For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

I’m so glad someone is talking about how unlikely the tret conc is in Skin & Me. I have a tret 0.025% oint which I just about tolerate with just a pea sized amount - anything more and I would be raw and peeling. But yet I can slather on the full twist of Skin & Me 0.025 tret with azaleic AND niacinamide and there’s not a peep out of my face. I’m not buying those concentrations either.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 03/09/2022 13:38

@JMAngel1 - I've gone a bit off piste from the Skin + Me/Dermatica using Tret .05% from Tretinoin World. It seems much stronger than the usual preparations, so agree with you.

Wheresthebeach · 23/09/2022 15:06

Just wondering if anyone has had good effects with Foreo Bear, or Nuface. I've been using religiously and I'm not seeing an impact...wondering if it's just me!

PeloFondo · 23/09/2022 16:56

I got some new bath stuff today from soak Sunday, lovely packaging

@Wheresthebeach it lifts my eyebrows a bit. I notice when I don’t do it, if you know what I mean! Foreo Bear.

botemp · 23/09/2022 18:08

Yes, the Foreo bear definitely works well for me but I'm not asking it to do anything major. It just slightly improved and sculpted, noticeably my face is more symmetrical. It's not undoing any sagging or similar (don't have that issue).

Brows definitely lifted, I have naturally hooded eyes but age probably is making them drop a bit and I definitely have more lid space when I use it, and if I forget to do it for a few days it'll revert back to being more hooded.

I initially mistook the left bottle for some strong spirit pelo Grin (boozy baths probably not the best idea).

@PeloFondo
They look gorgeous - perfect for Autumn bath pamper night.

I have a Nu Face and definitely notice if I don't use it - it lifts my cheeks, jowls and brows. But I'm 50 and definitely have sagging.

PeloFondo · 24/09/2022 01:04

Slathered some of this on my neck today, then googled it
I need a lie down. HOW much!?

JMAngel1 · 24/09/2022 07:12

That’s obscene! I’d expect at that price for it to come with a scalpel 😂

Wheresthebeach · 28/09/2022 10:38

Thanks for the feed back on Bear/Nuface. I'm probably expecting too much from the sounds of it. I think I spent the Pandemic frowning under a mask and I'm pretty unimpressed with chin line now.

Was thinking of something for my neck specifically as well...but will steer clear of Macrene!

Was looking at the Face Gym rollers...expensive on going but wondering if they might be worth a go?

botemp · 28/09/2022 10:51

If sagging is your issue then realistically nothing is going to defy gravity (bar surgery). Skin care devices are to be seen as additional things that will only do very marginal things but far from miracle workers. I'm unfamiliar with the gym face rollers but from a quick Google I can't see their benefit.

There's some new fillers now that are more solid and can be sculpted that are supposed to be good for the jawline.

Where'sthebeach, I think I agree with what bitachey says. And it must do something as an eyebrow lady assumed I had had Botox as I have a smooth forehead (although it's not THAT smooth - definitely does not look like I have done Botox !!!).

Which bear routine do you use for around your eyes Bo? The one the Brazilian lady does with the mini bear? I think I'm getting extra skin somehow on my eyelids as eye shadow is not applying so easily. I suppose this is just ageing but it's very annoying!!

botemp · 28/09/2022 13:49

Yeah, I kind of forget about the forehead, it does work well there even though I don't pay it much attention.

I've sort of developed my own eye routine with bits from here and there. I think it's mostly techniques from the organic or (natural?) aeathetician and the Brazilian woman. I didn't like the latters specific eye routine, only small parts of it. I really didn't like the orbiting the entire eye thing and I prefer to leave my eye bag area alone. I suppose in true MN tradition I could draw you a diagram Grin

OP posts:
SophieLion · 28/09/2022 16:34

Why don't you like orbiting the eye Bo? I don't remember what she does in the eye bag area.

I'm now waiting for a diagram Wink

botemp · 28/09/2022 17:25

It seems to give me puffy eye bags 🤷 do I need to include that in the diagram too...

