New thread. Let’s get the vanilla away, lockdown done, and the citrus and coconut out.

im in about three different scent s aday tbh but some of them just have to go, the ones that arent a deep like or love are going, im trying to only buy what i know i will really enjoy now instead of just anything that catches my eye, im really bad for impulsive blind buys Blush

Bee0808 · 03/03/2021 13:01

Me too...:)

PearsMorgan · 03/03/2021 14:07

200! Woah @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack! I imposed a ban on myself at around 12. Although I have broken it with a small fb of molecule 03 - seems to have been in the liberty advent calendar and there are many unopened bottles on eBay. Unlike mol 01 I couldn’t find a good cheapo version of this.

I love Mojave Ghost @Hexinthecity and think of it as fruit rather than floral. On me it is massive and lasts for ages (one of the few things that does), sorry you haven’t been as lucky.

SOTD X 2:
Chanel no 5 which I thought I ought to smell given its centenary, which isn’t what I thought it was (I wonder what that one is) and is surprisingly like Allure which my friend wears.
Molecule 05 which smells like mould and berries. Weird.

What an amazing collection OneNight! I do plan to trim down mine over the next few months. I’ve been putting it off because of not wanting to go to the Post Office. I have far too many that have an amazing opening which lasts for a short while, to be followed by a very boring skin scent. Or blind buys which are pleasant enough, but are just sitting there not being chosen. I don’t think I have over 200 bottles, but I’m not going to count them, just in case! 😱

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/03/2021 14:44

im terrible for impulsive blind buys which is why ive ended up with so many!! i just get such a thrill out of finding something i love and it could be worse, it could be drugs Grin

Calmasasleepycat · 03/03/2021 14:57

SOTD O, Unknown by Imaginary Authors. It is lapsang souchong tea with a beautiful soft powdery iris (orris root) underlying it. I love the stories behind this house. This one is about author Philip Sava (imaginary of course!)

“At age 65, when famed explorer and author Philip Sava was given less than a year to live, he set off from his home in Madagascar for parts unknown. Leaving all his belongings behind, he set off on foot, hopped a freighter across the Indian Ocean, and wandered into the Bangladeshi wilderness. His journey, which lasted over a decade, took him through Nepal and Tibet where his exploration turned spiritual and into rural China where months of solitude resulted in some of the most confessional observations ever committed to paper. This is the story of a man grappling with the meaning of life as he grasps at life’s last vestiges.”

On re-reading that, it sounds a bit depressing, but the perfume is very comforting and contemplative.

Fferny1 · 03/03/2021 15:01

Your collection is so pretty @One.
I adore looking at people Fragantica lists. I have over 50 but I generally cull when I get above 50 bottles. I do try to be good these days & buy decants now, from Facebook perfume sites. However my guilty secret is perfumes I really like & are discontinued I have at least one spare of. I'm still guilty of the odd Tk Maxx blind buy that i invariably don't like that much & sell on ( but I have had some absolute crackers💗).

Sotd is Wrappings - gorgeous, warm, piney & resinous.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/03/2021 15:20

i try and keep my fragrantica shelves very ordered haha, everything is according to house or at least thast the aim! for me it makes it easier to see what ive got so i dont end up buying soemthing twice

Bee0808 · 03/03/2021 15:39

I haven't updated mine in ages...

1frenchfoodie · 03/03/2021 20:42

Amazing collection One. Didnt know about this feature of Fragrantica, it looks great.

SOTD Comme des Garcons Hinoki, a delicious fresh, woody cypress. Needed to feel motivated and efficient for a busy day at a new job and it did the trick.

FloraMacDonald · 03/03/2021 20:47

That's a lovely collection One.
I've got loads of 'nice enough' perfumes that I don't really reach for. I've decided to set myself a small challenge. Five bottles each month, only one bottle can be carried over from the previous month. I still leave my samples out though in case I get bored of my five. Hopefully I'll use a few different ones, instead of sticking to the same few. I haven't updated my list for March yet.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/03/2021 21:53

ohhhhh you all telling me its a lovely collection!! now i want MOARRRRRRR ha Blush

Bee0808 · 04/03/2021 08:04

😅😅
Sotd today will be something from my perfume drawer...maybe 4160 amberama which I adore and haven't worn in ages..

