How often do you brush your hair in a day?

I have long hair (down to my lower back) and yesterday I realised that until going to bed last night, I had only brushed it once, while getting dressed (I WFH) in the morning. Hair of course gets dirty, like everything else, and I usually brush it a few times a day (mostly when I go for a pee) as that also makes it more presentable if I need to pop out.

So that got me wondering what others do - how often do you brush your hair? And is it long or short?

Short wavy/curly hair. Haven't brushed, or combed, it in years, and wash once or twice a week.

Mermaidwaves · 22/11/2020 09:35

My hair is wavy and bra strap length. I only brush it after I've washed it in the morning as I like it to dry naturally and look wavy and tousled. If I brush it afters its dryed it goes big and frizzy and loses the natural wave.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 22/11/2020 09:46

I have mid length (below my shoulders but not as far as my bra strap) , thick hair. Currently I brush it in the morning, tie it up or put on a hairband and that’s it until the next day. Pre CoVid I would have brushed it again before going out and also brushed it to restyle it when I reached my destination but since I haven’t left the house since November 3rd the need hasn’t arisen! I’m also only washing it once a week now whereas before it was more like every 5 days.

Once a day now I'm WFH. Its made me realise how often I used to brush it when I was working in an office - it can't be good for hair to be overly brushed, can it?

MiddleOfThePack · 22/11/2020 10:46

Thick wavy hair down to bottom of my shoulder blades at the back. Brush every morning and again after I've had a post run shower so every other day it gets brushed twice. That said if I don't brush it post shower it goes wild and curly which DH likes but I think looks a bit 80s.

Beautiful3 · 22/11/2020 11:05

I brush mine in the morning then again at lunchtime if I'm popping out again.

supadupapupascupa · 22/11/2020 11:09

Never. It's naturally curly, washed in conditioner once maybe twice per week and the knots and hair come out then.

DuchessMinnie · 22/11/2020 22:07

In rush mine probably 5 times a day. First thing in the morning, when I arrive at work as the walk from the station can be wet and windy. At least once during the day, then after my evening shower and again before going to bed. Very envious of anyone who doesn't need to do this!

DuchessMinnie · 22/11/2020 22:08

I brush obvs not whatever my fat fingers typed...

WinWinnieTheWay · 22/11/2020 22:09

Whenever I catch myself in the mirror and think "fizz".

fruitpastille · 22/11/2020 23:06

I brush mine daily when I'm getting up and dressed in the morning. I usually run the straighteners over it a bit which helps keep it neat through the day. Then I have the daily chore of brushing my younger dds hair and reminding the older ones! We all have fairly straight, medium thick hair. I would do it again if going out in the evening.

Whitney168 · 22/11/2020 23:08

@ArranBound

I only brush mine when I wash it. Other than that, I just run my fingers through it to help give it texture. I don't like the ironed straight look.

I have a long bob, an inch or two past my collar bone, and wash it every 3 or 4 days.

This, almost exactly (except sometimes I just use my fingers when I dry it too🤣).

Chin length grey hair. Honestly looks worse if I brush it.

Jobseeker19 · 22/11/2020 23:11

Curly hair gets better a few days after it has been washed and brushed. I love watching my daughters hair form more coils and curls. All it needs is some hair grease and water and maybe finger comb.

MichelleofzeResistance · 23/11/2020 21:55

Dying of envy with all the curly and wavy people here.... I look like I've been pulled through a hedge backwards by the time I've put the brush away. Brushed once in the morning when I put it up, enough laquer to bounce a farmhouse off keep it fairly tidy at the front, quick comb through the back whenever I pass a mirror and flinch throughout the day, thorough brush when I take it down in the evening.

WunWun · 24/11/2020 10:38

@MichelleofzeResistance So your hair isn't curly, wavy or straight? What is it then Grin

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/11/2020 10:48

WunWun an ongoing mess? Grin It's straight. Just not the nice, flat, organised kind of straight.

AlwaysLatte · 24/11/2020 10:58

Once - every morning with a wide tooth comb in the shower on conditioned hair. It's very curly so just goes frizzy if I brush it dry.

Pineappleheart · 28/11/2020 19:29

Emmmmmmm two or three times a week? 😳

FredtheFerret · 28/11/2020 19:43

I never brush my hair. It's curly and fairly short so I just run my fingers through it when it's wet and scrunch it up slightly then leave alone.

fitzbilly · 28/11/2020 19:47

Never.

DianeChambers · 28/11/2020 19:50

Im another curly who never brushes!

Thegingerpig · 28/11/2020 19:54

I never brush my hair. Got very tight ringlety hair, would be just a huge frizzy mess if I brushed. Just comb through in the shower when it’s got conditioner in it.

Shortsinwinter · 28/11/2020 19:56

Honestly I only brush it about 3 times a week when I've washed it. The other days its dry shampoo & run my fingers through it.

Joeyandpacey · 28/11/2020 20:20

There are so many different hair types though. I brushed my hair as a kid as my mum had no idea how to care for curly hair. Now I don’t own a brush and just de tangle in the shower once or twice a week. It looks much better!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/11/2020 20:25

Never.
I don’t own a comb or hair brush.
I have short hair and just finger dry it, texturise with some product, and that’s it.
