We used to have one of these and it was fab!

It was vaguely for size 18+, but I know a 5 foot size 16 is not the same as a 6 foot one, so don't think it needs to be strict.

Anyway, if anyone would like to join me they'd be v welcome.

FWIW, I'm a tall size 18, apple shape.

Still in my PJs Blush. Then going out for a walk / run (stating C25K again).

Oh I like that dress! I wouldn't have anywhere to wear it though as my workwear is jeans...

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 04/02/2021 17:54

@StCharlotte don't blame me! I wasn't looking at White Stuff and haven't actually ordered the black dress I was considering. So it's entirely your own fault!!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 04/02/2021 17:57

I'm very full as I think I ate too much chicken satay earlier - one of the few meals all my children eat (I make a separate no spice, no onion pan for the boys). The only moving I'm planning is upstairs to read to the boys at bedtime (I still read to DD until she suddenly started reading Animal Farm, The Handmaids Tale and then Jayne Eyre, now Emma, to herself! She somehow metamorphosised from very young for her age reading tastes to A Level/ middle aged woman overnight, not sure why or how, but shes not up for Harry Potter or Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarian or Time Travel with a Hampster any more 😝)

I did go for a short walk earlier which isn't bad after a night shift and my second covid jab this morning... yawn...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 04/02/2021 18:00

DD is currently lecturing me about hair care... She's very fpnd of her curley hair which is lovely, but she keeps telling me I'm doing having wavy hair wrong and should do what she does... Her hair is pretty but I'm too lazy...

FlyingByTheSeatof · 04/02/2021 18:09

@ParisJeTAime I'm glad you're wearing Jeggings today as I have questions about them, if that's ok. How do you find them compared to leggings and jeans?
I've just impulse bought some high waisted coated Jeggings from M&S which were 2 for £25 so I got the black and blue because there were some PJ's I wanted and needed to bump up my basket to get free delivery. I've mislaid my current comfiest PJ bottoms so I hope they arrive quickly. I just wanted something to pull on thats super comfy and goes with anything that's not leisure wear.

There were so many clothes I could have bought in the Mint Velvet Sale after looking at your trainers @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

Lovely outfit @Divebar2021

I love Paris, London and Munich. I used to work and live in London and it's always had that exciting buzz about it.

Paris well it's just gorgeous isnt it. Munich I love the traditional restaurants, food esp Knödels and the Englischer Garten and general loveliness about it. I've been many times but not for a long time.

ParisJeTAime · 04/02/2021 18:20

@FlyingByTheSeatof, I like jeggings. I find them handy for under long boots. They are thinner and a bit more comfy than skinny jeans, so they are better under long boots. But that seems to be all I wear them with really. I prefer jeans with trainers and leggings under dresses!

The coated kind, I like the look of, but have never actually tried them. Let us know how they are when they arrive please Grin!

@StCharlotte I love that dress. I have loads of shift dresses for the summer that I've collected over the years and most of them are Navy. This one look like it's a nice stiffer thicker material great for cooler days.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 04/02/2021 19:06

Will do @ParisJeTAime I have a feeling they won't hold me in much like jeans but the last few times I've worn my skinny jeans they've really annoyed me. Obviously because I've put on a bit of weight, hey ho. I hope they don't show lumps and bumps. Thats what I love about compression leggings no lumps and bumps and flexible.

I really love my comfy Mom jeans @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I bought two size 16 a couple of years ago from Tu. They are worn in so feel like joggers, only not so hot and itchy like joggers which I hate.

ParisJeTAime · 04/02/2021 19:21

There was a lot of hype about Spanx, leather look leggings a while ago. So if you like that coated look @FlyingByTheSeatof, but want more compression, they might be the thing! But they are ££ imo. I think I'd want to be sure I'd get a lot of wear out of them. Hopefully the M&S ones work out though.

I find jeggings do compress a little bit.

Well I’m back from Old London Town - it was fairly uneventful apart from the crazy person on the train shouting about some woman he’s got pregnant. I think he might be delusional on that score. When I got home I had a parcel from Monki with 6 pairs of jeans in. Sadly only 2 pairs will do up 😭. I mean buying jeans is about as bad as buying swimwear. They’re high waisted and relaxed leg and I have no clue what shoes to wear with them. I’ve abandoned skinny jeans so it’s a learning curve for me. I will try and post a photo tomorrow and perhaps you can offer some sage advice for me. I’m only keeping 1 pair... I keep telling myself.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 04/02/2021 19:57

I'm really happy with the M&S Faux leather leggings. I think the Spanx ones will probably be a step too far in that I doubt I'll be able to walk in them properly Grin

@Divebar2021 try as I may I just can't get away from skinny jeans. I have a lovely pair of black Monki Jeans with a bit of stretch that were my go to for ages till they started to wear out. Oki slim high waist they're called (just dug them out to look). I do like my Top Shop Jamie Jeans. My Uniqlo skinny jeans are just not high waisted enough so very uncomfortable. I really love my M&S high waisted black skiny jeans they just fit beautifully, they're my favourite as I always gravitate towards them. I had a Next pair of highwaisted jeans years ago I loved but they stopped making them.

I remember years ago coming back from Thailand and travelling on the tube from Heathrow with a blinding splitting headache and someone playing their god awful guitar constantly for hours. I cant remember now if I said anything or not, I was in so much pain. I slept for 3 days when I got home pretty much.

I was going through a bag of old clothes earlier today and inside were a pair of Boot cut jeans, god they look awful on now. Shows how long that's been up in the loft.

