One look that you love and one that you loathe

Love - silk shirts with a blazer and fitted trousers/jeans. Brogues or block heels. Really dainty jewellery.

Loathe - 50s look (unless it actually is from the 50s), Irregular Choice shoes etc.

Like - anything inspired by pre-1960's fashion, especially 40's and 50's - tending more towards every day wear than the huge petticoats/rockabilly look, eg. pin.it/13gE1hg

Loathe - I've never been a fan of sportswear worn as fashion. There are people who suit it, but there's no way I'll ever wear it.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 03/02/2021 13:18

Love Stevie Nicks boho look in the 1970s.

A look I would never choose to wear is anything 40's/50's retro inspired, way too smart for me 😂

TableNiner · 03/02/2021 13:43

Love: a seventies look with flares, either dressy with a blouse, big sunglasses and floppy hat or more casual with a sweatshirt

Loathe: cheap polyester ‘workwear’, so ill fitting black trousers, black boots or shoes and a bright or frilly top.

LunaNorth · 03/02/2021 13:50

I also love the 1940s close-fitting top and wide-leg tailored trousers look that Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall used to wear.

And loathe the Daily Mail photo shoot knee-length, primary-coloured jersey wrap dress, flesh coloured 15-denier tights and nude courts look. Puke.

MacDuffsMuff · 03/02/2021 14:25

Yep, I also love this look.

I love most styles of dresses, boho, tea, wrap, maxi, I think there's a style to suit most sizes, shapes and height. I always feel good in a dress and they're so easy to wear.

I really hate skinny jeans and trainers/converse, in my town every single woman seems to wear this with identical stripy fitted top and it's just so boring! Its like a uniform and just screams unoriginality to me.

Piranesio · 03/02/2021 14:35

Love: seventies style glamour a la Jenna Coleman in The Serpent, particularly her tailoring in the French looks. It's been my favourite for a while, the shapes and colours are really flattering on me, so I'm hoping the popularity of the show will inspire some shops in the next few months.

Hate: the insta big eyebrows, big lips, boobs out body-con style. I struggle with "sexy" style generally, I don't feel comfortable being so overt.

Smurfymurphy · 03/02/2021 14:37

Love something like jeans, high tops, top or cashmere with a black leather biker. As someone said above All Saints. Not a cheap PV one.

I hate cold shoulder tops and gladiator sandals dressed up or down with anything.

mistermagpie · 03/02/2021 14:40

I love things which are a mix like tea dress with biker boots or trainers, that kind of thing. I also love tailored shorts instead of a short skirt for dressing up, so much classier.

I really hate gym wear when you're not at the actual gym. And my absolute pet hate is outdoor-wear like a fleece and walking boots but paired with a leather handbag. My SIL does this all the time when we meet (socially distanced blah blah blah) for a walk and it looks all kinds of wrong. I can't think why you need a handbag for a walk in the woods anyway!

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 14:43

Re things I love on other people but don't suit myself; high necklines! I love them on dresses and shirts and think they always look more current somehow. But I am majassive of nork and look like a sofa in them!

Similarly, I don't really suit big wide leg trousers, but think they look great on other people.

At the minute, with not being able to try on, I keep forgetting and buying things which need to go straight back Sad.

I don't get sweaty feet in trainers in the summer Shock - how very dare you Wink. Good trainer socks are the key.

youbigchump · 03/02/2021 16:21

I love the Lux Leisure wear style, leggings, down jacket, chunky trainers, swishy pony.
I have a selection of Sweaty Betty and Lulu Lemon but on me it looks like I'm settling down for a night in front of the telly, not just nipped in from a HIT class.

Brogues · 03/02/2021 16:38

Waaaah do many people hate me Sad

I hate the insta-fake look. I also don’t like cold shoulder tops especially if worn with capri pants.

notacooldad · 03/02/2021 16:42

I look and lust over them and always talk myself out of it!
Dont talk yourself out of an All saints biker jacket! They are fabulous.
Buy it in a sale and go through Topcahback to save a few quid!!!

MrsBobDylan · 03/02/2021 16:43

I like very expensive denim.

I don't like and never wear clothes which restrict movement and are impractical.

I once saw a young woman in an off the shoulder top, micro skirt, low cut top and madly high heels. In practical terms, she couldn't lift her arms, lean forward, sit down without crossing her legs or walk more than a few steps.

Meanwhile, the man she was waiting for (presumably her boyfriend) was wearing jeans, t shirt and trainers. Madness!

Coffee4Queen · 03/02/2021 16:50

Loathe - cycling shorts worn and blazer ‘trend’

Love - long floaty 70’s dresses and has anyone watched the Australian series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries? Love love lover her clothes!!

I love; All Saints/rock chick look - leather jackets, boots, black tea dresses, black suede tasseled bags, smudgy eyeliner, tousled hair...you get the idea!

Dislike; influencer puffy lips, fake everything, trendy outfits like blazer with cycling shorts and chunky trainers.

Also dislike the patterned/floral long sleeved tent dresses which have been around for a while and a lot of the very baggy shapeless garments and "mum jeans" looks.

To OP - I think your favoured look is very classy, but it looks awful on me and seems to make my shoulders look a lot broader than they are! I can't pull if a smart or tailored look without looking like I must have borrowed someone else's clothes!

Faith50 · 03/02/2021 17:34

Love - silk shirts and slim line trousers. I like a clean look. Block colours

Hate - cold shoulder tops, above knee length dresses (on me), shapeless tent, dresses, ripped jeans, platform heels, strapless maxi dresses, outfits that are too matchy (Chic Wish),

JaceLancs · 03/02/2021 19:20

Love natural fabrics - plain or subtle patterns - classic pieces - dressing to suit your shape - edgy look if that’s fit you
Hate gym or lounging wear outside gym or home, fast throwaway fashion, anything fussy or flouncy, anything impractical eg heels you can’t walk in or nightclub attire at work

lockdownalli · 03/02/2021 19:27

On younger women I love a long dress worn with trainers. It looks so feminine yet edgy.

Oh dear - I am mid fifties and dress like this. Also wear shorter dresses or skirts with tights leather biker jacket and DMs in winter.

I hate skinny jeans with stilletos - so ageing.

Pigtailsandall · 03/02/2021 19:29

Agree with many of the points here. Just thought of my pet hate which is t-shirts and jumpers with logos of the brand - like a massive Gap logo or men's t-shirts which shout Levi's. Why? They're not even particularly great brands (not that that would make it better).
If I walk around advertising a clothing brand I think they should pay me, not vice versa.

Agree with many of the nice looks mentioned. Basically well-cut clothes which flatter the wearer will always look nice

LApprentiSorcier · 03/02/2021 19:32

Love - 90s grunge look and general rock-chick veering towards goth look.

Loathe - anything with very obvious branding or logos, including designer bags made out of the designer's logo fabric.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/02/2021 19:38

I love, love, love an androgynous look. Can't pull it off myself, as although I'm slim and quite tall, I have mahoosive boobs in proportion to the rest of me, and they ruin the line.

I'd probably agree with loathing the 1950s look too. I know loads of women who love it, but I can't honestly say it suits any of them.

To me you ARE a younger woman. I bet you look great.

@Confusedandshaken

You are very kind and generous Smile
