We used to have one of these and it was fab!

It was vaguely for size 18+, but I know a 5 foot size 16 is not the same as a 6 foot one, so don't think it needs to be strict.

Anyway, if anyone would like to join me they'd be v welcome.

FWIW, I'm a tall size 18, apple shape.

Still in my PJs Blush. Then going out for a walk / run (stating C25K again).

@AlwaysReadyForABlether
So agree regarding 'fast' fashion.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 24/01/2021 13:08

There's another thread in Style & Beauty by a poster who has got incredibly organised and has a spreadsheet of what she needs in her wardrobe then she researches the best option for her, has a set budget etc. Whilst I don't intend to reach that level I definitely want to be more mindful of what I'm buying. And if I am investing in something that is more expensive for me then it needs to be right - I want to get away from "that'll do" items that don't make me feel great.

Yes! I love that thread! Really good idea. I am trying to do similar and have massively whittled down my wardrobe. For me, it's as much about fabrics as brands, so going for real wool jumpers and cotton tshirts to go with nice bottom halves.

Hit post too soon!

...whereas, before, I would have been buying fashionable jumpers in synthetic fibres which did nothing to keep me warm and ended up looking crap after a couple of washes.

@ParisJeTAime that top is a beautiful colour

buckeejit · 24/01/2021 14:16

@AlwaysReadyForABlether I'm off to look for that thread.

I have far too many clothes & have taken over one of our box rooms as a dressing room & still have stuff everywhere in several sizes. I'm a hoarder anyway but need a way to pin down what I need & be ruthless in my cull!

I had my colours done some years ago so only buy autumnal colours for pear shapes but still have way too many. I'd like them to be folded & hang with room like insta wardrobes. I can dream!

ParisJeTAime · 24/01/2021 14:22

Thank you @AlwaysReadyForABlether! It is one of the colours which suits me quite well (I think), but you don't see it very often. Was not expensive in M&S and crucially, it is good an long!

@buckeejit, it's called something like "thanks to the style and beauty board I am achieving elegance" or something.

OP posts:
AlwaysReadyForABlether · 24/01/2021 14:45

@buckeejit I had an online colour consultation this week and I'm just waiting for the results to be sent to me. I think I know what suits me - I definitely look better in stronger colours, pastels just wash me out. It will be interesting to see if the colour consultant agrees!
I also have far too many clothes. I work in an office which is usually dress down but I still like to have smart-ish workwear. Even after lockdown though I doubt I'll be in the office more than two days per week so I can get away with having much less. So the two wardrobes that are stuffed full are going to be ruthlessly cleared out over the next few weeks!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 24/01/2021 14:51

This is me today. I am truly dreadful at taking these photos - and excuse the unmade bed!
Top from Next - size 20
Jeans are the Sienna from M&S - size 20
Black suede boots from White Stuff (to be replaced with slippers when I get back from the food shop!)

Yes, my jeans are also called Sienna (I think) from M&S!

Can I ask for your honest opinions on this skirt. I really like it and think it would a great alternative to navy trousers for work. It is definitely an investment for me so I'd need to be sure it was right. And I don't want to look like a sofa!
(Sorry I feel like I'm hogging the thread now!)

Primark grey David Bowie t shirt and navy Primark leggings, plus my clompy walking boots. Snow in West London!

ParisJeTAime · 24/01/2021 16:12

I like leather skirts blether, but they are investment pieces as you say, so you need to be really sure. That's really unhelpful, sorry. I do think that would be a good alternative to trousers at work, yes.

Yes, heavy snow here too @Deathraystare! Already starting to melt though. Thought it might hang around a bit.

@AlwaysReadyForABlether

I’ve been organising my wardrobe over the last 12 months - slow worker that I am. I’ve revived my Style Book app which will allow me to see everything laid out so to speak and play around with combinations. It also keeps track of the most worn items and cost per wear, most worn fabrics etc. The only drag is uploading the pictures.

