Are there any perfumes you absolutely hate?

Just that really.
Reason for asking, I ordered blind ( stupid I know) a Liz Earle perfume. Even wanting to try them, no chance of testing at the moment, so picked one that loads of reviews said was gorgeous, favourite perfume, ever, signature scent, always getting stopped & asked what it was etc. The description sounded ok. It came & I hate it, it actually makes me feel sick when I smell it, couldn’t wait to scrub it off. It’s so persistent though!

Angel, Cerruti and Chanel Chance. They have a cigarette smoky, spilt drinky pub carpet undertone to me

Sgtmajormummy · 17/12/2020 23:16

Hermès, Un Jardin sur le Toit.
It was a present and every time I tried it on I just thought “What is this mishmash of smells? Who decided it should go on sale? “

Sunflowers. What’s in the bottle and what’s on my skin are two very different things. It was demoted to toilet spray and still nobody liked it!

TheYellowOne · 17/12/2020 23:34

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and also Allure. The latter gets up my nose in ways I can't describe.
The original Gio by Armani. And Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Woman

Understandingnotignorance · 18/12/2020 00:08

Angel and alien too! I literally get a headache from other people wearing them.

tinselfest · 18/12/2020 00:17

Some of these perfume names really take me back.

Sadly I can't comment on any of the recent ones, I lost almost all my sense of smell about 5 years ago after an illness, and nowadays I can hardly smell anything. At one time I could smell someone wearing Poison from a distance of about 100 yards. That used to really make me heave.

My late DM had a bottle of Ma Griffe when I was a child, and I tried some in a duty free shop a few years ago. How can something be both liquid and so powdery at the same time?

I used to work with somebody back in the 80's who doused themselves with Dewberry from head to toe at every opportunity. Ye gods that was sickly.

tiers4fears · 18/12/2020 03:52

Tom Ford oud

BlackCakeyStuff · 18/12/2020 08:08

I don't know why people think Angel smells of chocolate. It smells of burnt toffee apples with an undertone of wet dog. I actually passed out at work once many years ago when a colleague was wearing this. I hadn't been feeling well and it just tipped me over the edge.

NorbertMeubles · 18/12/2020 08:25

Cerrutti and Joop are also 🤮🤢

DidgeDoolittle · 18/12/2020 08:54

I used to work with someone who smelt really awful. Everyone complained as she smelt unwashed. It turned out that it was Angel perfume. It was so disgusting.

Lampzade · 18/12/2020 09:01

@Superstardjs

Joop, smells dreadful and gives me an instant headache.
Absolutely agree I get massive headaches when I smell it. Vile
Roomba · 18/12/2020 09:30

I'm yet another one who despises Angel, it gives me a migraine! A colleague used to wear it and our boss had to ask her not to as so many people complained.

When I was little my mum used to wear gallons of Poison. Christ, that was overpowering! I have vivid memories of being trapped in the car with her perfume and feeling extremely nauseous on multiple occasions. She knew it made me feel sick, but she loved it and she told me that she was the adult, not me, so she wore what she liked, thank you Hmm

Jimbellselmbath · 18/12/2020 09:46

Most of these mentioned, in particular Alien and Angel. I used to work with a young girl who would go out straight from work, get pissed, get shagged and come straight in the next day in the same clothes reeking of cigs, sweat, booze, spunk and Alien Xmas Envy not envy

Also Jo Malone. I think it might just be a bit too grown up for me but yes reminds me of toilet cleaner

woodhill · 18/12/2020 10:52

Do you think it's partly because people use too much rather than a subtle spray that makes it worse.

I tend to apply perfume once a day or possibly twice if at work and feel hot & sweaty etc

Dowser · 18/12/2020 12:03

Angel and Aramis..gags

Any sickly, heavy cloying ones..like poison

Dowser · 18/12/2020 12:05

My dd hates the smell of all perfumes / aftershaves
Particularly joop
Her dh used to get some of his dd every year
It was on eBay the next day

Dowser · 18/12/2020 12:06

That should’ve read DF

onlyconnect · 18/12/2020 12:09

Don't know if they still make it but I used to have a lodger who never showered but doused herself in La Dolce Vita. Horrible. Turns my stomach to smell it. I don't like L'Amariche or Paris. Don't know if they're still made either.

AllTheDogsIveLovedBefore · 18/12/2020 12:21

Chloe Narcisse was absolutely revolting. Disgusting, My friend at university thirty years ago would wear it every day and I couldn't stand it - our friendship drifted to an end because I couldn't bear being around the smell. It was like torture.

LadyEloise · 18/12/2020 13:15

@onlyconnect - Paris - awful. Fake smell of roses.
Tresor
Opium

All banished to the Perfumes from Hell section.
Along with others I mentioned upthread

NorbertMeubles · 18/12/2020 13:53

Samsara is another one and Dolce Vita.

ohsuzannah · 18/12/2020 14:44

@ProudAuntie76

Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood smells like ladybits that need a bloody good wash but have had zolflora sprayed on them instead cos there wasn’t enough time between clients to have a shower Envy
Grin I spat out my tea reading this!
ByTheStarryNight · 18/12/2020 14:57

@Janegrey333

Light Blue is beautiful!
Agree 100% I dislike regular Alien but had a do a jet a few tears ago. The amber one and that was lovely. It was limited edition so not for sale antmore
goose1964 · 18/12/2020 15:22

I can only say I've ever hated on and it's no longer made ,It was a Norman Hartnell, might have been forever. I was given it by my boyfriend's mother when we all went to his sister for Christmas.. Most perfumes suit someone. I need a strong one as most don't last on me

baggies · 18/12/2020 15:30

@MrsSchadenfreude

Oscar de la Renta. Reminds me of a drink and drugs fuelled lost weekend I had in my youth when I ended up having a threesome with two work colleagues. Monday morning was a bit awkward.
Ooh, husband buying me this for Christmas! Xmas Blush
