How often do you brush your hair in a day?

I have long hair (down to my lower back) and yesterday I realised that until going to bed last night, I had only brushed it once, while getting dressed (I WFH) in the morning. Hair of course gets dirty, like everything else, and I usually brush it a few times a day (mostly when I go for a pee) as that also makes it more presentable if I need to pop out.

So that got me wondering what others do - how often do you brush your hair? And is it long or short?

I only brush my hair once a day of I'm going out to work but other than that I don't bother, my hairs down to my hips but it's also fine and smooth so doesn't tangle a lot

Oly4 · 21/11/2020 11:35

Once

Iheartmysmart · 21/11/2020 11:39

I have v short hair and don’t own a hairbrush or comb. Wash, leave to dry while putting on my makeup, bit of wax and I’m done.

Alonelonelyloner · 21/11/2020 11:40

I have long, thick hair and probably once a week at most.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 21/11/2020 11:40

Once first thing, maybe again if I go out in the evening. Sometimes just run fingers through it instead, it's wavy and just below shoulder length.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 21/11/2020 11:42

I only brush mine if I'm going somewhere. Yesterday was the first time for about 3 months. I just run my fingers through it after a shower in the morning.

LindaEllen · 21/11/2020 11:42

God I feel like a scruffy bitch here.
I wash my hair every evening when I have a shower, and then leave it to dry (no brushing at that point).

I will then only brush my hair if I'm leaving the house for some reason, which isn't that often at the moment. So sometimes I can go for a week without brushing it!!

In fairness, mine is very long and very straight, so it's not like anyone can really tell the difference of whether I do or not.

Oldraver · 21/11/2020 11:47

Very rarely. I give it a good brush just before I wash it as I find it helps with tangles , then usually don't bother

KatyaZamolodchikova · 21/11/2020 11:54

Yep, I brush it before I shower if I’m washing it and use a wide toothed comb in the shower with conditioner on. My hair is thick and wavey so I don’t brush at all inbetween washes and I also only wash it a couple of times a week.

Thirdlifecrisis · 21/11/2020 11:55

I can go weeks without brushing mine. It's hip length and I wash it twice a week and run my fingers through to get rid of tangles. It's usually plaited though so that keeps it from getting tangled.

villamariavintrapp · 21/11/2020 11:57

Twice a week.. ish. When I wash it basically

GreyishDays · 21/11/2020 11:57

Once in the morning if I remember. It’s quite long and thick and well behaved though, if I’ve blowdried it, which I usually have.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 21/11/2020 11:58

In the morning when I’m getting ready. Plus maybe an additional time if I’m going out or catch sight of myself in the mirror and it looks particularly unkempt!

I also brush it before washing, so perhaps an extra 3x per week. And I dry it using a brush so I guess that counts too? I’m surprised by all the people saying they don’t brush their every day (unless it’s really short)

userxx · 21/11/2020 11:59

Since March probably once a week 🤷‍♂️

Roominmyhouse · 21/11/2020 12:02

I have fine just below shoulder hair. I wash and blow dry it every day so that’s when it gets brushed. After that I don’t brush it again unless I’m putting it up to do exercise or if I’m going out out.

CoronaBollox · 21/11/2020 12:05

Probably twice a day if it's down, more if I am heading out. If I've given up on life and slapped it up in a bun, then I could easily go a few days without brushing, until next time I wash it. I try to avoid putting it up though as trying to brush it after is a nightmare, that's why I wait until I wash it. Who knew hair brushing could be so complex.

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2020 12:05

Once in the morning and then before bed. That’s all.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 21/11/2020 12:07

Well, I'm nothing like the rest of you.

I have long (past my bra strap, midway down my back) straightish but flyaway hair. It looks fine, but it is very thick. There's loads of hair! It gets very knotty. When I wash it I can wear it down, but I have to brush it multiple times a day to keep it in check (looks a mess if not!) and to stop the build up of knots.
I wear it up for work in a pony tail, and on the non wash days. I sometimes have to re-do it during the day. I often have to fix my fringe by brushing and re-spraying.
I brush before bed too as it won't get the brush through the next day if not.

My hair looks lovely when brushed. But my god it is a total dick to manage.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 21/11/2020 12:08

I have thick curly hair which I wash about twice a week. I sometimes brush it in the shower while I'm washing it but that's it. If it looks unruly in the meantime I wet it a bit and try to rearrange it by hand.

ReefTeeth · 21/11/2020 12:08

Me too! Wash it twice a week and that's when it gets brushed.

But I have dead straight, just below shoulder length, hair that never knots.

dudsville · 21/11/2020 12:11

Like some others, i only tend to brush it when I wash it. I do also brush it if I've done something unusual, like a very windy walk where I didn't put my hair up in advance.

DontCryForMeNextdoorNeighbour · 21/11/2020 12:12

Sometimes i only brush mine once a week! Esp in lockdown. But normally, once or twice a day, morning and before bed.

QueenPaws · 21/11/2020 12:14

Curly hair so never!

RuthW · 21/11/2020 12:16

Never. It gets combed when washed to get any tangles out and parting put in.

crimsonlake · 21/11/2020 12:21

I am clearly the odd one out here.
I have always brushed my hair a lot, several times a day at least.
