I see the uniform of floaty dress, white trainers and denim jacket has survived the pandemic

@homemadefries

Anyway, I'm 35 and wearing diamanté stuffed jeans in heart shapes - judge me!
Please tell me these are current and I can see a photo!

I still pine for my dark blue jeans with stretch, sparkly denim and a hook and eye fastener.

@Staffy1

I think floaty dresses with trainers look terrible. Dresses just don't go with trainers in my mind. Never been a fan of floaty dresses with or without trainers anyway. I'm old and unfashionable though.
Funnily enough I saw a woman wearing her floaty dress with heels today and I thought it looked quite odd.
Letsgetreadytocrumble · 31/05/2021 17:22

I absolutely love it - cool, comfortable, flattering and disguises my day legs perfectly, what's not to like?!

WrongKindOfFace · 31/05/2021 17:24

@OverByYer

I’m hoping the ‘All Saints ‘ cargo pants and vest tops makes a return them I’ll be in my element
Cargo pants were the absolute best. No need to take a handbag out.

Just need to lose the lockdown lard first.

Looubylou · 31/05/2021 17:24

WhoisRebecca- that looks lovely

sadperson16 · 31/05/2021 17:27

Do you remember when tired skirts and wide leather type belt came back around....was it maybe 20 or so years ago?
Was the dress and shoes/ boots thing supposed to be a sort of juxtaposition idea?
Anyway what do I knowHmm

Janaih · 31/05/2021 17:43

I remember going out in silk cargos, printed shell vest top and a tiara. I felt epic Grin

TillyTopper · 31/05/2021 17:44

I wore similar on Sunday - my 90 year old mum asked why I wasn't in heels as "they are more lady like". Grin

Cocolapew · 31/05/2021 18:04

This was 27 years ago. Nowadays I look like a fat Amish bloke in them.

Tereseta · 31/05/2021 18:11

I'm always a bit stuck with trainers, with sock or without and what kind of socks?
I've never owned a pair of trainers on my life but want to embrace the comfort now!

SkintSingleMother · 31/05/2021 18:21

They also layered the dress over a white t-shirt sometimes....

Yy, and again I've seen a lot of that this weekend.

Agree that heels seem to have had their day and that this was happening even before lockdown. Thank goodness.

I think there will always be the stack+bodycon combination for those who want it but for work and formal events at least heels have been gradually less and less ubiquitous.

Like a pp I honestly can't wear them any more. It's been too long.

SkintSingleMother · 31/05/2021 18:23

@Tereseta I wear trainer socks to avoid whiff. You can get multipacks of thin ones from Primark and the like for not much money at all.

minipie · 31/05/2021 18:31

I’m all for this look in theory but it just looks wrong on me. I’m short and have a slim waist but chunky legs, all the floaty unfitted midi dresses make me look frumpy as hell. Sigh

I do love a maxi skirt though

NoOneCaresInRealLife · 31/05/2021 18:34

I wore floaty dress, leather heels and denim jacket yesterday but had my white trainers ready to change into if we decided to do some walking whilst out yesterday. Jacket not needed. Can honestly say I felt good about myself all day long

LoveBeingAMum555 · 31/05/2021 18:34

Just come back from a trip to the coast (North East). I wore jeans, thermal top, jumper and padded jacket - it was sunny but freezing cold. I saw lots of very skimpy outfits and flip flops, lots of big coats and wellies, and everything in between. It's just lovely to see people out and about. Personally I am hoping it's warm enough to wear a dress to the office tomorrow.

AuldFox · 31/05/2021 18:35

I need a fitted waist but this year I have lost enough weight so my thighs no longer rub together when I walk, so hurrah, dresses are back for me!

gagrag · 31/05/2021 18:36

The little socks that you can't see.

I have the perfect dress for this, can't wait to relive my youth!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 31/05/2021 18:36

I don't wear them with trainers but have been wearing converse and DMs with dresses for a few years. They are comfy and I am 43 and do not care what people think anymore 🤣

I actually went out today in an old tshirt of ds and a pair of cotton baggy checked shorts which also used to belong to ds. Completely forgot they were pjs!! Proper fashionista me!

Serpenta · 31/05/2021 19:45

I think the strappy dress over a white tshirt is a handy trend. Not many people feeling confident enough to bare their arms and back in a spaghetti strapped slip dress but pop a white tshirt underneath it and suddenly it's much more wearable and far less overtly sexy.

Not, of course, that's there's anything wrong with being overtly sexy.

Floisme · 31/05/2021 20:00

the strappy dress over a white tshirt
Aah Julie Delpy in 'Before Sunrise'. 1995 (had to Google that bit). I wasn't even 40!

Floisme · 31/05/2021 20:04

And we went from there on to bodycon and killer heels so sorry I don't see this trend as anything more meaningful than fashion. I would bet my house on heels coming back at some point.

Oh no. This was a thing in the 90s. Better to buy a dress with sleeves/short sleeves surely.
SkintSingleMother · 31/05/2021 20:40

My plates of meat have definitely spread through years of having babies, fluctuating weight, peri bloating and stopping wearing heels so there's no way I'd get back into them now. I guess I'll just gradually puddle full body downwards from now on so that by the time heels come back I'll be nothing but a huge pair of very flat feet with a greying hairline peeping over the top of them so I won't care any more.
