General beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread

Like many others, I’m looking forward to starting my Beauty Advent Calendars on Tuesday. With no M&S calendar or thread this year, I thought it might be fun to have a general beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the calendar they are opening, whatever it is.

I suggest though we comment only on content from current or previous days, so as not to spoil the surprise for those opening one day at a time.

White company and Rituals seem to be winning so far @happytobemrsg I’m a bit jealous as my Liberty one cost a fortune and is very mixed so far.

OchonAgusOchonO · 03/12/2020 16:04

For those of you following the saga of my LF advent calendar, I have an update!

Not sure if I've seen @BuffaloMozzerella on this thread so I'm tagging you Smile

The bit I think is absolutely hilarious is they are now trying to blame An Post. Yes, there are delays with An Post. However, nothing I have received in the last month through them has taken more than a day or so longer than expected. An Post is the company who received my CEWUK beauty edit last thursday and had it to me by monday so I was able to make my own calendar. If LF had actually shipped the calendar on either of the dates (12/11 and 18/11) they claimed it shipped, it would have been here ages ago so to blame An Post is totally disingenuous of them. Feckers. And breathe....

Both look lovely alright. I love Rituals but don't use shower gel so that would have been wasted.

That's a shame about the Liberty. Hopefully it will pick up for you.

happytobemrsg · 03/12/2020 16:26

Onekidnoclue it was really hard to pick a calendar as I refused to look at the contents. I sort of squinted at the photos Grin

I have just had a shower using the Rituals gel from day 1 & the WC scrub & I can confirm I smell amazing

RozHuntleysStump · 03/12/2020 16:30

Last two days of items. I’m loving the White Company stuff. The Elemis is all stuff I’d use too.

The arran stuff is a bit like stuff from a hotel but that’s fine. The soap smells really nice.

My apple & cinnamon popcorn was yummy too.

Orcadianrythyms · 03/12/2020 17:00

First time buying the Liberty one after years of longing and a bit underwhelmed for now. I've always thought if I was spending that amount I'd want to be sure I got what I really wanted. This year has been so shitty I thought I'd go for it but it's not bringing the joy yet. On a positive note my JL jewellery one is really fun. Nice, wearable earrings and then add on pearls, then a plain chain. I think it's a good buy. Joe and Seph should be thanking this thread for driving sales, I have ordered a multi packGrin

BuffaloMozzerella · 03/12/2020 17:04

Hi @OchonAgusOchonO yes I'm following the thread but haven't posted yet. I've got the No7 and Rituals posh calendar with the houses which my partner surprised me with (top marks for him!).

I've just received that same update. So €45 credit eh?Grin oh well better than a kick up the bum! Bad form blaming An Post now after all their failures... Still not convinced it's going to turn up!

Please tell me they have now given you an additional €45 on top of your refund and other 'please forgive us' credit??? GrinGrin I should have used Twitter!

BuffaloMozzerella · 03/12/2020 17:06

Also, did you get a response to your query about your Black Friday freebies which went missing off your order?

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 03/12/2020 17:08

I'm very much enjoying seeing what everyone is getting in their calendars. I have H&B and really like what I've got so far. Got my eye on Rituals for next year though...

I got a Degustabox calendar as a family one to share and so far it's been great! A box of chocolate biscuits, bottle of caramel sauce and a bar of chocolate today.

Well done to your dp! That was lovely of him. I hope you're enjoying them both. They look lovely from what I've seen on here.

Yes, plus the refund. I've done pretty well out of it Grin.

I also got another €20 from them as when I went to spend the "please stop tweeting" fund, a free gift was added to the basket but somehow ended up disappearing after checkout so I emailed and was told they couldn't give me the gift (which was still available) but "here, have another £20". I didn't bother complaining that €20 is less than £20 Grin.

Did you get a refund? Or a call back? It's really crappy that they will only respond if you persevere on social media.

Can you post pics from the Degustabox calendar? I really liked the sound of it so would love to see the contents.
BuffaloMozzerella · 03/12/2020 17:25

No I didn't get a refund. They did offer me one but I didn't take it as I assumed that would mean no calendar at all and I hadn't totally given up at that stage. Gah!! Never mind though - I haven't missed it as much as I would have done if I hadn't been given the Rituals calendar.

I didn't get a response to that email address you gave me so I escalated through my account on their website and did get a response that way. They have obviously decided to give a credit to everyone who has been let down.

I wonder though if it is just Irish people affected if they are blaming An Post? I wouldn't be surprised because I would generally receive my monthly beauty box waaay after other people have received it in the UK. They are supposed to send them on the 1st - mine has never left on the 1st ever. I've cancelled it now.

There are people from the UK complaining on twitter about not getting it either, although most of those seemed to have just had their order cancelled "due to human error". There are some in the UK whose calendars were dispatched but never arrived. Seems to be mainly Irish though.

ohwhatamiserableyear · 03/12/2020 17:41

Loving this year's Lumene rose lip balm, another Moomin-branded item. I do love that they always include a Moomin themed item. Grin

Looking forward to trying the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish and accompanying flannel from my Fenwick's calendar.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 03/12/2020 17:59

@OchonAgusOchonO

Sure, here you go. The biscuits were actually the orange variety but we've scoffed those already! I happened to have a box of the plain Liebnitz anyway so have substituted with those.
They've emailed me the full contents. I have been very good and not peeked but I could forward it to you if you PM me your email address?
The box cost about £35 which is pretty good value for money judging by what we've had so far

I've never tried the orange Liebnitz but love the plain and milk chocolate ones.

No worries on the list. I'll just get your updates and think about it for next year 😁

Butterymuffin · 03/12/2020 18:34

@IToldYouIWasFreaky We also have the Degusta box one as a family calendar! Like you, I am really enjoying it so far and think it's very good value for money. We have already polished off the biscuits and will probably see off today's chocolate this evening!

@OchonAgusOchonOch DH loves the dark chocolate ones but we all liked the orange variety.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 18:36

I'm enjoying everyone's photos from various AC.

@bigdecisionstomake my skin can be quite sensitive and LE always makes it go a bit red and bumpy which may be down to the essential oils and cocoa butter.

@OchonAgusOchonO I can't believe you still don't have that bloody LF AC. So annoying.

@IToldYouIWasFreaky the Degustabox AC looks interesting.

LarsErickssong · 03/12/2020 18:36

I was thinking about ordering the Degusta box calendar but didn't in the end, regretting that decision now!

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 18:39

Maybe if they reduce the price of the Degustabox I'll get it for January.

OchonAgusOchonO · 03/12/2020 18:40

@FlyingByTheSeatof - Maybe if they reduce the price of the Degustabox I'll get it for January.

That's a good idea.

CupboardMonster · 03/12/2020 18:43

Degustabox has been great, my DH had a moment of pure happiness when he was surprised by an entire packet of chocolate biscuits Grin

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/12/2020 19:01

Now that's the kind of Christmas joy we want @CupboardMonster

LizzieMacQueen · 03/12/2020 19:06

@Orcadianrythyms

I was you last year but honestly, apart from the quite exquisite packaging which shall be re-used, you can get some money back ebaying your unwanteds after Xmas. Or swaps. I did both last year. But warning, I also spent a fortune in January stocking up on the things I'd liked. Liberty emails with their discounts are hard to resist.
