General beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread

Like many others, I’m looking forward to starting my Beauty Advent Calendars on Tuesday. With no M&S calendar or thread this year, I thought it might be fun to have a general beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the calendar they are opening, whatever it is.

I suggest though we comment only on content from current or previous days, so as not to spoil the surprise for those opening one day at a time.

@Snowplop - Amazon Day 2 is a Wunderlift 60 second wrinkle reducer. Hmm. It says it's best to keep still for 60 seconds after putting it on and suggests skin will look 5 years younger. Not sure about this one!

Sounds more like instructions for an epoxy resin.....

OchonAgusOchonO · 03/12/2020 08:23

@BookShark - N-a-P definitely sounds underwhelming so far. Even if the scrunchie is expensive, it's not really a wow.

I don't know how they decide the order of products but they don't seem to put a lot of thought into that. @Retailqueenie getting masks 2 days in a row from Asos and n-e-p doing 3 meh products for the first 3 days makes no sense.

Start with something decent. Spread the underwhelming items throughout the middle with something decent either side, finish on a high and make sure similar products aren't next to one another unless you would use them together, like shampoo and conditioner.

Bumbl · 03/12/2020 09:10

I know what you mean about the two ASOS masks one day after another but they are 'different' masks - ie today's is a sheet mask... maybe I'm clutching at straws! Anyway I'm excited to try it

I know I have a silk scrunchie in one of my calendars so it must be a thing this year but lets face it it's just a hair tie at the end of the day no matter what its made of.
Todays Day 3 haul is Liz Earle C&P 15ml from JL with a cloth and from Boots No 7 their protect and perfect intense advance serum 5ml

Late to the party here but I’m on the Liberty calendar. Bit disappointed with day 1 as the aveda treatment gets awful reviews and day 3 the toner just isn’t something I’d use BUT day 2 the Venn serum AMAZING! It goes on so beautifully and is exactly the kind of ££££ mega luxury treat I wouldn’t buy solo so overall happy. Roll on tomorrow!

It's great when they provide the cloths too.
FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 09:57

I'd rather have your toner @Onekidnoclue to try than my LE C&P cleanser which I'm not that fond of. It's too heavy for me and I have to rub hard with the cloth, no wonder it always comes free with it, to get the stuff off.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 09:58

Yes @OchonAgusOchonO I'm more excited about the cloth than the cleanser that's for sure

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 10:04

@OchonAgusOchonO The EL eye cream looks good and 15ml is usually a full size. I use lip balm a lot more these days as they always come in Beauty boxes and AC. Very useful when priming lips for long lasting lipstick.

Fancy a swap? Or are swaps not allowed on here Blush I haven’t tried the LE one but know I won’t use a toner and a cleanser might suit.

@ashmts I asked for the post to be deleted, really sorry. Can you please remove the quote from your post.

MiaN · 03/12/2020 10:17

I think there were 3 or 6 scrunchies in Space NK advent last year so one feels too little

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 10:17

I would swap Onekidnoclue but DD will use my C&P plus it's only 15ml so wont last long.

MiaN · 03/12/2020 10:18

@Onekidnoclue I feel exactly same for liberty so far. Love day 2 so I don't mind day 1 and 3 too much

Good to know for lipstick. I'll give that a go.

All the items in the New beauty edit are full size. The eye cream looked like it was a jumbo size. The jar is beautiful. Much nicer than the usual tubes.

Janesandian · 03/12/2020 10:55

Molton Brown shower gel in LF today. It smells lovely. I'm not usually a huge fan of them but it will be a nice thing to use.

bigdecisionstomake · 03/12/2020 11:14

@FlyingByTheSeatof That's interesting about the Liz Earle C&P. I've not tried it before but almost bought it a couple of times. I use a wash off cleansing balm now but always use really soft bamboo cloths to wash off with and was surprised how coarse the Liz Earle cotton cloths are. Really interested to give it a go now.

afaloren · 03/12/2020 11:30

Absolutely love the Hourglass blusher in my Cult calendar this morning. I’m wearing it and it’s so pretty. Very happy!

AprilLady · 03/12/2020 11:56

@OchonAgusOchonO, that EL eye serum is one I use regularly, and 15ml will last a long time.

My favourite cleansing cloths are actually the Emma Hardie ones - they are double sided with a rougher side for exfoliating and a smoother one to finish off.

I'd better start remembering to use it themGrin I got one in the Elemis box from QVC too so I have a lot to go through.

CupboardMonster · 03/12/2020 12:49

The facial oil in F&M is lovely on my skin, slight scent of prunes and that tiny size retails at £20. Good job you don't need much of it but I won't buy it.

happytobemrsg · 03/12/2020 14:17

I can see the popcorn one being a regular occurrence here PalacePaper, it’s delicious

I hope you didn’t read the contents of lots of calendars BookShark & get mixed up! That’s totally something I’d do.

Very happy here again today.
Rituals - a sleep pillow spray. Now I know everyone complains about getting This Works spray in every calendar but this smells lovely - sacred wood & lavender
White company - a really good size skin brightening body scrub. Smells divine & I don’t currently have a scrub. I got the WC calendar because I wanted to feel pampered - so far I’ve had a candle, bath oil & body scrub so I’m very pleased. Yes it’s expand not worth lots more than what I paid which the draw for most calendars, but this is exactly what I needed after 2020