Bee0808 · 04/03/2021 08:06

We are having quite a bit of work done on the house this spring (new windows, fascias, doors and making the bathroom into a shower room..) so there will be no perfume buys for me anytime soon :(
I asked for neom stuff for mother's day and she told me that ds2 said "I'm not buying her that!" and went off surfing the Internet for my gift.
God only knows what he'll come up with 😅😅

Purpleblondelady · 04/03/2021 12:58

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but I don't feel like I know enough about fragrance to join! I know you are experts but I wanted to offer a tip to @Bee0808 you said that you had some samples that won't spray, I had one a couple of months ago that wouldn't spray. I turned the sample upside down and flicked/tapped the vial (like you see nurses doing with injections) so that air bubbles travelled up and out of the spray tube and then it worked.

SOTD Floral Street Iris Goddess, it's just a sample, I wouldn't buy a fs but I'll use up the sample.

QueenPaw · 04/03/2021 13:05

SOTD Kyse marshmallow

RazorstormUnicorn · 04/03/2021 13:10

@Purpleblondelady I don't know much about perfume either but am enjoying learning and posting a bit Smile

@Calmasasleepycat I am now going to see if there is a book about that journey as that sounds like something I would love to read!

SOTD 4160 Gathering of the clans - bought on impulse when I read if described as grass and smoke and whisky barrels and really disliked it on first wear. It's a 50ml bottle so I tried again the other day and now really love it!

QueenPaw · 04/03/2021 13:19

I've just done my fragrance library and it's 45 full bottles so not as bad as I thought!

Hexinthecity · 04/03/2021 13:48

Right lovelies you’ve all inspired me to expand my horizons! I’m going to order a taster set from 4106, and so far have on the short list amberama, black velvet cafe, way my soul, tarts knickers drawer and sexiest scent on the planet. I need a couple of wild card suggestions to fill up the last spot and / or those of you with a good nose and experience of the above to warn me off any of them if they’re too powdery. One thing g I can’t get on with with anything too strongly powdery or heavy.

SOTD Burberry women, started off on a sample of shay and blue dandelion fog which I hated and didn’t settle down to anything I like either so washed it off and went with Burberry for a bit of mossy comfort

Bee0808 · 04/03/2021 16:04

Oooh some of my favourites in there hex! :)
I'm wearing amberama today!
You might like doe in the snow - its very unusual.
Lovely to see some new faces!
Welcome! 😁

Bee0808 · 04/03/2021 16:05

I'll try that purple thank you!

EvelynBeatrice · 04/03/2021 20:28

I am working my way through the Perfume Society niche box - some real stinkers I have to say. But unfortunately I’m loving the Valmont samples, especially Lady Code. Powdery almond - very like La vie est belle but not as sweet. Unfortunate as far too expensive for a ‘like very much but not love to death’ purchase. The Venice one is also gorgeous.

Bee0808 · 04/03/2021 20:37

I gave up with them as there were so many I didn't like.

Purpleblondelady · 04/03/2021 20:41

I hope it works Bee, will you let me know.

I've been enjoying reading and learning too Razor. I didn't buy perfume for years because my favourite was discontinued and I think I was always on the lookout for the same fragrance. I've now realised that that's not going to happen so I'm just trying to piece together what I do and don't like. I've written quite a list of ones that I'd like to try.

Hexinthecity · 04/03/2021 20:44

Thanks @Bee0808 added that one in and Bodhi language too. Didn’t upgrade the shipping so a leisurely wait till they arrive to hopefully stope me from impulse buying anything else while I wait!

@EvelynBeatrice which niche box are you working through? I eyed the third one up before plumbing for the 4106 taster box. Glad I swerved it based on that appraisal!
