Would anyone care to join me to discuss fashion for apple shapes? What are you wearing at the minute that you find flattering?

I'm a tall apple shape, size 18ish, but wear anything from a 14 to a 20, depending on what it is. Mainly 18 though.

I've just ordered some loungewear from Hush. I don't normally go for joggers, but trying something new!

Huge you tried leather leggings and a long knitted hoody ? I'm hourglass so no experience, just thinking of the opposite of what I would wear .

Yes! I have leather look leggings from Mint Velvet. I wear them with a beautiful, dark green, knitted, cowl neck, jumper dress from Phase Eight. I'm wearing that exact outfit today in fact!

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 me 😂.. with Apple's you need to celebrate your legs but not make it look like you are unbalanced which is tricky . If you have a smaller part under your bust then fit and flare dresses , tights and boots are good . I see a lot of ladies who get it very wrong with tight jeans and short tops ( obvs they are happy but I like to see women people look their best version of themselves if possible ) ..

This Apple is all about celebrating her legs. Today I have on a short red Aline cord skirt , a black jumper which comes to hip length skimming over tum, black opaque tights and biker boots. The over sized coats which are around this year (absolutely not the puffa type) are working well to emphasise length rather than bulk.

Other than skinny jeans or trousers are there any other shapes that work for Apples?

Yes me! I'm a definite apple, even more so as I'm now menopausal. I am quite short (about 5'1ish) and a size 8 on top size 10 on the bottom. I used to really suit skinny jeans and floaty tops as my legs were my best feature. They still are good but there is a more obvious mismatch between top and bottom halves of me now and to be honest I just don't find anything tight comfortable - I'm ok with jeggings but don't like sitting down all day in them as I'm WFH and my chair isn't as good as my office chair.

What suits me now is dresses with leggings and boots. I know some some people hate that combination but it looks good on me. The dresses skim the tummy and show off what I like about me. Skater dresses are great for me.

I also have just rediscovered wearing a kind sleeved t shirt under a shirt and I like that look. I can't do up the shirt as I need a size 8 to fit my top half so it doesn't fasten well around my hips!

I'm also a magpie so love anything sparkly and I've taken to wearing my sparkly tops more often instead of keeping them for going out.

I wear girlfriend jeans more than skinnies these days. They would actually now be my preferred cut! Mine are all from Gap and Sainsbury's. I manage to size down (to a 16) in both places.

I also have a really oversized Asos Tall khaki coat with a draw string which sits at a good part of my waist. Totally agree they are a good thing for apples these days!

I cannot wear short tops. Fair play to anyone who can! My tummy needs forgiving tops in longer lengths.

I'm a very short apple with teeny tiny hips compared to my waist.

I wear padded bras to ensure all dresses skim over my belly... short straight dresses to enjoy my fabulous legs.

Now I am wfh I have a pair of thick joggers as they're warmer than pjs 😂

Slim/skinny jeans and tops or jumpers that hit the right length across my legs/hips. V necks definitely for flattering.

Being so short is a complete pain as very hard to find anything that fits and looks good

I’m the same and go for long layers with skinny jeans/jeggings and a long line vest underneath. Always looking for longer but lightweight layers to go over the top. Remember looking so lumpy in boot cut jeans and shorter tops when that was all you could buy. Have a light cashmere cowl neck and slim sequin skirt that I may be brave enough to try around Xmas. Love most things from hush and think they’re great for a talk apple. Where is your green jumper from?

It's from Phase Eight @LucyLatimer. I got it in a John Lewis sale a few weeks ago / maybe a month ago. It was reduced from £100ish to £30ish, but I was hunting for it to tell the poster who was asking about jumper dresses on here and couldn't find the exact one. Will have another look.

It looks more cowly on me than it does the model. I don't usually wear high necks as I'm v booby, but this seems to work.

I like Uniqlo leggings trousers as they have a very generous waist, usually if trousers are a good fit on my waist they look like jodhpurs on my hips but these don’t have acres of left over hip fabric. They are four way stretch so I don’t need to do a hitch up after bending down.

I’m fond of Snag tights if I’m wearing a dress, they don’t roll at the waist or sag at the crotch.

@TotalBitch ooh I like it, I sound a very similar size and shape to you, think a 14 would be worth trying?

Mine is an 18, but it is loose fitting. I could definitely get away with a 16 in it, but I don't think they had any 16 when I bought mine.

