Perfumes/Scents you remember

I was thinking about these and how many I have used over the years. These are the ones I remember, starting from about age 11:-

Blue Grass - Elizabeth Arden
Apple Blossom - Helena Rubinstein
Aqua Manda - Yardley
Vent Vert - Balmain
Shalimar - Guerlain
Caleche - Hermes
Opium - YSL
Aromatics Elixir - Clinique
Escada - Margaretha Ley
No. 5 - Chanel
No. 19 - Chanel
Various perfume sticks from Sephora
and now Paris-Biarritz - Chanel

My favourites were Vent Vert and Escada - sadly both unavailable now - unless anyone knows better?

What were/are your favourite scents?

Shalimar is, by far, my favourite perfume ever. (Disclaimer: 57 year old man here) Such an exotic scent.

Aprilwasverywet · 06/06/2021 11:03

When I was a teenager Blasé..
Can't remember I had any others...

icelollycraving · 06/06/2021 11:08

Some of my favourites that were discontinued were Dolce & Gabbana By. It was fabulous, in a leopard print bottle and a Gucci orange blossom that I only found in the airport. Another was Chemistry by Clinique when they did a unisex fragrance.
Fragrances that make me nostalgic are Dune, White Linen (reminds me of my mum in the 80s), Loulou and Cool Water. Chance is my favourite and makes me happy every time I spray it on.

MrsMaizel · 06/06/2021 11:19

My first bottle was Estee Lauder Youth Dew ( makes me heave now ) and I got married first time in White Linen .

Derrymum123 · 06/06/2021 11:30

Happy by Clinique and Cerrutti 1881 also Contradiction by CKlein. Love them all. Still can get some if I search hard enough. Smile

Monsoon ( blue bottle- bronze conical top)
Ananya Body Shop
Karl Lagerfeld Femme ( strange shaped pinky/orange rimmed bottle. Black top)
The original Charlie in the blue box.

Perfume / scents really evoke memories for me like nothing else - far more than music etc

My very first perfume was O de Lancome & I bought it on my first trio to London when ii was about 14. I was obsessed with finding a Spanish style cologne but I had very limited knowledge or resources!

After that i had an Anais Anais & a Paris phase.

Then Ralph Lauren Safari- I loved that & was sad when it was discontinued

Another trip to London in my late teens / v early 20s saw me discovering Issey Miyake & absolutely being a frontrunner with that in my circle for quite a while. That perfume was absolutely synonymous with me for years & boyfriends / friends always said so.

I had a complete scent u-turn then & started wearing Paloma Picasso & I wore that for about 3 or 4 years until I grew tired of it.

I then discovered a cheap perfume L'Eau D'Orlean which I absolutely adored in my mid 20s & even though I'm almost 50 now I have a half bottle tucked away & every so often I open it for a sniff & it takes me right back to those wonderful carefree, full of adventure & possibility days. Some days that makes me feel sad, others it fills me with optimism again.

I wore Jo Malone on my wedding day & it holds wonderful memories for me

L'Eau Dr L'Artisan when dc were small - again brings me back to those days in an instant!

I really love perfume & appreciate the huge role it's played in my life.

I'd actually like to build a collection of all the perfumes that were significant to me so I can bring back those memories - I might just do that!

I sorely miss poison tendre in the green bottle by Dior

VioletCharlotte · 06/06/2021 13:44

There was one called Sunflowers I used to buy from Boots when I was a teenager that I really loved.

Wearing O de Lancôme today, like Lancôme perfumes
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/06/2021 15:23

@VioletCharlotte if the Sunflowers was by Elizabeth Arden, you can still get it. I've had it from Bodycare, and Home Bargains, cheaper than Boots. DD likes it!

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2021 15:28

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2021 15:31

My 1st perfume was Coty Lamont and another called Pagan...to be honest back in the early 70s that was all I could afford...now I like Alien and Angel.

FreddieLounds · 06/06/2021 19:14

Body Shop Fuzzy Peach as a kid
Poison as a teen (still a guilty pleasure)
Tendre Poison (actually amazing - wish they still made it.)
Ysatis
Chanel no. 5
Agent Provocateur (the powder pink drop-shaped bottle)
Jo Malone - Pomegranate noir or Oud and bergamot.

I LOVE prefume. I associate Anaïs Anaïs with my mother when I was a kid and 4711 with my gran.
