We used to have one of these and it was fab!

It was vaguely for size 18+, but I know a 5 foot size 16 is not the same as a 6 foot one, so don't think it needs to be strict.

Anyway, if anyone would like to join me they'd be v welcome.

FWIW, I'm a tall size 18, apple shape.

Still in my PJs Blush. Then going out for a walk / run (stating C25K again).

How do you all work out what your colours are? This thread makes me realuse I have no idea.

I'm pale skinned in winter but I do tan fairly easily in summer... My hair was light to mid brown in my 20s-30s but is lighter now, with some very pale grey/ white. Hazel eyes - sometimes look green, sometimes brown, sometimes half and half.
Any estimates of what "season" or colour block I would be?

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 26/01/2021 09:49

Workyticket I've had three caesarean sections, the first of which was an emergency one (done fairly badly/ strangely according to the surgeon who did the second planned one), and my tummyhas an overhang too. I don't have any useful tips except high waisted things! I never tuck top layers in.

Very scientific method for me: "ooh that's a lovely colour on you" is normally how it works Grin

I did have my colours done years and years ago - can't remember what they said as I ignored most of it but I do remember agreeing that may predominantly black wardrobe didn't work any more (on the top half anyway).

DISCLAIMER: I have no idea what I'm talking about and don't really know for sure my own season.

But, could you be a soft autumn maybe? Google it and see what they say about that and see if the colours are ones you normally suit.

I've never had my colours done or anything. I just guessed based on what I've read! There was someone on here who had theirs done online. Was it @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme?

I think you should go on skin colour - whether you’re warm or cool toned. Both my sister and I are blonde but she has warm golden tones... goes golden brown in summer. I’m more pink toned... English rose my mum likes to say which is her way of comforting me for burning easily and taking ages to tan. I suit cool tones like grey & navy, olive green. Silver jewellery rather than gold. I can probably wear pastels but I don’t like them. I can wear browns with a grey hue in them rather than an orange hue if that makes sense. I do really like pink but I fear I blend in too much with it. I bought this dress from Arket last summer which is pink but I feel like a Richmond sausage in it. I’m going to try it with a jumper over it. Anyway to get back to the subject.... I’ve never had my colours done but I was told at some make up counter years ago that I had blue/red undertones. I’m no help am I?

Divebar · 26/01/2021 11:18

The “ Richmond sausage” dress. Grin

ParisJeTAime · 26/01/2021 11:30

Oh I love that @Divebar!

That's interesting that you suit cooler tones with a pink complexion, as I am pale and pink (cheers rosacea Hmm), but am more golden when I (eventually) tan. Always thought I suited warm tones better, but who knows? I could be getting it massively wrong!

I know I suit blue / aqua / teal, yellow and brown / beige... One day I will get my colours done!

Probably have to re do my whole wardrobe when they tell me I should be wearing jewel colours but hopefully not! In fact, I know not. Jewel colours are not good on me.

85% of my wardrobe is black.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 26/01/2021 11:57

I had my colours done online last week but still waiting for the results. I think one way to tell is what colour of jewellery you suit better - gold or silver. Warm tones tend to suit gold and cool tones look better with silver. Or you can be a neutral and suit both!
If you hold different colours up to your face I think you can generally tell. I know that pastels make me look washed out for example. I can wear black but need more make up to stop me looking drained - navy is much more flattering for me. I have fair skin with light freckles and medium brown hair.
Of course I could get my colour analysis results back and find out I'm totally wrong!

MustardMitt · 26/01/2021 12:01

My Mango order is finally here, so I shall try everything on and submit for approval Grin

I’ve never bought from them before so I’m a little worried on sizing. Also a little worried I’m going to end up on the ‘Suzi Quattro’s nan’ thread Grin

MustardMitt · 26/01/2021 12:28

Ok. Have tried everything on - a mixed bag I think is the best way to describe it!

As a reminder, I bought three dresses, trench coat, wide leg trews and some boots.

The good news is that the ‘choose your size’ thing on the website is excellent - everything fits, aside from the boots which I need to try with silky socks.

The bad news is that the dresses all look horrible. I think I’m too busty and large of belly to look anything other than matronly tbh. The cut on them is slightly small for my 36H boobs and so the waist line rides up to empire style which makes my boobs look very wide set - which they aren’t really.