Give a 14 a go Lucy, if you're between sizes. I do think it comes up slightly bigger.

I also love Uniqlo. I like their jeggings and some of their knitwear.

HI All, this is me. I was on the Summer thread too. I am fine when it comes to Spring and Summer dressing (when it is warm).

But I come all a-cropper when it comes to Winter. It used to be easy with skinny jeans, boot and an a-line long jumper. But as I got older I found skinny jeans no longer fit - I too find that anything that fits my waist makes my thighs look like sausages!!! So I am trying to find a new "look" as I love a uniform style so I can just wear that and not have to think about it.

To-day (see the What are you wearing thread) I am wearing a longish (although I would have preferred it longer) sweater and straight leg jeans, turned up at the ankle to show off my skinny ankles, with Stan Smith Trainers.

However, on a wet day (most Winter days here are wet) I am at a loss as to what footwear to put with straight leg jeans, so I stick on a pair of skinny jeans (which I hate) or leggings to go with wellies or hiking boots - if you guys have a better idea, please let me know. Straight leg jeans don't go with the wellies but I would invest in something that went with straight leg jeans if it meant I could wear them all winter.

I sometimes wear GF jeans turned up over hiking boots. I do tend to leave a bit of bare leg, but obviously, when it's really cold that will be a bit horrible. Cold rain on my ankles! No ta. My GF jeans would probably tuck into wellies no problem as well and less clinging than skinnies.

Thinking, maybe opaque tights, dresses and ankle boots might be another option.

I’m a 5ft 2 apple with 34H boobs but no bum, hips and skinny legs. My go to outfits for work are wrap dresses with a camisole underneath and ankle or knee high boots with block heel. I’ve just discovered high waisted jeans which are great for flattening stomach ( m and s ones are great). I also wear mini skirts but find top halves trickier. I’m a 14 but really 16 top and 10/12 bottom. I wish I could wear dungarees but look like an Oompa Loompa.

@Musmerian I look awful in wrap dresses literally look 6 months pregnant... my tummy is my largest dress size hence being an apple.

You don't sound like an apple more a vase shape?

I also find wrap dresses draw attention to my round tummy. I've recently lost a stone and I am now a 10/12 but my stomach area is still an issue. Any jeans without stretch cut me in two when I sit down and I budge over the top. I wear a lot of opaque black tights this time of year, with short cord or tartan skirts and long sleeved top tucked in.

I can't wear tights around my tummy it's too painful, I have to fold them over and wear them under the belly bump

I'm an apple without good legs. I have ancient empire waist M&S dresses that are just above the knee that I wear for work. For casual wear, I have nothing I look good in. I'm going to try eShakti again because I got a couple of bits from them 2 years ago that worked.

I'm a petite small frame apple with small boobs and no bum at all. Alllll weight goes to my midsection (and face) so I have love handles and a belly that looks pregnant half the time. I've a very short torso compared to my long legs and I've put on a few kg in the last year or so and it's getting harder to hide belly. Skinnies used to be my go-to but they aren't really in any more, I'd love a perfect pair of tapered or mom jeans but they just don't seem to suit me as they hide my slim legs! I used to love a-line mini skirts with polo necks but now because of said weight gain they make me look frumpy and dumpy. I'm stuck in an endless cycle of jumpers and old skinny jeans with trainers. Help me out of this rut! I'm only in my early thirties!

Ugh, yes, I have gained weight this year. Although, I feel like my outfit today is too big, so either I've stretched them in the wash or I've lost some weight. I am choosing to believe it is the latter!

I definitely think, the adjustment is the problem when I gain a bit of weight. Once I find my groove fashion wise, accommodating the new weight, I feel so much better. I don't know if it's an apple thing, but I I definitely feel like I suit some things some weeks and then a week later they just don't look right and I feel like things are digging into my tummy etc... Maybe it's because my weight is mainly on my torso, so any bloating makes that a lot worse?

@TotalBitch yes exactly this! Even at my slimmest there's outfits I couldn't wear on certain days if I was bloated because they just looked awful and didn't sit right, but a couple of days later they'd look great.

Admittedly I've put on 5kg and this is over almost 2 years so it's not sudden, but this makes a massive difference to my petite frame, I've definitely lost muscle and tone as well. Because of lockdown and not having to dress up so much, part of me doesn't care, but on the rare occasion I have needed to actually put on decent clothes my belly depresses me so much!
