I want to treat myself and buy a really nice gemstone, cocktail ring.

I don't want to get married again so I will never have an engagement ring again. But I really like gemstone rings and I want to buy a nice one to enjoy and then to give to my daughter one day. I really like morganite or sapphire but I am open to all gemstones.

Any ideas? Do any of you wear that kind of thing?

@NeedATan

Thank you. The first one isn't tanzanite (wish it was, would be worth a fortune!). It's bluer than it looks on the photo, I can't remember what the stone is. My mum used to remember what they all were but she's no longer with us. It changes colour depending on the light, sometimes pure blue, sometimes a hint of purple. Any ideas?

The second one is blue topaz and the last one is mystic topaz.

NeedATan · 07/06/2021 12:04

@Corrag Yes I did think it would be worth a fortune if it were a tanzanite. I wonder if it's a tourmaline. There are so many semi precious stones around though (www.gemsociety.org/article/blue-gemstones/). You have some beautiful stones in any case!

One of my favourite statement rings is my milky Opal with diamonds

I used to have a gorgeous blue stone ring which was iolite - could that be it Corrag?

VanillaAndOrange · 07/06/2021 17:02

These are some "statement" rings I sometimes wear - one with white shell, one with an unknown stripy stone (although a jeweller I asked about resizing it, because I don't really like wearing rings on that finger, thought it might be resin), and one made of "Venetian" (yeah, right!) glass. I prefer smooth, rounded stones to faceted ones.

On I absolutely live that Opal with diamonds

Corrag · 07/06/2021 17:25

@NeedATan @JaceLancs No, neither of those, I dug or the little card that came with it. It's colour-change flourite.

NeedATan · 07/06/2021 18:14

Right @Corrag - I shall be getting myself some colour-change fluorite and some iolite (thank you @JaceLancs !)

I bought a lovely purpley garnet surrounded by tiny diamonds and set in platinum a few years ago. I think it's from the 1930s, it came from a small antique shop but wasn't very expensive. You can often see lovely rings in antique markets.

I love your opal! I had one years ago but it was stolen, still miss it.

Had to do a double take at the thread title I’m afraid. May have been watching too much Naked Attraction Grin

Yespresh · 13/06/2021 18:33

Dont be put off an emerald. I have been wearing a Columbian emerald engagement ring for 29 years. It’s absolutely fine.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 13/06/2021 18:41

This has to be my favourite ever thread.

Beautiful ring. Wow.

@Beebumble2 your ring is beautiful. Just my colours. Did you get it recently?

Beebumble2 · 13/06/2021 18:58

About a year ago. I think they probably have something similar. QVC seems to do a lot of statement rings.

Bertiebiscuit · 13/06/2021 19:06

In the same boat as you so I went to Hatton Garden and ended up buying myself a beautiful gold ring with a big square cut sapphire and 2 diamonds - which I love and wear a lot - go for it - I'm just not sure what makes a ring a "cocktail ring" - I imagined these to be fun fake huge ones, which my ring is not

Beebumble2 · 13/06/2021 19:06

Not been back for a while, thank you to all who liked my ring. I wore it out the other day, did my nails and it felt so good.
Hope you all find your lovely ring soon and feel good wearing it.

Smolgoose · 13/06/2021 19:32

I've taken photos of my favourites NOT on my hands, as they have turned into puffy ham mittens in this heat!

First one is lemon quartz and cubic zirconia, made by an Indian jeweller on ebay, second is amethyst also made by a wonderful Indian jewellery brand called druvansh on ebay, and third is opal and spinel.

The opal one I hardly wear, as it just seems to look too much as the opals are very colourful so it's very eye catching. I need to sort out my abysmal nails before I can wear it!

I absolutely adore Tanzanite but very pricey so I have a light colour tanzanite ring and earrings ( the darker almost sapphire colour ones are very speedy!) But I also use qvc for diamonique "tanzanite" very gorgeous jewellery and I'm always complimented on my "tanzanite"!! Also I have chubster fingers so can always get bigger sizes than anywhere else

Mimmi78 · 13/06/2021 20:24

I saw this aquamarine and HAD to have it! I love it and it's often commented on!