ParisJeTAime · 04/02/2021 20:12

I've just ordered the Spanx leather leggings

In my defence, I'm just curious! There was so much hype about these and I want to see if they are as good as people said. Also, there was a 20% off code at Asos.

ParisJeTAime · 04/02/2021 20:16

Omg yes, I do NOT miss the train home from London. Especially the last train home on a weekend Envy (not envy). The noise, the vomiting passengers, people passed out on the floor. Yeah, that part I do not miss! I usually stay over unless I can get an earlier train from London, (pre covid obviously).

OP posts:
FlyingByTheSeatof · 04/02/2021 21:35

Ooo @ParisJeTAime I'm kind of hoping you won't love them otherwise I just know I'm going to want to buy them too, eek. A PP earlier on the thread bought them and loved them but did say they were very tight, but I guess that's the whole point of them. Off to investigate ASOS

ParisJeTAime · 04/02/2021 21:47

I will report back! I can't remember that post, but probably read it on here that they were good and it stuck in my brain.

Ah, the last train - or as we called it "the vomit rocket"!

@FlyingByTheSeatof Yes it is a bit thicker so will see me through spring and smart enough for the office whenever I get back there.

And @AlwaysReadyForABlether the only word I could decipher in the picture of the black dress was "shift" so that was what I searched under and I was done for Grin If I succumb to the navy boots I will accept full responsibility for my actions.

ParisJeTAime · 05/02/2021 08:29

Hahaha "vomit rocket". Yep! Gross.

I'm not sure, but I think I might get my Spanx today, which would be really speedy! Will report back if and when they arrive.

OP posts:
ParisJeTAime · 05/02/2021 09:57

No Spanx today. Due to arrive tomorrow!

Here I am in:

Maxi skirt, Thought, 18
Tshirt (I'm trying a half tuck...what do you think?), 16, M&S
Black Snags

Going to wear with burgundy suede boots with little wedge, from White Stuff.

@ParisJeTAime

Very welcome tinkywinky!

Yes, my clothes tend to be quite practical at the moment too, as I don't have anywhere to go at the moment!

I'm a SAHM and I was already a bit short on places to go which needed anything other than jeans or leggings. Now, with lockdown etc, I don't go anywhere other than local walks really. So, jeggings and long boots are becoming a bit of a uniform Blush.

But, I've decided to invest in naice, practical things. Nothing £££, but things like lambswool jumpers from the Uniqlo sale and decent leather boots for walking. I'm also trying to stick to a colour palette which I know suits me, so I need fewer things, as they can mix and match a bit more, rather than having loads of different colours.

I've just ordered a big warm coat in the Lands End sale as well, which I'm looking forward to getting. It's a blue long puffy thing with a hood. Hopefully fits with the 'naice but practical' aesthetic I am aiming for!

Today I'm wearing adidas three stripe navy leggings (16-18), a long line baby blue t shirt dress thing from Asos (18) and a longline navy hoody dress thing, also Asos (18). A bit sporty today, but I don't think I'm a total scruff bag in it. Also I am planning a run later, so it has a purpose!

What a wonderful name @ParisJeTAime ❤️and what a wonderful goal - to dress nicely and practically during lockdown - Uniqlo do some lovely items. You can elevate your mood by staying more smart during these crazy times. Knowing what colours suit you is a great bonus - many people don't know or aren't sure. The right colours can really lift your look and spirits too - best of luck 😘
ParisJeTAime · 05/02/2021 10:06

Thanks @MarieAnneLecoeur Flowers.

I totally agree re clothes and colours. I feel so much better if I dress a bit better.

Excuse my carpet in last pic btw Blush. Stood on the most worn, marked bit of carpet in my house for some reason (dd's room! It has been attacked with paint, felt tip pens and mud for years).

OP posts:
MarieAnneLecoeur · 05/02/2021 10:11

A lot of people don't realise the positive effect dressing better can have on your mood @ParisJeTAime. Vogue posted an article about it recently - so they have at last caught up with me 😃don't worry about the carpet - a lived in house is a joy 😘

buckeejit · 05/02/2021 11:32

Trying to get slightly less slobbish on a Friday so out of joggers for the day. It does feel good to dress a bit better, but I desperately need a pair of high waisted jeans that aren't skinny. Not sure where is best for plus size.

Might drag children out for a short walk if it gets slightly less wet here.

Plus size chat / what are you wearing today sort of thread?
ParisJeTAime · 05/02/2021 11:37

@buckeejit, love that and I especially love your earrings!

Re the jeans, I only tend to wear high waist jeggings / skinnies. I have a big tummy - it's my problem area! I discovered a while ago that, counter intuitively, when I wear jeans which I'm not going to wear a long top / tunic over, so you might see the waistband of my jeans, mid rise are actually more flattering! But, I think, if you're a different shape, like pear shape, you may find the high moisture flattering.

Stand-by for my review of Monki high waisted jeans coming very soon. If I can get away from home schooling 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Divebar2021 · 05/02/2021 12:53

I don’t typically post pictures of myself in the mirror ( because I can’t stand seeing myself generally ) however these are the jeans choices. I don’t want to wear skinny jeans anymore but I’m not sure at the moment how to wear wider jeans...shoes being the main issues. I have 3 pairs to show you. (I ordered 6 pairs to try but the other 3 I couldn’t get on). For reference I’m a size 18 hourglass shape. First pair mid waist relaxed fit - these have stretch and are comfortable.
