Would anyone care to join me to discuss fashion for apple shapes? What are you wearing at the minute that you find flattering?

I'm a tall apple shape, size 18ish, but wear anything from a 14 to a 20, depending on what it is. Mainly 18 though.

I've just ordered some loungewear from Hush. I don't normally go for joggers, but trying something new!

Hello can I join? I have always though I was an Apple but reading these posts I'm now not so sure! I have a thick waist, all my weight goes on my stomach and I have relatively ok legs .. however I also have wide hips and narrow shoulders. Maybe I'm a rectangle .. or a spoon?!?
In any case dressing has always been difficult - I tend to go for smock style dresses & tshirts with leggings & longer length cardigans. I would love to be able to tuck in my tops and wear a belt. I find winter dressing easy .. but I live in a hot climate and summer dressing an apple is so hard! I wear shorts and a vest a lot as it's easy but feel so frumpy. This isn't helped by the fact I'm a good 10kg over my ideal weight ...

@Zebracat knickers my pet hate! Bikinis fall down on me as I have no bum compared to my tummy anyway. In summer I just don’t bother with knickers at all but this is not an option in colder weather 🥶 I don’t wear tights I wear either leggings or thick stockings and industrial type suspender belt that covers tummy and pulls it in a bit.

I am apple shaped but now wondering about that. Ok big boobs, large apron tum, my legs are not great. Cannot wear skinny jeans or I look like a couple of 'banger' sausages have burst their skin. Also cannot wear wrap dresses - look like I have swallowed a sofa when I wear them.

Tend to wear tunics or t shirts with leggings. However most t's are too short and my jeans fall down over tum as t shirt rides up. Not a good look!

@Giftwithpurchase I wear empire line dresses in summer, similar to this one, low neck so it draws attention away from tummy and towards boobs instead! I find this style covers tummy a bit. Usually wear a maxi dress as I can’t be bothered with fake tan and my legs are really pale but any length would work I guess.

@CrazyBatLady66 thank you - I like the shape of that dress & also like that it has wide shoulder straps, I also don't like my arms so a skinny strap really doesn't work for me. I agree with the deep v or scooped neck - I have some great linen tees with a deep v which (I think) are flattering. I just need to find some similar dresses in a cotton/linen blend. I find natural fabrics are so important in the heat. Reason I tend to stay away from dresses is I get chub rub in them so have to wear some kind of shortunder them which makes them hotter! But maybe I need to revisit. Gah I long for mild weather dressing - I think that's why ppl in the U.K. tend to look really put together - it's just almost impossible in 40 degree heat!!!

CrazyBatLady66 · 23/01/2021 13:31

@Giftwithpurchase omg 40 degrees I couldn’t cope! I don’t particularly like my arms as although they are fairly slim I’ve got loose skin now (bingo wings!) but I just think sod it especially in the summer as I hate being too hot. I’ve got little shrug things to wear over top if I was going anywhere special(hardly ever!) but think that would be too much in heat like that. I got a couple of nice dresses from Holy Clothing, they might not be everyone’s cup of tea though but I’m a bit of an old hippie 😀

Giftwithpurchase · 24/01/2021 00:29

@CrazyBatLady66 I'm partial to hippy styles too - I love free people .. it's almost impossible to dress in the summer heat here & especially hard when you have a body shape like mine! I'm going to spend some time on Pinterest looking for outfits which might work & try & track down some dresses Smile

Has anyone tried maternity clothes? They are perfectly shaped for Apples - especially the jeans issue!

IMHO Straight leg jeans for Apple Shaped ladies are much better for your shape than skinnies, joggers and leggings or anything else that is tight to the leg.
