes on adults. Like dungarees. Esp Lucy and Yak. ( runs for cover).

I am saying this is a thread designed to poke fun at poorer women’s style.

It's definitely not only poorer women that do these things!

Agreed. It's not about being poor, it's taste. Carol Vorderman is a good example. Just too much everything.

WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 10:24

So what do you suggest women are allowed to wear to exercise if not sports leggings @justanotherneighinparadise ?

Or is there a buttock size limit which renders dressing appropriately for exercise acceptable?

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 10:25

Carol Vorderman’s mentality is interesting as I suspect this was someone who was expected to be very conservative in her early years and as a young adult and now her mother has passed and her kids are grown she just no longer gives a shit what people think. I quite admire it.

This has obviously hit a nerve with you but for me and my own backside I would wear such trousers with an arse skimming top. It’s not difficult. I own quite a few of them. It just requires two mirrors to check out ones rear view and the desire to not embarrass yourself in public.
Etinox · 26/06/2021 10:28

@Jahebejrjr

I am just enjoying the spectacle of watching posters tie themselves in knots trying to think of as many middle-class fashion ‘misdemeanours’ as possible.
Have we done red trousers? I don’t like words on clothes or joggers apart from doing sports. Although I immediately get into loungewear when I come home Blush
WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 10:29
@WaltzingBetty what the hell are you talking about? Stereotypes? I see it differently. A bunch of people living the life they want to live and wearing the clothes and make-up they want to wear. Extraordinary that on a thread like this you pick me to attack about stereotyping. I am working-class too. Don’t have fillers, fake tan or whatever else people choose to do, but I dislike my friends who do being looked down upon for their choices .
Well you're the only person claiming that those things are representative of the working classes and clinging to stereotypes in order to try and make this a class argument.

They aren't representative of the working class, not all of us dress like that, it isn't our 'culture' Hmm and yes it can look naff

I grew up in a pit village and now work in a university town. There are plenty of naice MC students who over/contour and have fake lashes and long nails. Just as there are plenty of my WC pals who don't do any of those things. Stop trying to make this a class issue when it isn't

stevalnamechanger · 26/06/2021 10:32

@Victoriantiles

I’ve never had fillers but there is a page on Instagram called consultant clinic, they are all trained doctors and their work is amazing and if I were to have anything like that done I’d go to one of their clinics.

I think the overfilled look most people think of is from when people go to their local hairdressers and get it done by someone who’s been on a day course.

LOL read their TRUSTPILOT ...

Lots off less that perfect reviews , wouldn't touch

WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 10:33

If by hit a nerve you mean 'I dislike women sneering at other women for dressing appropriately to exercise' then you are correct.

I'd suggest if you need to examine yourself from multiple angles in multiple mirrors before setting off for a run you have bigger issues than just being judgemental.

Also please to link me to the bottom-covering exercise tops that you wear so we all have a chance of meeting your requirements.

I won't hold my breath. I expect that you're judging other women for not wearing a product that doesn't actually exist

WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 10:33

That was to @justanotherneighinparadise

edie89 · 26/06/2021 10:34

I actually really like my lip filler, I don't think everyone goes overboard with it! It's boosted my confidence!

Dirty fake tan lines and bad contour for me

My pet hate is a sensible black handbag that is clearly worn with every outfit I don't have money to waste on loads of different coloured handbags when one does the job.

Jacobdrums · 26/06/2021 10:36

Great for you if you like it. It's obviously 'done' and looks fake but if that's the look you're going for that really doesn't matter!

wowhie · 26/06/2021 10:37

I don't think this thread is about shaming. I dislike filler but @edie89 if you're happy with it than that's what matters. I love fake tan! 😆

Some of us wouldn't touch Primark with a barge pole.

wowhie · 26/06/2021 10:41

padded gilets

WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 10:41

So no link to an acceptable sports top then
@justanotherneighinparadise ?

Surely it's in your interest to share your expertise in acceptable sportswear and save your oddly-positioned buttock-level eyeballs?

Oh give over. Who, in these days of Primark - not to mention charity shops and EBay - can’t afford more than one, black handbag? This look is usually sported by women wearing decent quality anoraks, too, which are not cheap. As for storage space, how much space do two or three bags take up??? Confused I’m all for minimalism and a capsule wardrobe but come on!

I don't have a handbag. At all