I’ll try and screen shot if I ever put a post worthy outfit on.

I do like the leather skirt.... I thought it looked like one I was contemplating at John Lewis. I have a “ pleather” one but I think that one is more versatile.

greyinganddecaying · 24/01/2021 17:46

I really.need to do a capsule wardrobe again. It's all gone wrong during lockdown.

I'm quite boring as a don't wear skirts/dresses apart a couple of work dresses that haven't seen the light of day for a while!

I have to leave the house tomorrow- no idea what to wear!

ParisJeTAime · 24/01/2021 17:56

I've just got a couple of skirts and have just ordered three dresses.

The skirts are from Thought and the dresses are from Asos's sustainable range, (so I feel slightly less guilty buying from there).

I have been living in jeans and leggings lately, but I want some dresses. My legs are my only good best bit, so I don't want to hide them in jeans!

I actually have a spreadsheet with all of my clothes in it (inspired by the other thread, although mine doesn't have goal items, as I'm not that restrained / organised). I try to keep it to less than 50 items. Anything smaller and I get the opposite problem, where I really don't have anything suitable to wear on a given day. Before it was the classic, loads of clothes and don't want to wear any of them thing!

Divebar · 24/01/2021 18:06

Well having been on the “ dress wearing” thread on S&B I thought I’d look for some comfortable jersey dresses to wear at home for a change. I ended up with a beautiful wool / cashmere dress that I think is too nice to wear at home. Aaagh. This is the sort of thing I do... keep things for best. Mind you it’s a classic so I hope to have it for years.

Divebar · 24/01/2021 18:12

Here’s a image of it from the app - styled with a Cos coat and silver vagabond boots. I don’t even know where those boots are. I thought this might get around having to photo myself in the mirror. Grin. Note. I’m not actually wearing that now so I guess I’m cheating.

ParisJeTAime · 24/01/2021 18:42

Oh lovely @Divebar! Yes, I would do that sort of thing too! Need you lot to keep me on the straight and narrow. But that is lovely.

I thought I'd bought a few tshirts from Joanie the other day, but i can't see any confirmation email from them. I'm a mixture of relief and disappointment tbh, as I probably don't need them, but they were cute.

The dresses and skirts are definitely needed and allowed within my capsule, but the tshirts were more of a "because they're nice" purchase. Anyway, it's a mystery. Might have to check my bank statement to see if I paid them!

OP posts:
AlwaysReadyForABlether · 24/01/2021 18:54

@Divebar that looks like a fab outfit. I don't really have any dresses apart from the red one that is on its way. I've been told they should be good for my rectangular shape but they're just not something I ever think to look at it. I think because I always think of them as being dressier rather than for day wear.

ParisJeTAime · 25/01/2021 09:43

Morning all!

No picture yet, as I m wearing a rather fetching back brace to correct my posture. Seeeeexxyyyy!

Anyway, I'm in Sienna jeans (again Blush) and Uniqlo lambswool ecru jumper. Not up to much today. May walk to the supermarket and am attempting to build my new exercise bike! I did some weights yesterday, but don't think I'll do it again today, as I have a tendency to overdo weights, as I enjoy it more than cardio Grin.

Thought I'd be brave and post my first picture. Jeans are from Sure (found them in a shop a couple of months ago here in Germany, not a brand I've especially heard of otherwise) European size 46, blouse is Hush size 16, I'm wearing it under the George at Asda jumper, size XL. Socks Yuedge which is the only sock brand I wear now because dh bought me 12 pairs - good walking socks.
My DH loves my George at Asda jumpers and doesn't like my Hush purchases, I'm pondering what this says...
I wear my nice clothes at home, I don't save things for best except formal dresses bought for specific occassions, which I don't really enjoy wearing.

Blether I like the skirt but wouldn't wear a leather skirt personally, bthough I can't quite articulate why! The question is would you wear it regularly - if you would then buy it! I'd think it looked nice if I saw it. Is it dry clean only? Is that practical for your lifestyle?