Can I ask, the Electric pulse devices like the Nuface, Foreo Bear, etc - do they all work in the same way & are they all about as effective? Boots sell one that's a different brand (they don't stock the Foreo or Nuface) & I can nearly afford it with my points. Am definitely not happy with my jawline, it's gone south slightly. Hmm No wrinkles though...yet.

botemp · 18/10/2022 07:11

Is it the Magnitone one? I have no idea tbh, as the brands don't always specify what ranges they are using. Foreo and Nuface both do and from that it could be seen that Foreo was twice as strong and why it can be used in less amount of time but the higher strength also has its disadvantages iirc so it's not an easy more is better equation. IME the cheaper devices often don't specify much so it's difficult to assess how good they'd be but if they do specify these technical details then it should be easy enough to compare and contrast. Not guaranteed to mean it'll work as well even when all technical specs are the same but at least it'll give some indication you're not buying a glorified facial massager.

I remember some people buying the Magnitone when there was a lot of Foreo bear discussions on here as it was very cheap then (£60 but less on offer, I think it's more expensive now?) but I've never seen anyone rave about it, but maybe it's worth asking in a standalone thread if anyone has seen good results with it (or whatever one you're looking at).

OP posts:
ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar · 18/10/2022 16:26

Yes, the Magnitone one. It’s currently £90 at Boots - which I could buy “for free” as I’ve pretty much got enough loyalty points saved up to pay for it. But, I’ll regret it if it turns out to be rubbish, especially if Boots start selling the Foreo or Nuface in the future. IDK. And no, it doesn’t give any technical details about it.

Eirepopcorn · 12/01/2023 17:26

hi , has this thread disappeared or is it under a different name?

botemp · 12/01/2023 17:39

No, we're still here just not posting very actively.

Oh good!

botemp · 12/01/2023 20:37

Was there something you wanted to ask/get advice on?

I think we've all settled into settled routines now so there's just less chat. The only new things I tried in the past few months are some bits from Beauty of Joseon after really liking their SPF. I really like their cleansing balm and I've never been much of CB fan and I also really really like their moisturiser, it makes the skin very aesthetically pleasing with a really nice glow (also does the basic job of moisturising well).

I've NC (Queen)
Nothing to report! I have covid and have had antivirals and my skin is wrecked so acne AND peeling Confused but happy with my routine

ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar · 12/01/2023 23:05

Hi @botemp, I've got a question about post roaccutane skincare, if you wouldn't mind helping me. I've finished them about a month ago & my skin (& especially my lips) has stopped the horrendous peeling & cracking, but my skin is definitely much drier than it used to be. I've been on roaccutane previously, it only took a couple of weeks for my skin to largely go back to normal - although less blemishes. This time I think it's likely to stay much drier, I get dry patches in some areas, never normally had dry skin before, just dehydrated.
I've been using the below for the last 6 months. Once I got the routine down I had very few problems except for my lips, in contrast to the last time I was on roaccutane when my skin was constantly splitting & really raw, especially around my mouth & nose.

LRP cream cleanser, or LRP Effaclar H cleanser
Rose water (as a toner with cotton wool)
LRP thermal spring water
Dermalogica ultra calming serum occasionally on any very dry/flaky/sore patches
LRP hyaluronic b5 serum
LRP effaclar h cream
biore watery essence SPF50.
I carry a spray SPF for top-ups when necessary, I can't remember what brand.
LRP Cicaplast b5, on any patches that needed it (mostly at night)

I don't wear makeup.

I've always used skincare for oily dehydrated skin when I'm not on roaccutane, but it's not enough at the moment. And the above routine is too much, it feels sticky now I'm off the roaccutane. Which item/s should I drop? What to replace with? Or should I give it a while longer? My lips are pretty much back to normal now - they were literally raw & cracking horribly for most of the last 6 months, so I think the drug is pretty much out of my system.

I've switched back to my previous moisturiser in the mornings, LRP toleriane sensitive fluide, it doesn't feel enough but the effaclar H cream is too much, & the tube is virtually empty. I'm almost out of hyaluronic b5 serum too (but my skin really seems to like hyaluronic acid so I'd like a lighter alternative if possible).

botemp · 13/01/2023 09:03

When you say things are too much and too heavy (the B5 hyaluronic acid and effaclar h cream) do you mean in terms of hydration, moisturising? Or is the product not absorbing on your skin? Do you rinse your face with cleanser in the AM? That's probably the first thing I'd cut out, just a quick rinse with water instead.
