Still had birthday money from start of the year, so after constantly looking at them online I have just gone for it! Quite excited but also feel a bit guilty!! It is birthday money and it was my 40 😬

It's gorgeous! Enjoy

Ninkanink · 08/05/2021 20:33

@FourteenthDoctor People get utterly ridiculous about bags on here sometimes. But we’re pretty good at telling them to piss off if they’re going to piss on people’s chips! Wink I think you went for a metallic Dior on that occasion, is that right?

AvantGardening · 08/05/2021 20:34

@Ninkanink

Why on earth would you feel guilty?? Do you think men feel guilty about their very expensive bikes/motorbikes/cars/model railways/other hobbies and things that make them happy? No, they don’t. And no one gives them any grief over spending huge amounts of money on them.

Enjoy your beautiful new bag! Which one did you buy?

Thank you for this point. I’ve been considering a new camera. It’s expensive so I feel guilty about thinking of spending the money on me. But my husband has one of these hobby things and has spent plenty on himself via them. Time for a chat about who’s turn it is to have a splurge.
SelkieFly · 08/05/2021 20:34

Lovely! 😍

Missushbb · 08/05/2021 20:38

@FourteenthDoctor i'll need to find your thread!
my dh just said it's nice to get something special, and that his new camera was £500 so i should just enjoy it.

My bag obsession stems from my ex husband being totally controlling over money. I bought my first Mulberry a couple of years after we divorced as a 'fuck you' to him. It was meant to be my only designer purchase but many many bags later..... Thankfully my current husband is fully supportive!!

SelkieFly · 08/05/2021 20:54

Similar here. I'm a single parent and I'm not rolling around in money but I have worked hard and saved hard and made good choices for over a decade now. I've only bought myself one Loewe hammock for my 50th and before that I'd bought a chloe see bag, but my abusive x (also financially abusive) used to buy expensive cars and I was nearly picking up 2ps off the street. I left him but it was a tough decade. It's 14 years since I left him, so I'm not being foolish. I'm back on my feet now. And goddammit I deserve a bag occasionally. I don't drive (another controversial declaration) but I live near many bus routes. I have no driving history so despite my advanced age, a year's insurance if I were to start driving would be more than my designer bag! So I'm happy as I am. Sitting on the bus with my Loewe on my knee!

I really like the Mulberry Lily totes, I'd need a decent sized one though. All my bags are too small

Missushbb · 08/05/2021 21:00

i like the bayswater tote too.

yes it's so good to spend money on yourself. i was thinking that when i was trying to justify my purchase, i don't have car finance or anything so why not
buy something nice!

I can find it but it won't let me view it - I was posting under Sansasnatch - if anyone can link please do!

Basically I was in Italy and I had two bag choices and it was kind of a live which one am I going to get thread. It's taken till now and a name change to even think about discussing my handbag purchases!

FourteenthDoctor · 09/05/2021 17:25

My DH has a season ticket to the football every year so I get the same amount to spend! Usually on a handbag!

SpeckledyHen · 09/05/2021 17:32

Enjoy our beautiful bag OP . Was the shopping experience wonderful too ?

How lovely @Missushbb the Lily is such a lovely classic bag.

I have a bag habit including some Mulberries - a navy blue kite, oxblood Tessie crossbody, purple patent east west Bayswater, rust Leighton (my fave!) and a large tan Antony. I haven’t used the Antony for years, maybe I should sell...?

it was, though i didn't have much time as the shop was closing, but they didn't rush me. my fault for going in to town last minute. i felt a bit out of place at first as i never usually shop in places like that, but they were very nice. i was in house of fraser last week and the Mulberry concession staff were so lovely too, i tried on a few bags and there was no pressure to buy.

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 09/05/2021 21:15

i'd never heard of a lily tote until you mentioned it: it's lovely!!

MargosKaftan · 09/05/2021 21:27

Yes! Poster asked for help picking a bag with a small legacy from a lady who loved her bags (around the mulberry price point), told to buy a bench in her memory instead. Or art. Or spend it on a holiday for her whole family.

But what it could never be, is spent on something that was only for the benefit of the woman.

(Men buying bikes / watches never get this)

FourteenthDoctor · 09/05/2021 22:18

I can't see the thread but if it was started by sansasnatch then yes! I remember sitting with a negroni and my husband was like just ignore them and I was like "do you know me at all" 😂
