Brush stroke dress (reduced - phew!). Quite frankly it fell out of the bag in a crumpled up ball, doesn’t look as if there was any attempt to fold it

I hate Toast for this. Hate them. Mine was on a hanger, swathed in plastic and nicely folded in three. JL are so much better at this.

You’ve inspired me to go and look at the jersey trousers now.

ilovecherries · 28/06/2021 15:25

I’m always torn about packaging. I hate all the excess plastic that next, JLP, M&S etc use, but the alternative surely isn’t roll in ball and shove in bag. I bought a jumper from Finisterre recently, and it was folded in a biodegrade ‘plastic’ bag inside a brown paper postal bag, so their must be alternatives.

ilovecherries · 28/06/2021 15:26

There ffs.

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 15:37

Yes, I know what you mean. I get the rage over some Amazon deliveries. But I do think if you’re paying a three figure sum for a frock it’s nice if it doesn’t turn up looking like a dish cloth.

dudsville · 28/06/2021 17:58

I've got to stop looking at what's become available. I just bought the ora check cotton dress in olive and the olive annie cords.

I'm glad for the reduced plastic packaging. Mine came neatly folded, no plastic, in just the paper bag. Perhaps the delivery handlers are shaking them up a bit?

ilovecherries · 28/06/2021 18:24

Nah, this one wasn’t down to RM. some items in the bag were neatly folded (all the full price stuff now I think about it). The dress and the t shirts were literally balled up, no folding at all. I’m with you on the no plastic packaging, but that doesn’t mean expensive clothes should be treated like shit.

Gonegrey31 · 28/06/2021 18:34

I received the Cotton herringbone Yoke shirt last week and liked it so much I’ve bought one for my dd. It is very fine cotton, beautifully soft and much nicer than the photographs would suggest. True to size . A classic shirt .

Laska2Meryls · 28/06/2021 19:19

I bought the Pin Check Cotton Dhuggie in white and really liked it it so have just bought the yellow also as one came back in , in my size.

I agree about Toast packaging disasters. The brushstroke dress I ordered was completely screwed up and looked like a total rag.. luckily I had also ordered it from JL ( and they price matched me to £10 less than the Toast price !! Bingo! ) and it arrived creaseless.. Sent the Toast one straight back ( but did get a refund in 3 days )

The skirt I'd wanted was back in the sale so I've ordered it but will see what I think of the material.

Countmeout · 29/06/2021 07:28

More not very generous reductions on John Lewis this morning.
A couple of new pieces too. I like the navy jersey shirt.

Countmeout · 29/06/2021 07:36

I had the Ashley jeans in my basket in indigo and discovered they’re reduced too. Seemed rude not to buy them.

ToastCosILoveIt · 29/06/2021 08:53

Joy of joys, the first thing I did this am was check the Oxford dress on JL to see if they had a red back in stock in 10: they did and have bought it. I then checked this page and went back in to get ashley denim jeans, the denim skirt and some wide linen trousers.

Hoping JL will price match the price of the Oxford dress with Toast's price.

ilovecherries · 29/06/2021 09:31

Here’s the green linen top and trousers styled like a jumpsuit. What do you think? Too much green? Look daft?

ToastCosILoveIt · 29/06/2021 09:57

Looks good @ilovecherries, are they the green jeans? Been tempted but resisted. How are they on sizing?

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2021 10:03

My needlecord dress has just arrived and it’s wonderful but the colour - Chalk - is awful with my silver hair so sadly it’s being returned. If Toast do it in grey or navy this winter I’ll buy it at full price.

Love the green outfit @ilovecherries.

Gonegrey31 · 29/06/2021 10:03

ilovecherries I think you look fabulous in that outfit!

faustina · 29/06/2021 10:31

@ilovecherries - that green really suits you!

@ToastCosILoveIt - hope my olive oil version of that shirt dress arrives soon!
I wonder if the JL additions mean Toast will be adding more to the sale later today?

ilovecherries · 29/06/2021 10:37

No, not the jeans Toast. Linen pull on trousers and linen top. Even though both are garment dyed the shade is identical and of course the fabric is the same as well.

I had the same issue with that dress. I’m hoping for a navy or dark grey. Even a damson colour would be fine.
Blossomtoes · 29/06/2021 10:59

I’ll keep my fingers firmly crossed for both of us @ilovecherries, although damson wouldn’t work for me, my wardrobe is wall to wall black, grey, navy and blue. Perhaps I should branch out?

ilovecherries · 29/06/2021 11:24

Laundry question. The dropped waist shirt dress I posted the other day (mine was maroon but I think some of you have it in olive oil) and everyone said was too big for me in the 12. Couldn’t get a 10 but bought an 8 from JL. It does fit much better but I wouldn’t want it any tighter (or shorter). Has anyone washed their’s yet? Toast isn’t prone to shrinkage but it’s a fairly loose weave and I’m worried the fabric will tighten up in the wash.

ilovecherries · 29/06/2021 11:26

Thank you, GoneGrey. I’m trying to drag myself out of my grief ridden rut and pull myself together a bit. Feel too exhausted to make much effort so trying to put together a few nicer outfits I can throw on without too much thought.

Gonegrey31 · 29/06/2021 12:56

Oh ilovecherries I'm so sorry that you have had such a challenging and sad time in recent months. I think new Toast clothes in lovely rich colours is a good step forward.
I can also recommend (going a bit off tangent here) a wonderful book to lose yourself in "Devorgilla Days", a memoir of loss and healing, by Kathleen Hart. You might find some comfort in her gentle wisdom.

I washed mine. I don't see any shrinkage. Its a perfect size in an 8 and still a loose enough fit.