I like the trousers a lot, but I have memories of catching pointy shoes in wide legs and falling down the stairs Grin so I shall have to be careful! The coat I really like, but I need your opinions.

Shoes are from Sargasso and Grey and I love them, but I’ll need to get a rubber sole put on as they’re fully leather and they won’t last a minute up here.

Top in this pic is my own, husband says it ‘doesn’t go’ but personally I like it.

Excuse the bad pic I have very little room between me and mirror and I was trying to cut off my double chin! Grin

(ps the coat has a belt but I slung it to the back)

ParisJeTAime · 26/01/2021 13:00

Oh no! Sorry about the dresses Mustard. That's a shame. I always love dresses with high necklines, but like you sat with yours, I end up looking martronly Sad. It's the boobs, definitely.

I also feel quite on the fence about your coat! Overall I like the style, but feel as if, for me, I would prefer a similar coat, but a bit longer. I think I might have an unhealthy obsession with things being long enough though Grin

I put a new dress on today. It was from Primark £8! A kind of ditsy floral burgundy/black/white flowers. Has a bit of frill on shoulders (normally put off cos I look like a rotund baby with some tiers. It is midi length. I must say I rather like it, although burgundy not really my colour. It is polyester (thank god not bloody viscose) and feels very soft. I am wearing it with black leggings.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 26/01/2021 15:37

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I love your giraffe shirt. I have a few similar designs. I like patterns with a dark background

@AlwaysReadyForABlether I really like the red dress on you and yes once you have shoes on etc it'll look good

I'm on my phone so can't see who else has said what etc now I'm posting

The mango coat would be too light and short for me

If the veins in your wrist are blue you are cool and if they're green you are warm re colouring

I'm dark blonde and tan easily and suit mid greens, blues, greys purple Not pastels and not red or pink or peach.

I have a tummy and always buy high waisted jeans etc. I have M&S knickers which I prefer to go under my belly. I like my tops to go past my waist but only as far as halfway down my bum.

Today I'm wearing SB green leggings, one of my 4 uniqlo Black T-shirts and a Gap grey hoodie.

Teen DC were doing my head in today home schooling. Normally they just quietly get on with it. This week feels a bit too much for us all.

I might jump on the cross trainer later with all this talk of exercise.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 26/01/2021 16:41

Can I join?? 🙋‍♀️ I love threads like this. I think it's important to see lots of fabulous and plus size women showing off their styles. I am a size 20 and I'm wearing a dress from ASOS (I'm not a jeans person as my stomach is disproportionately bigger than the rest of me) and snag tights ofcourse!

LordOfTheOnionRings · 26/01/2021 16:42

@MustardMitt I love the trench coat. I have a large bust and belly too and I find having something stretch material around the busy and loose fitting everywhere else helps.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 26/01/2021 16:42

Bust**

FlyingByTheSeatof · 26/01/2021 16:49

@LordOfTheOnionRings that dress really suits you

I actually managed 25 mins on the cross trainer. Yay hopefully I'll want to carry on more regularly again. First time my SB leggings have been used for real exercise and they stayed up and did everything they're meant to.

ParisJeTAime · 26/01/2021 17:01

Welcome @LordOfTheOnionRings Smile. I love that dress too! It's a great shape on you.

Need to do some trying on later. Might even wear a dress tomorrow!

OP posts:
UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 26/01/2021 17:29

LordOfTheOnionRings that dress looks great on you. I never look the way I expect to in dresses - I always feel they should suit me but instead they never sit right and I never feel at ease at all (except jumper dresses with leggings for days off or very casual, loose cotton summer dresses in very hot weather). Jealous!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 26/01/2021 19:11

@LordOfTheOnionRings have you ever tried the skin tone Snag tights? I've had them in black opaque before but I ordered some of the 30denier skin tone ones today. I wasn't sure of the shade - I'm hoping they're not too white.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 26/01/2021 19:56

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I feel like that in jeans, I've tried them a few times but take them off straight away...they just don't feel quite right for me. What shape are you? I think knowing your shape means you're always going to suit a certain style of dress. I can't wear anything body on or straight form because of my tum.

@AlwaysReadyForABlether I did at summer, I can't remember what the shade was called but it wasn't the lightest shade and they were okay, my legs looked a little paler than I am but not enough for anyone who wasn't really scrutinizing me to notice. I hope they're your shade!
