General beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread

Like many others, I’m looking forward to starting my Beauty Advent Calendars on Tuesday. With no M&S calendar or thread this year, I thought it might be fun to have a general beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the calendar they are opening, whatever it is.

I suggest though we comment only on content from current or previous days, so as not to spoil the surprise for those opening one day at a time.

Nespresso today was Intenso. Not one I've tried before. Blew my head off.

Amsterdam shower foam from Rituals. One of the online exclusives that I nearly bought over the BF weekend, but reined myself in.

@52andblue Lookfantastic has several calendars left.

@52andblue
- I would strongly advise not buying from Lookfantastic. Quite a lot of people had their pre-ordered advent calendars cancelled for no reason. Also, if you have a look on social media, you will see that they taking a ridiculously long time to ship anything. If you do order an advent calendar, you haven't a hope of getting it before christmas.

Butterymuffin · 02/12/2020 16:01

Also, if Look Fantastic have any calendars left, they should be prioritising getting them to customers who ordered and paid months ago and have been let down. As well as working out where these elusive calendars have been hiding in the meantime.

They're not the Lookfantastic ones. They're all 12 day ones that are left (except for the ones wandering around the warehouse, lost).
Butterymuffin · 02/12/2020 16:12

@52andblue Kiehl's had some left last night. Beauty advent calendar.net is saying Beauty Works, Real Techniques and Revolution are reduced as of today and Decleor back in stock.

Butterymuffin · 02/12/2020 16:15

@OchonAgusOchonOC ah! That makes more sense. Still should be wary.

Glossybox reduced the Grazia 12 day calendar to 95 yesterday and that's still showing as in stock.

ohwhatamiserableyear · 02/12/2020 16:20

@Talisin

Cute little By Terry Baume De Rose lip balm in my Fenwicks this morning. Feels and smells lovely but getting the product out of the teeny jar is going to be a challege after a few days.
That was my thought when I looked at it ... bit disappointed by the size as I've been wanting to try the product line.
bigdecisionstomake · 02/12/2020 16:26

@Ohthepressure The serum in JL calendar is the Lumene Vit C serum with hyaluronic acid. It's really lovely. The cleansing balm sounds good.

@52andblue I've just bought the Roccabox calendar today to save for January. £70 with £365 worth of products apparently. There was still stock left this morning.

happytobemrsg · 02/12/2020 18:36

I’ve not used Rituals before so it’s a really nice way to be introduced to the brand.

That’s good to know Professor. I intentionally run down my current shower gels in the hope of getting a lovely one in my advent

Ochon you just reminded me to eat my popcorn! I can’t believe it was in my bag all day & I forgot to eat it. I shall eat it tonight in my white company oiled bath. Bliss.

happytobemrsg · 02/12/2020 18:37

Ooooh I didn’t realise it was limited edition babyshark. Can’t wait to use the gel myself

happytobemrsg · 02/12/2020 18:38

Definitely prefer your title Butterymuffin

XmasLockdown · 02/12/2020 20:37

I am not sure about H&B bb cream. I have fair skin and I am afraid it looks too dark in natural light. I might save it to a evening do. There was a bath bomb in bodyshop calendar and dd was happy to have it.

Themarvellousmrsm · 02/12/2020 20:47

I have the JL calendar too and very happy so far. I've just about run out of my current serum so today's was very welcome.

I love seeing what everyone else has in their calendars and am very tempted to see if there are any left anywhere for January which I find such a long and grim month

Snowplop · 02/12/2020 21:55

Amazon Day 2 is a Wunderlift 60 second wrinkle reducer. Hmm. It says it's best to keep still for 60 seconds after putting it on and suggests skin will look 5 years younger. Not sure about this one!

PalacePaper · 03/12/2020 07:06

I really love the look of the rituals calendar and the popcorn one. I might have to get two calendars next year!

I've got Holland and Barrett, today is a hyaluronic serum which looks very nice, and I've nearly run out of serum so good timing Smile Pleased so far and loving having a little surprise every day.

BookShark · 03/12/2020 07:17

Hmm, N-a-P Day 3 is not particularly inspiring either. It's a small scrunchie. Which is fine, I'll use it, but not quite the luxury gift I was hoping for!

The odd thing is, I remember looking at the contents and deliberately choosing this calendar. So there must be some good stuff in there - hopefully. But I don't want to go back and check again as that would ruin the surprise - I've successfully forgotten what I read!

Talisin · 03/12/2020 07:25

Liz Earle C&P in Fenwicks today. Not wildly exciting but somehow I’ve never tried this so it’s another win for day 3Smile

Ponks · 03/12/2020 07:27

Lumene today is a rose lip balm, just tried it and it's lovely.

One scrunchie is bit lame for net-a-porter but I hope it picks up. The value of the products was the highest of all so perhaps they needed few lighter on value days.

I don't think a Slip Silk scrunchie is particularly bad at all. I think they're quite expensive. (I'm just jealous as I've wanted one for a while!)
Retailqueenie · 03/12/2020 08:01

ASOS is another mask?!? Cicapair tiger grass calming sheet mask. Lovely but masks 2 days running is a bit Odd!

@BookShark, I also did lots of research before buying N-a-P, so it must get better. A single scrunchie is even less exciting than the day 1 and 2.

Today’s F&M is a new product to me; Le Prunier plum beauty oil. It’s also tiny, 3.7ml, but at least you only use a couple of drops a time. It’s apparently for face or hair, and a good easily absorbed non-greasy face oil, so looking forward to trying it.

I used the Oribe shampoo and conditioner last night, followed by the Oribe hair oil from one of last year’s calendars. Quite nice, but won’t be repurchasing given the ££cost.

Day 3 - rose lip balm from Lumene. I don't really use lip balms that often but it feels nice on the lips.

Estée Lauder eye cream from CEW. The box is huge so I figured it would last me the rest of my life as I usually forget to use eye cream but when I opened it, it's in a beautiful jar that is only about one third cream. Still a very decent size though (15ml).

Chamomile tea.
